  1. I saw that. I linked it to my class website so the students can read it. Many of them think pyschology in not applicable to real life. I love finding articles that describe the connection between behavior and diet, environment, etc.
  2. She looks similar to the mare I recently sold (and miss like nothin' else). Bays are beautiful. Good tarp work.
  3. I typed in Depeche Mode and this baby is cranking out the best New Wave songs from the 80's (and not necessarily all of the popular ones, either. There are some awesome B sides.) Erasure Depeche Mode Soft Cell New Order Simple Minds Duran Duran I am lovin' it. Except what's up with Billy Idol all of a sudden? Who skipped it and now The Cure is on.:001_smile:
  4. Yes, indenting paragraphs is still a requirement for MLA and APA.
  5. This is what I was thinking, which is really funny because with most things I tend to be pessimistic (or at least tend to be realistic; nothing is perfect, right?). But with homeschool curric. I find what I like, buy it and that's about it. The only book I have been unhappy with was Stobaugh and I did not have a back up plan for that. And I don't think you sound like a jerk at all. You must be having a good morning!
  6. With the state of IL looking at ways to increase income they might begin enforcing these laws. I can see it now. IL State troopers patroling the neighborhoods looking for remnants of birds and illegal turtle tranpsortion. Heck, they could have fined me twice this week.:001_smile:
  7. Me, too, but my hair never grew back. I can't get it longer than my shoulder blades and the longer it gets the curlier it becomes so it looks short anyway.
  8. You do look like your avatar! I love your smile (and knowing what you look like). :D
  9. BTDT. Do you have epsom salts? An epsom salt cocktail works. It doesn't taste good but if you can tolerate enough of it you should be going in no time at all.
  10. Am I breaking the law then when I clean up the carnage from the next door neighbor's dog eating a cardinal?
  11. When I started MCT I didn't have a backup. As a matter of fact I never had a backup plan for anything. But that was before I came here. Had I known then what I know now -- I still wouldn't have a backup plan. Real helpful, aren't I?
  12. Here in IL you may not possess anything from a bird of prey. Severe fines and penalties.
  13. You'll cut you own hair but run from spiders? Which is scarier?
  14. I have already registered for one tournament and am looking to see which others I can go to. With one car for the family it will be a stretch but I am trying to make it work. BTW - this is in response to Peela's wonderful post to my responsible/irresponsible thread. I do not foresee myself running off to walk the Andes any time soon but I can play a tournament in Chicago!
  15. What is your pack's summer camp like? For our district Cub Scout camp is a day camp only; no overnight camping at all. It is run by the District and volunteers. Multiple packs attend; there are usually 150+ boys at Cub Day Camp. The boys meet early in the morning as a pack and carpool to the camp. At the end of the day (around 4 pm) they carpool back to the meeting area and go home. Camp lasts 5 days (Mon - Fri). Friday afternoon is Family Day. FD is when the parents go for a big water balloon fight, see the different areas of camp and attend a short program. It usually costs about $100 for the week. DS's Boy SCout Troop is volunteering as Camp mentors this year. They will not be leading any of the activities but will assist the boys as necessary. --- Boy Scout camp is much different. It begins on Sunday and runs through Saturday morning. It is all overnight camping with Family Day on Friday night. FD is when they hold the Arrow of light ceremony.
  16. That is so cute! Better than playing in the litter box.
  17. So - do you look like your avatar? Way to go, Newlifemom. Take the bull by the horns... or the scissor by the handle. You are in control!
  18. I have done that in the past! The best one was when we lived in Southern CO. DH and I were driving down some back highway and these black things were scurrying across the road. DH and I whipped around to see what they were. We were thinking some kind of lizard migration or something. Migration was right but they were tarantulas. DH caught two of them and we watched the rest cross the road. It was the wildest thing I have ever seen. FYI - we released them after we looked at them.
  19. Just an FYI - switching packs is not going to fix the camping issue. Summer camp is a district event and all area packs are in attendance. Finding a new pack may give you some peace about how meetings are run and allow you to find a place that is more your speed. Can you start a homeschool pack in your area?
  20. With the $150 charge I believe this is a district day camp. Caraway - call the Council and discuss this with your District Executive. The DE needs to know how things are being handled and will advocate for you. The BSA doesn't want to lose scouts because of something like this. As a new parent you are probably experiencing a little shell shock. Joining scouts at the end of a year is never a good thing; things tend to be chaotic. This is why our district usually holds round ups in the early Spring or the Fall. Please don't make your decision about the scouting program based upon this one experience. Cub Scouts is a fun program. Boy Scouts is even better. There are going to be good things and bad things about both, just like all things that involve volunteers, parents and kids (our local AWANA program has serious issues; and dare I mention Little League). I still stand by what I said earlier - your DH should put on his cargo shorts and a t-shirt and take your son to camp.
  21. Do I get a badge? Is there a secret handshake?:001_smile:
