  1. DD is getting a new television, makeup and clothes DS is getting a new iPod, clothes, and a boxed book set.
  2. https://www.thenation.com/article/north-carolina-republicans-tried-to-disenfranchise-a-100-year-old-african-american-woman/ I just can't even. :svengo:
  3. You could white wash the wood walls and go for more of a shabby chic look
  4. Slingtv....we pay $25/mo for almost all the channels we watched on a regular basis on satellite. For $45/mo total (Sling, Hulu, Netflix)...we have all the tv we could ever want at just over 1/2 what it would cost us with a cable/satellite provider for the channels we want to watch.
  5. That's really interesting. DD received her Dtap in 2012 for school and 6 months later caught Pertussis from another girl (also vaccinated) on her basketball team in our homeschool group. DH, DS (asthmatic), and myself (asthmatic) were all due or near due for boosters and none of us caught it. I thought it was really strange at the time.
  6. Having worked in acute care Geriatrics for 4 years, I fully believe older people with medical conditions, Alzheimer's, etc stop eating or drinking as a function to the biological process of death. It's extremely natural and I watched it over and over with end stage patients. To ME, providing hydration/nutrition is almost cruel when a person is end stage because you are prolonging any suffering they may have in the process of dying. Very rarely does it do any good also. It makes me sad that we can euthanize an animal to end it's suffering, but it is almost viewed as you must prolong a human's life no matter the cost to the patient. So no, I don't consider a DNR to be assisted suicide. It's allowing death to happen when it is supposed to happen.
  7. I had one that Melatonin caused bad dreams also. The only thing that ever worked to get him to fall asleep was prescribed Periactin. We could adjust the dose up & down as need (we would start high and wean down). Usually after about 2 weeks, his sleep would straighten out. BUT...anytime there was a season or time change, we had issues again. Now he's 14 and I gave up. I think he goes to sleep around 12-1 a.m. and gets up around 9 a.m. usually. Sometimes he sleeps much later.
  8. We are buying DD16 2010-2012 Ford Mustang because it will just be a car for the teens to drive.....then once they buy their own, DH is planning on dropping in a bigger motor, etc for himself to have a fun car.
  9. Yes, I do on occasion . My 16 y/o DD actually likes it because it holds her AND her friends accountable. She is very open to them that her mom checks her social media, etc so she feels it helps protect HER from people being inappropriate.
  10. No, we don't get it. The only years I have ever had the flu were the years I had the flu shot also. Not from the shot. 2-3 months AFTER the shot. Both were times I worked for health systems that mandated immunization as a work requirement. The first time, I ended up with double pneumonia and a 105 temperature after an adverse reaction to Tamiflu. The 2nd time was work mandated and I got the flu from my kids who also didn't receive the vaccine. Oddly enough, that's the only time they have ever had the flu also. DD made it through a giant public school outbreak of H1N1 without catching it by having her own hand sanitizer and taking disposable water bottles to use instead of water fountains. Last year I had a mandated vaccine again or have to wear a mask for flu season at the hospital. I opted for the mask (which I never actually wore), took care of multiple flu patients, and didn't get sick at all.
  11. DD wants a platform bed. Low profile as she prefers to sleep on the floor. We plan on getting a memory foam mattress. Have one you can recommend that you love? She likes contemporary designs.
  12. My day today (37 yr old Mom to teens), 5'0, 125 lbs: 6:30 a.m.- Woke up to get older teen out the door for colorguard practice. 7:00 a.m.- 2 mile run in workout clothes 7:45 a.m.- Shower and change into CLEAN workout clothes 8:30 a.m.- pick up 10 yr old niece who is out of school for the day 9:00-11 a.m.- Housework, Homeschooling, College Classes 11:00 a.m.- Took said niece to park and walked around Pokemon hunting for THREE hours 2:00 p.m.- More housework 3:30 p.m.- walk niece to school to watch DD's afternoon colorguard practice 4:30 p.m.- drive niece back to her mom's 5:00 p.m.- picked up dinner 6:00 p.m.- walked son to school for bike riding lessons and chased him around the parking lot (running) for a solid hour 7:00 p.m.------need another shower Almost my entire day consists of a workout. Why in the world wouldn't I wear appropriate clothing? PS............my legs are screaming
  13. Cloth postpartum pads might help (I say postpartum for capacity). I'm not to THAT point yet, but getting close and cloth pads completely have changed mine & DD's lives. DD went from 7-10 days of heavy period in bed with cramps so bad she was vomiting to 5ish days of light-moderate period. I went from 5 days (3 heavy, 2 light) to 1 heavy, 2-3 spotting. Really. They are awesome.
  14. I drive a 7 seater with a 4 person all adult sized family and sometimes IT isn't big enough! LOL! At least 50% of the time I have at least 1 extra teenager with us or another younger family member! So I vote for crazy!
  15. I pay the kids to do housework. They are 16 and 14. We are too busy for them to get real jobs beyond babysitting and mowing lawns and I'd rather they focus on school work. I work and am also a college student so I don't have a lot of extra time for housekeeping. So they each get $15/week to keep up with the housework. If I wasn't paying them, I'd be paying a housekeeper MORE to come in once a week. It works for us. They get regular spending money beyond what they earn & save outside the home and I get a clean house.
  16. I'm thinking most towns/cities are probably going to tell you no, that you cannot tell someone they can't smoke on the sidewalk in front of your house. If you can't prohibit someone from walking on the sidewalk, you probably cannot prohibit any other legal activity that takes place there.
  17. Under 100 lbs probably needs a 0 or below. You won't find that it misses at all. I'm only 5'0. When I weighed 95 lbs, I wore a 12 girls slim. I couldn't wear juniors until after baby #2 at 105 lbs and that was a size 1. Now at 120, I still wear a 5 juniors. At 100ish lbs, size 2 old navy swims on me. DD is 5'5 and wears a size 3 in juniors at 119 lbs.
  18. You can find plenty of modest Junior's clothes. Misses more than likely won't fit right due to the fact that misses are cut wider for matronly hips, etc. I'm 37 and still wear juniors because the shape of Misses just doesn't fit right. Aeropostale carries great plainer tshirts and their jeans hold up very well and have resale value & if you catch them on sale, they are reasonably priced. We also love Rue 21. There are tons of cheaper clothes (great for outgrowing rapidly) that are modest. You just have to look. I can't imagine putting a 10 yr old in Misses styles either. To me, that would look even more mature than juniors clothing.
  19. Go the bedbugger.com forums. You can dust the baseboards with Diatomaceous Earth and make some DIY bed bug traps to put under the legs of the beds. If they just hatched, you more than likely caught them early. Keep sleeping in the same room as the bugs were so that you can make sure they don't spread throughout the house looking for food.
  20. RIght now, I'm trying out 5dinners1hour.com We're using the sample plans right now but I will be subscribing to the Prime Plan. So far, the food is all REALLY good and it really does only take an hour of prep for all 5 dinners.
  21. It needs at least 2 gb of RAM or it won't download at all I discovered. DH and I had to trade phones so DS could play on mine because I'm the one with a data plan but my phone didn't have enough RAM.
  22. I'm gonna be honest and say you need to make food a non-issue because if you are locking food in a safe, it is a VERY big issue. Food is food and if one is hungry, they should eat. We don't even have set meal times. There is food in the kitchen and you eat when you are hungry. I cook one very big dinner each night and the leftovers go in the fridge for anyone to eat when they want. We only keep fruit & veggies for snacks as well as popcorn & protein bars. That's it. And they can eat as much as they want of those things....or leftovers. Or they can pop a can of ravioli in the microwave, make a peanut butter sandwich, etc.....whenever they want. I had the mindset that you did and I had an 11 year old in the kitchen sneaking food at night. Then I realized it WAS a control issue. I let go. Once they had free reign, they stopped taking food constantly because they KNEW it was available whenever they wanted. It did take a few months. I did have to say A LOT, I'm sorry that we are out of........because you ate it all already. They did learn to regulate. My kids are both healthy eaters with healthy weights now at 16 & almost 14. They almost never snack now.
  23. So those who have been using it.....how has it been on data usage so far? My teen wants it but will have to use my phone for the data as we live in a hotspot wasteland.
  24. DS13 has severe arthritis in one knee (he's disabled) with basically no knee joint left. His Ortho put him on Cosamin supplements (has to be Cosamin because it's the only one that's been clinically proven to have results). He's been on it for a week now and reported today that he has no more pain! DH is just old and works out and has been having knee pain. He started taking it also and reports that his knees felt better after just a few days on it! It's worth a shot!
