  1. I also find guided reading levels much more useful than lexile.
  2. Thank you all for the great suggestions! My kindergartener is going to use Desmond Tutu's version - the sample pages look lovely as well as diverse. I'm good with either historically accurate skin tones or the sort of idealized diversity that looks more like modern America. I just wanted my kids to see some alternatives to heavily Europeanized portrayals. My oldest had this one, which I liked: https://www.amazon.com/Catholic-Childrens-Illustrated-Bible-NAB-Graaf/dp/0882711970
  3. I've found the Children of God Storybook Bible, but there have to be some that I'm missing. I know my oldest had a much longer one with realistic illustrations, but I can't remember the publisher.
  4. I'll add some more links later - I'm out and the wifi here isn't great.

  6. Amazon has a sale on a number of the American Girl Mysteries and some of the non-fiction/self-help books. 99 cents
  7. I downloaded the set to iTunes and transferred it to everyone's iPods at one point. It worked just fine, except for iTunes awkwardly separating SOTW1 into two albums
  8. Does anyone know how long this sale is?
  9. That makes sense. I noticed that they're using Core Skills Language Arts to supplement EGR, so maybe that's what I will do.
  10. I'm about to just start a composition book for each of my girls. I don't like book journals that essentially require a book report for every book read.
  11. I did, because our previous (name-brand) dryer gave up the ghost right after the one year warranty expired, and I didn't want to go through that again.
  12. I am going to add in some Famous Men of Rome, but I was wondering if I should still do a full English grammar curriculum, or just something supplemental, or if that was enough.
  13. We frequently made different activity choices for my oldest child compared to younger siblings. Honestly, the kids always accepted that without much fuss.
  14. I Dare was one of my favorite of the Liaden books I've read so far. Pat Rin turned out to be a pretty interesting character. It's the last one I read in that series as well, now that I think about it. I really enjoyed all the Clan Korval books, but I never quite managed the right mood to try the YA oriented books with Theo.
  15. I'm having my fourth grader do Latin Christiana and the first Grammar Recitation Workbook. Has anyone used this that can tell me how Grammar heavy this is and how much I'll want to supplement or add a second program?
  16. I used Steck Vaughn workbooks for everyone for a crisis year once
  17. What about these introductions to Pride and Prejudice? https://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Young-Reading-Level/dp/1409523918/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495492481&sr=8-1&keywords=Pride+and+prejudice+Usborne+Reading https://www.amazon.com/Lizzy-Bennets-Diary-Inspired-Prejudice/dp/0763670308/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1495492555&sr=1-1&keywords=lizzy+bennet%27s+diary
  18. Anyone use this? Does it include regular diagramming practice like Voyages in English or just the final unit?
  19. I found both audiobooks on Scribd, and they were both about 3 hours. They both sound so similar I couldn't decide!
  20. Which one should I read? To be precise, I'll be listening to the audiobook while I drive the littles around.
  21. Going to try and get back into this group, and pick up my reading pace in general. I finished The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova. Really enjoyed it, though I think The Historian was a slightly superior work. Started The Tea Planter's Wife and wasn't impressed. I dropped it about a quarter of the way in.
  22. I use Let's Go Learn's DORA assessment to see how much extra work my kids need on vocabulary, phonics, comprehension, etc.
