  1. Wollstonecraft Detective Agency series by Jordan Stratford
  2. I found a 1962 set at hpb for 20 bucks this weekend in perfect condition. The more my girls and I look through these, the more excited we are about this purchase. 😊
  3. My daughter wants some books like the sci-fi I’ve read lately. Think The Expanse, Liaden Universe, Red Rising. Any suggestions that might be suitable for a 9 year old? She reads on a 4-6th grade level.
  4. Is this any good? And is their any content that would make it unsuitable to watch with the little ones around?
  5. My lesson plans for this keep telling me to practice sentence writing once a week. Does that mean to make up English and Latin sentences for her to translate? Have her make up a sentence for each vocabulary word? I'm lost.
  6. Thanks to whoever recommended The Library at Mount Char in the last thread. I'm quite engrossed.
  7. I read The Bookman's Tale by Charlie Lovett. Mystery and antique books and Shakespeare, all very nicely twined together. I do wish the protagonists late wife had been more realized and less idealized as a character. Also Strangers in Their Own Land by Arlie Hothschild. Very good, both as an interesting work of sociology and a glimpse into our current political divide here in America.
  8. Oh, I forgot to add, if you do go with Bookshark, audiobook versions are available for some of the history and read aloud books and that can be a real time saver for mom.
  9. Have you looked at a computer based program like k12 that might offer more support during the hours you are working? Or what about using bookshark for history and literature (I love their approach to these subjects personally) and using less teacher intensive programs for the other subjects?
  10. I'm reading Strangers in their Own Land (so happy this is finally on Scribd) and waiting for The Bookman's Tale to come available for the library.
  11. Help me out. What are kwo and b-m-e?
  12. I think I'm going to go with one composition for language arts each week, and a second from a content subject.
  13. My last kid took a *lot* longer to develop these skills. Hence my desire to recalibrate my expectations for this one.
  14. My fourth grader is doing Usborne's Reading Program, so she'll have an illustrated adaptation of a classic work or a biography to read each week.
  15. People can be the worst. It doesn't look like we'll be able to have any more babies, which I am openly sad about, and I just get so incredibly ticked off at the family members who have expressed their happiness and relief about that.
  16. How often would you expect a generally writing-competent fourth grader to turn in a composition. Such as a half to full page book narration or short report?
  17. Check your library for the older versions if possible. They have great history notes at the backs and very nice illustrations and pictures of period items that help young kids visualize the era.
  18. Thank you so much for that list EKT. I'm going to print it out for my notebook. I've made a few book basket lists for each girl, for rabbit trails, but I see a number of books there I'd didn't have.
  19. This one: https://www.amazon.com/American-Girl-Story-America-DK/dp/1465456899/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1502727808&sr=8-9&keywords=the+story+of+america
  20. I didn't know the Roman Mysteries were available as audiobooks! This is very exciting. OP, the American Girl books and History Mysteries are very good. Also maybe the Who Was? audiobooks. If you spend a lot of time in the car, Jim Weiss's SOTW audiobook is excellent.
