  1. I loved it for all the reasons everyone here has already posted, but I always felt that it was lacking in review. Now this wouldn't have been a problem because as many have posted, it's an easy remedy to fix and from what I have noticed here on this forum, most people supplement or use two programs anyway... I realized it wasn't working for my son (after trying twice) because he was/is just not an auditory learner. It was very difficult for him to focus on the lecture. But when TT works, it works! And there are many people using it, loving it, and having great test scores and successes with it! Dee
  2. We ended up doing Math U See Geometry and my son loved it! Now he wants to do Life of Fred Geometry just for fun!
  3. I checked it out...looks purty good and quite reasonable for having the teacher on dvd. I was wondering if anyone else had looked at the video samples and what were their thoughts about it? Dee
  4. Art supplies...primsacolor pencils...construction paper...beginning of the year school supplies...
  5. Lovely! Lovely! Lovely! I think you have a natural born writer on your hands! I so enjoyed the story!
  6. I'm very sorry this happened to you. In twelve years of buying and selling I've only had two bad transactions and one was about the condition of the item, and the other was on an item I never received. That's not too bad considering the many sales and purchases I've made in all those years, but it sure does hurt when it happens. I hope and pray that you do receive your package soon and it is just a mix-up, but the fact that you are not getting any feedback is suspicious. Let us know how it turns out... Dee
  7. Definitely one large binder. It works wonderfully for us to know where everything is. Of course I have workbooks in which I only file tests in the binder, but for the most part, the large binder has simplified our lives! :) (started it last year)
  8. For my fourth grader we started out the year using Moving With Math ( mastery and similar to MUS) It didn't work out, but not because of the program. It didn't work out because I found out my son really does learn best with sprial so we went back to our second year using CLE math, even though we are a year behind, and when I stopped stressing about the grade level, my son began to flourish. We are staying with CLE math for a time now. (still keeping MWM for reinforcement because I love the workbook pages) We also started WWE 2 this year after trying it on our own without the workbook, only using the teacher book. I thought this was going to be a better decision for us to have already premade worksheets with already chosen stories/references. Big Mistake! By the middle of the book it became drudgery and even though we finished the workbook, we ended up hating it at the end. I repeat, we hated the workbook, not the method. If I had continued doing writing the way that was outlined in Strong Fundamentals I think we would have been further along, but I got stuck on finishing the lessons as they were in WWE 2 workbook and in turn caused my son to hate writing of any kind. We will continue in a more natural manner for next year and not get WWE 3. :) Also, someone else mentioned the Bible Study Guide. As much as I loved this in previous years, for some reason it also became drudgery for us and we ditched it a few weeks ago. We have just been reading the Bible and I found two very cheap old and new testament guides at CBD and that's all we will be using from now on. Another one I almost forgot. We are using Easy Grammar 3/4 and my son is clueless and lost. He started off really knowing how to find those prepositions and pick out the subject and the verb, but suddenly he is clueless and all over the place. We are trying GWG next year...but honestly, I have yet to find a program for grammar that I've been happy with. I've been tempted to write my own, but I know that is an endeavor that is a little over my head right now...something like Winston Grammar but by grade levels... building each year on previously learned topics and with continual practice of the last thing taught...hmm? It's a thought...I've heard Shurley grammar is like this, but my son hates jingles so it may not work... Dee
  9. I haven't read any of the other posts, so excuse me if this is a repeat, but I just make my kids read the first 3 chapters and if after that they are not interested, I tell them they could put it down and start another book. There are too many wonderful books out there to get stuck on one that one finds boring. Just my humble opinion... Dee
  10. I'm mostly done. I still need literature and math for my soon to be 11th grader, and I need writing for my fifth grader. I would say that I'm more than 90 percent done, though...:)
  11. I'll be interested in the responses as I've had a curiosity about this program, PBW, for some time...:bigear: Dee
  12. I am of the belief that phonics should be practiced until the age of 10. My son is 11 and while he is an excellent reader, we still go over our Tatras Phonograms and discuss the rules of phonics. Do they need a phonics workbook every year? I don't think so, but do they need practice and discussions on the whys? I believe that it can't hurt them. It certainly hasn't hurt me and I am still learning things that I didn't know. I swear I didn't know there were 5 rules for a silent E until I read that on this board.
  13. CLE, CLE, CLE! We just love CLE! There's no need to supplement when you are using CLE because it's all in there! Test her in at the website diagnosis testing area and trust the process. My son is using a year behind, but that is okay. I have seen so much progress and growth this year...the oral drill, written drill, and flash cards are all in there... In all my years of homeschooling, I have never seen a math program like this. I highly recommend it! Dee ;)
  14. Perkybunch, Can you tell me how long you spend on a typical day's lesson? Thanks, Dee
  15. How long did a typical lesson take? Also, how did you fit in your other assignments like grammar and spelling? Did you do them one right after the other? If I do choose to get this, I'm trying to get an idea of what a flow to our days will look like? Thank you for any help, Dee
  16. My highschooler will not be doing anything. He is needing the break. My fifth grader may do a little math here and there, but not much. :) Dee :)
  17. I have a similar CLE story. We started the year using CLE 3. My son got stuck on place value in the very beginning and so I purchased Moving With Math. This program is very similar to Math U See. We used MWM successfully for a few months, but then my son got stuck on some two digit multiplication. So I pulled out our old CLE 3 lightunits and it's been heaven since. He gets everything and he has growth! Will I still finish out the MWM...sure I'll use it to supplement, but I just ordered our CLE math again for next year. I think we'll stay here for a while. Hopefully the next time there are tears, we'll just put the curriculum away for a while and not go out and purchase a whole new program. But hey, you live, you learn. The success stories make it all worth it in the end. Dee :) ps Usually, even though I am always on the research for the next year's curriculum, I pretty much stick to what I purchase for the year. This year I did stray and try samples of two different programs. They ended up not being such a good fit and well, I am glad I found that out this year, and not after making a full order for next year. I'm also glad I hadn't totally let go of our previously used programs because we were able to just keep going with our flow and not have to change much. Our little experimenting only cost us two weeks and lots of lessons learned.
  18. Yeah we are :), I'm waiting for my daughter to come home from work...I have so much on my mind...

  19. Well, for us, I supplement because when introducing something new, sometimes my son needs more problems, not less. Sometimes I put CLE down and just work on a concentrated topic for a bit, then pick CLE back up later. We may use something like MUS on the side, but that's just us. We do the flashcards orally where I've divided them into about 3-5 days and we do one set a day. We don't do the speed drills as my son pretty much knows his facts cold, and this would be too much for my writing phobic son, and yet it still works out just fine for us as he does very well in his tests. We also tried a mastery program at the beginning of the year only to find out that once the old topic was not being practiced, it was quickly forgotten. So we are back to CLE, and we are about a year behind, but we don't focus on that anymore. Instead we focus on a set of skills that need to be learned. HTH, Dee :)
  20. This is one of my favorite writing programs for the 6th-8th grades. It is written to be done with more than one child. There are assignments where the student is to exchange papers with another student. I have adjusted the assignments when necessary, but if you can get around that, the assignments are written in a way that are so easy to understand. I love it more than Wordsmith for that age and have had 3 of my children go through it in the 6th and 7th grades. Each one has loved it. Is there anything specific that you want to know. I haven't used it in a few years, but will not part with it, so I can pull it out and try and answer any questions you have. Dee
  21. That sounds like you have everything covered and at grade level, so I wouldn't worry at all. :) Great job mom!
  22. I would also use a lot of the resources that I have collected over the years, but even then, the internet is filled with youtube videos on almost everything! Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Grammar, and Writing, I could definitely find sources online for free. The library has books on everything and that would also be utilized to its full potential. I would dedicate one to two hours a week to plan, but once that was done, I would think that our days would flow as they do now. I think it's all about order, but then that's me. Math would be one of the more difficult ones, but not impossible, as with a little planning and thinking, I could wing elementary. Highschool maths would be a bit trickier, but again, the library has so much materials. I would also scout the Goodwills and Salvation armies for good materials. Google books is also a blessing! Charlotte Mason education would definitely come into play here as all you need to do is read and narrate! Dee :)
