  2. This was my daughter's favorite book when she was little. We absolutely loved it!
  3. Mine is up. http://www.chosenthatgoodpart.blogspot.com
  4. I am using Spelling Plus Dictation book and have used it successfully, but I am wondering if I should actually purchase the Spelling Plus book. Do the lessons actually teach when to add prefixes and suffixes, or do they leave that open to the teacher to add? Also, are rules given in the actual lessons for when to add or change a word's endings? any rules? Thank you...I am making my next order on some needs today and want to make sure I order everything I need. :) Blessings, Dee
  5. We really enjoyed Winston Grammar. Winston Grammar Advanced wasn't as exciting and sometimes a little difficult for us to understand exactly what was being asked, but we got through it. My son really enjoyed Winston and I have kept it for use with my other son maybe for next year in the 5th grade. :) We are presently using Easy Grammar, and while I like it, it seems over his head, but we get through it and I figure little pegs are being formed in there, or at least, I hope. :) oops, I forgot the pros: Easy to use, short lessons, almost feels like a game, kids love the cards cons: Nothing else is included but grammar. I wish there were more practice sentences, but they do sell a separate book. :) Dee
  6. My not so Wordless Wednesday. http://www.chosenthatgoodpart.blogspot.com
  7. Let's see what I could remember of my 11 year blunders. Sing Spell Read and Write brand new Saxon Math 54, 76, 87, and pre-algebra Italic handwriting (can't remember the name) Learning Adventures Unit Study (bought twice--loved it in theory, couldn't pull it off) Understanding Writing (bought 3 times--I don't learn) Spelling Workout (liked it, but it didn't really work) Older Version of Math U See before the new version came out Beautiful Feet Guides Beyond Five In a Row (liked it, but my girls had passed that stage already) Comprehensive Composition Victory Drill Book (bought three times, yes, three times!) 100 Easy Lessons (made my son cry everytime I took it out) Modern Curriculum Press Math (4rth grade level) Abeka World History Abeka 7th grade Science (all new with tests and everything) Forgot Konos and Considering God's Creation I'm sure there is way more, but this is what I can remember at 1:15 in the morning...can't sleep...
  8. I'm only using the dictation resource book. I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to purchase the Spelling Plus book. Are there lessons on when to add prefixes and suffixes, because I'm not always sure when I should be adding those lessons to the words. Can someone let me know? Also, are there rules taught as right now I'm sort of just flying solo while using the phonograms? :) Thank you for any help, Dee
  9. Is anyone using BJU spelling this year? I'm thinking about it for the 4rth grade? Thanks, Dee!:)
  10. This is the one we have and you can get it for 1 cent, 3.99 shipping at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/My-First-Book-Human-Body/dp/185830377X/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283904718&sr=8-11 It's just adorable. It has a boy section and a girl's section and it is simple, but yet thorough covering, the heart, blood, lungs, stomach, bones and joints circulation, liver, kidneys, the nervous system, muscles, the urinary system, teeth, hair-nails-and skin, the senses, and the miracle of life! Just love it! Dee :) ps each page opens up to one of those see through plastic little pages where you can see all the parts right through.
  11. Maybe she meant as opposed to teaching math facts...that's the only reason I could think of she would think they were evil. They sure would have helped me in the first and second grade. I was one of those kids who just never got it up until I turned around 10.
  12. It sounds so complete! Are there any samples of this anywhere?
  13. Honestly, for first grade the SSRW is enough as is. You can always add in the other components in her second grade year, or when you are completely done with your reading/phonics time. HTH, Dee :)
  14. Maybe someone can send you a copy of those pages. I would if I had the book! ;)
  15. I don't see it recommended much on this board, but we have loved Cursive Connections. You can get it at Rainbow Resource. It's so simple to use, and it teaches letter formation on each page. My son's handwriting is so beautiful after using this. We are on our second book because a friend gave it to us, but he doesn't really need it. I just have him do one row a day for practice. Really, that's all I think most children need. For me, I'd rather one really well done line, than a whole page done done rushed or with disdain. Dee :) http://rainbowresource.com/product/Cursive+Connections+-+Modern+Style+Book+A/037609/1282837074-1782355 We used the Modern book (green) and are now on the traditional, but the only difference is that the modern is more for teaching and has less loops. My son is loving more loops now added on with the yellow traditional book.
  16. I've really loved Cursive Connections. I found it at Rainbow Resource. :) (but I think they have a website, maybe you could google it)
  17. I use Spelling Plus Dictation as our whole spelling program. What we do is on Monday we go over the word list. On Tuesday, we discuss any special spelling patterns, or phonograms. Sometimes we mark the words with our own system, basically it's just circling or underlinging familiar phonograms, or phongrams that need special notice. On Wednesday I start orally quizzing...and on Thursday or Friday I will give a written test. If all the words are spelled correctly, the following week we will start the dictation sentences at 4-5 a day. If there are troublesome words, we may choose to practice further, or just begin dictation anyway. Usually once the dictation starts, the word is remembered. My son has really retained the spelling of most of the words this way. But the bonus has also been the attention to capitalization and punctuation along the way. I asked my son if he wanted a workbook this year for spelling, and he declined telling me that he loved the way that we do spelling with dictation. We plan to continue with Spelling Plus Dictation throughout the 6th grade. HTH, Dee in Sunny FL!
  18. Kareni, yes, thank you, I would love to see it. It will give me a better picture of what is expected. Dee :) rebel 4 jesus 25 @ hotmail . com (join)
  19. Kareni, Can you elaborate a little on what the key was about? Was it a description of the courses? When you sent in a description of the courses, was it attached to the official transcript? Thank you, Dee :001_smile:
  20. We started with Cursive Connections the green book--I think it's the beginner's book, and are now using the yellow book. We found it at RR. We only work on one line per day, that's it, and my son has beautiful cursive handwriting. Dee
  21. Thanks, Lisa. I guess I thought that if I couldn't find a course code, I couldn't leave it blank. Now I know that I could put course codes for the ones I have and leave the ones I can't find blank. Dee :) who is still messing around with a bunch of templates trying to figure out one she likes. Sometimes for an obsessive person like me, too much choice is a bad thing. Wonder why I chose the umbrella to do it for me with the first two??? I'm looney!
  22. Wow, I just received an email from Lee Binz today in which it directed me to an hour webinar (free) and one of the bits of info. in there was that parents should do a 7th and 8th grade transcript for practice. Hmm? Something to think about, I guess. :) Anyway, thanks Brindee, and everyone else who posted. My fears are eased a bit...oh why do I always let everything highschool rattle me so much. I am going to go back and remove those A+'s and just make them A's. I did A+ on subjects that he scored over a 95 at the end of averaging everything out, but yeah, it makes him look like a braniac, and that he is not. :) Intelligent and bright, yes, a genius, no! Also, I want to make sure that his year's ACT tests reflect those grades. I can't help but wonder that none of those grades mean a darned thing if they score poorly on those entrance tests like the ACT and the SAT's. Many Blessings and Good Luck to your son, Brindee!! Dee
  23. Brindee, I have a few. I found this one for free: http://teascript.com/ and then there's this one that you download, it's pretty kewl: http://www.homeschool-curriculum-savings.com/homeschool-transcript-template.html Let me know if any of these are similar to the one you are talking about. There are also a few software programs that charge from 29-50 dollars. I have been wondering about those or whether they are even necessary. I'm about to start 10th grade with my son, but I wanted him to have a 9th grade transcript around so that if something ever happened to me, they would know how to proceed from there. I know, morbid thought, but also you never know. On the off chance that he did return to the public school, they would also need records of what he did and my husband wouldn't have a single clue. :) Dee
