  1. Our 12 year old was tested and has auditory/visual processing issues and memory. All were between the 1 and 15th percentile. I am wondering what to do for reading. We had her in school last year and put her in a very nice Christian School this year but that is not working out for her. The academics are too hard and homework way too heavy. I am thinking about doing BJ reading with the DVD's. I would choose some of the workbook activities. Has anyone tried something like this? Her reading comprehension/vocab/inferences/figurative language areas are low so I thought this may be a good solution. I am concerned about the time it would take. I had chosen a history curriculum using literature for reading and history but it would be light on the reading components compared to Bob Jones. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  2. Wondering if anyone has used this and what they think of the book choices, geography, crafts and hands on etc.? Did you and your child enjoy it? Thanks, Amy
  3. Science never got done at our house, that is until I found Nancy Larson Science. We love it here. I never thought I would enjoy a scripted programs but it is great. We learn a lot and the experiments are fun, to the point, and easy to do. We look forward to doing science now. It is worth the price to me. Plus you can always sell it when you are done.
  4. Can you tell me your experience with either of these curriculums? How well did you and your children like them? How much time did they take? Thank you, Amy
  5. I have the following Evan Moor Take it to Your Seat Centers books: All in Excellent shape. Science Centers Grades 1-2 $17 ppd Math Centers Grades 2-3 $17 ppd Literacy Centers Grade 2-3 $17 ppd These next 2 I have made some of the centers and laminated them. Will send as a package. Vocabulary Centers Grades 1-2 $18 ppd Geography Centers Grades 1-2 $ 18ppd Both in excellent shape! If possible email me personally These would work great with Sue Patrick's Workbox System. You can check out the books on Amazon. Thanks!
  6. Nancy Larson Science has been great here. My girls love it and look forward to it. Madon, at NL is very helpful in picking a level. Level 4 is coming out soon. We had not done much science at all and we did level 2 with 4th graders and although the worksheets were easy (though my girls never said they were) we learned a lot and they retained much!
  7. Our favorite so far is Nancy Larson. It is the only science that I actually do and complete. My girls love it and are learning so much. They even say that we ARE doing NL next year. We are not switching that! It is pricey but you can sell it after you are done. I love how it is scripted and the experiments are easy to do, interesting and very effective! They retain what they are learning. For us, this is a big hit.
  8. Wondering if anyone call tell me which program has the most interesting books for the history portion of each program starting with CTC/CTG? I need interesting reading in order for the program to go well in this house. MFW looks like it has more pictures etc. with the reading which may be a plus. But even then it needs to grab their attention. Thanks.

  10. It took me a long time to push the button to order NL 2. In fact it took me until October to do it. I have not regretted it one bit. Both my girls love it and it is the only subject that they ASK to do. Almost every day that we do science they say, "I love this program" or "we are going to do this next year again". They have learned and retained so much. When considering this program, I really didn't know if they (or I for that matter) would enjoy the topics. That has not been an issue at all. The topics presented in they way NL does, has made it enjoyable for us all. I too like science now. One thing that you should consider is that you can sell it when you are done. Your investment is really quite minimal then.
  11. I have been using CLE and my girls have done well with all the review but they have hit a wall with double digit mutiplication, long division, then decimals, etc. It is going too fast and math time is drudgery here. Even though I supplement with manipulatives they just need more mastery before moving on. That being said, I am going to use MUS as my spine and was thinking about using MM or TT along with it. I love MUS but I have never been able to do it without covering more topics in one year (I did it with my older boys). So I too am interested to see if others have done MUS with TT and what your thoughts are.
  12. First I would say to talk with Madon at NL Science about the levels. She is great in helping with decisions like that. She is the best one to ask. FOR US, level 2 is a great fit. The girls have had very LITTLE science and school is not always easy for them, so keep that in mind. The topics are not gone into deeply but the vocabulary is strong. The worksheets would be on the easy side for a 4th grader but they are good and reinforce the lesson and review previous lessons. My girls have never complained about the worksheets, in fact quite the opposite. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Amy
  13. Check out www.morningstarlearning Britta has a nice website. There are some utube sites with people teaching the program. It is hard to learn but once you get it, it is open and go.
  14. I just wanted to say that we are loving NL Science 2 this year. I would buy a curriculum thinking this will be good and I will like doing it and I would do a few lessons and then it would sit on the shelf. Science just didn't happen in our house. I read a lot about NL Science and decided to pay the price and give it a try. My girls are in 4th grade and I went with level 2. They love it and so do I!! It is the favorite part of our day. They are learning and I am thrilled. I don't think this curriculum is meant for everyone, but for us it is great.
