  1. TT7 is what I would pick in your situation, fwiw.
  2. Congratulations on your son's success story as well as *your* perseverance! Blessings, Becky
  3. I just talked to CAP. They said they are working on some practice sheets, but that it will definitely be a while before they are available...2 or 3 years even. I told them that the sample looked great and that people were asking on here about when they might be ready. He said he would pass that on and to keep an eye on their website. He commented that they would be in pdf form or something like that...not in an actual book format. Hope that helps.
  4. Hi there. It might help if you mention the ages of the dc that you want to teach as a group. :001_smile: Blessings, Becky
  5. I just wanted to say: :grouphug: to everyone! Blessings, Becky
  6. This fall has been quite the challenge here as well. At the end of August (just when we were really rolling with school and in a great routine...), a HUGE pine tree snapped on our house during Hurricane Irene. We had to move (for several reasons) while they repaired the hole in our roof and gutted the upstairs. My aunt died and 6 weeks later her daughter, my 52 yo cousin, died of cancer that she had no idea she had. My mother has had half a dozen or so mini strokes and now cannot drive or be left alone. So, we drove back and forth from our 30 min. away location to care for her. Now, we are in the same town again. My dh couldn't pay his rent anymore at his business and had to relocate it. Also, my dd15 who has Lyme had an endoscopy that revealed she has Celiac as well. We finally moved back home the Wed. before Christmas!!!! God has been faithful through it all, though, and worked beautiful things in so many ways through all we have been through! All that to say, it has been a CRAZY fall! I am SOOOOO excited about things getting back to normal. I am extremely motivated right now and chomping at the bit to get started. (after Christmas break, I mean...we still did school in the midst of the turmoil...we just didn't accomplish what we normally would have. I plan to make up for it this next semester, though. Look out!) I hope that nothing like we have been through this fall happens to motivate you, though! Read a good book instead!!!!!!:lol::lol: (Thanks for listening! It was therapeutic just writing all that down.) ETA: I just reread your op and it sounds like you had some unexpected things hit as well. I hope things have settled down. I will say a prayer for you. ETA: I am so excited...we just got my dd's Celiac DNA test back...SHE DOES NOT HAVE CELIAC! Praise the Lord!!!!
  7. My dd15 has just been diagnosed with Celiac disease. A lot of the symptoms you guys are mentioning could be related to Celiac...maybe not, but if it *is* related gluten intake actually damages your body. It is an autoimmune response...a person with Celiac does not have the enzymes needed to process wheat (gluten). A person with Celiac **that continues to eat gluten** has a 40 to 100 times greater chances of getting cancer of the intestines. Gluten free is the only way to handle the disease. I just thought I would throw that out there...I sincerely hope that it is *not* the case for any of you! If you are wondering, I would google it and see what you come up with. Thanks for the great GF tips! It is very encouraging to know that we are not the only ones dealing with being gluten free. It is definitely a challenge.
  8. We'll be starting back next week, just as soon as we are through with the stomach bug!!! :tongue_smilie: We will be finishing up the Abeka 1 program in about a month. I'm trying to figure out which way to go after that.
  9. I already own the TM for Shurley 1. I would prefer to use it than to have to buy level 2 due to the $. Then, we could skip level 2 and use the level 3 that I have next year. What do you think?
  10. We are finishing Abeka phonics 1 in about a month. This is their second grade year. (my youngest sons) First grade, we tried OPGTR...didn't work for one, did for the other. So, I switched late in the year and am just now finishing the Abeka 1st grade, which has worked well for both. So, do I double time the Abeka 2nd grade (easily done) or do a follow up phonics using Explode the Code, All About Spelling, & Shurley 1 (to cover the language skills)? I already own ETC, AAS, & Shurley 1 TM. I would only have to buy Shurley student materials. This is a much less expensive option than buying all the Abeka 2 workbooks. However, Abeka has worked well for us, so I am a little wary of switching. I am wondering if it would be important to reinforce what they have learned the way they learned it. But, then again, phonics is phonics, right? What would you do?
  11. Hey. We already pm'd about this, but I'll send you my info to be sure to hold my spot. :001_smile: Thanks, Becky
  12. I am VERY interested!!! I had planned on doing a VP History course w/ some Christmas money. I would love to be included in a group buy! :)
  13. :bigear: I would love to know also!
  14. I think some people are more craft and activity oriented than others. I tend to love the *idea* of a craft/activity, but when it comes to actually making it happen...it's a little on the rare side. I tend to be more like you...we love, love, love to read books aloud!!!! That is way more important in my mind...that the kids love to read. So, my two cents is to not beat yourself up about it. If Sonlight frees you up to not feel guilty about it, I'd try it out. :) I have used MFW with a lot of success by only doing a few of the activities. It doesn't bother me to skip them. But, if you are a check off the list type person where every single thing must be done or it will bother you, then that might not work for you.
  15. Be encouraged...homeschooling is a big change. It takes time to adjust and it *will* get better! It's wonderful that your dd loves what you have chosen! I agree with the advice of several others that it is always good to start with a subject or two...the basics...and do that for a while and then add another and another *gradually* until you are going full force. You are more than likely going through the adjustment to homeschooling in general. I'm sure that I would be overwhelmed if I started all that at one time and I have been homeschooling for about 12 years. I have to gradually start for it to not feel so overwhelming. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job, btw. :)
  16. We loved Beautiful Feet History at that age. They have an early American history with lots of great books and you can do a notebook if you want to. They also have a timeline. :)
