  2. I'm so curious about this DVD series. I am sooo wishing I had the money for it. If you have used it, do you feel that it was worth it? It's pretty expensive, imo. But, it might be worth it if it helps someone (like me) who knows zero Latin to half way understand it.
  3. how the Latin language works? I will be teaching LFC A next year to my dc...with the help of the DVD, of course. But, I want to understand it myself so that I will feel confident about it. I saw that there is a Latin for Teachers DVD seminar at the CAP website. The only problem is that it is $275!!!! I just do not have the money to spend on that, but I soooo wish I did. Is there anything similar that is not so expensive? Sigh!
  4. I am hoping Jann or someone else who knows will see this post. :)
  5. I got the 8th edition. Do you know where the DVTs can be purchased? Jann, what do you think of Math Relief? I don't mean to put you on the spot. Is it okay to ask that?
  6. Done. I wish I could find the DVTs, though. Just in case, kwim?
  7. We're starting Math Relief Alg. I next year. I think it is a good fit, but I don't particularly like that there is no text. You can watch the DVDs as many times as you like, though. :) Could anyone suggest a text that explains Algebra really well that we could use for a reference? Thanks!
  8. I called Peace Hill Press to clarify. I was told that there will not be a separate workbook. There *will* be student pages in it, though, that can be copied for use within the family. I am hoping that they will put those pages at the back so that it will be easier to copy. I did suggest that, anyway, and the gentleman that I spoke with at Peace Hill Press said that he would mention it.
  9. Thanks, ladies. So, am I to assume that this is a TM and so to teach multiple children, I will only need to purchase *one* book?
  10. Is the book that is on Amazon's website the only book you need for the course? Am I right in assuming that there is no separate workbook to purchase at this level? Also, can we pre-purchase on Peace Hill's website? Does anyone know if it is still designed for 3 days a week? I know...lots of questions that you may not have the answers to, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks!
  11. Thank you so much for the ideas! Megan W, you are so kind to give me all those links! I will definitely check them out. I sooo wish I we could *really* do FIAR. If I bought the curriculum, which volume would work best for my then 7 & 8 yo boys? I guess I need a volume where you aren't dependent on the library...I plan to purchase the books.
  12. What would you say are your favorite books from any of the levels for 7 & 8 yo boys? Unfortunately, I don't have the teaching time to add this curriculum. So, I decided to pick the best of the books that would appeal to my boys and have a book basket for them to choose great books from...at least we'll have cuddle and read time! I have gotten so busy teaching 6 dc that I hardly read to them anymore! I am determined to make time for that!!!!! :)
  13. Brindee, thank you for your kindness and prayers! It means a lot! We're looking forward to MFW next year! :)
  14. Thank you, MommyFaithe. It is truly a nasty disease. My dd told me the other day that it is ruining her life. She just wants it to be over! We've been dealing with this illness in our family (3 have it) for several years now. Around Nov. this year, her symptoms really got worse. She seems to be improving some now. I hope so. Isn't it so difficult to watch your child suffer? Her faith in God is what carries her through. She's pretty amazing. I will say a prayer for your ds. It is so difficult to know what to do regarding treatment sometimes, isn't it? What some call 'post Lyme', other doctors call chronic Lyme and continue to treat with antibiotics until they are asymptomatic. I'm just curious...how did they come to the conclusion that it is post Lyme? Maybe we should pm the rest of this conversation (if you'd like to, that is) :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Hugs to you! It is a rough road.
  15. Well, I got my computer to read pdf files, finally. So, I got to look at MFW AH. It is entirely too good to pass up. It is way better than BF. I am not going to settle for something less because of the Lyme issue. I am sick of it controlling our lives. If we have to go a little slower, so be it. Thanks so much for your thoughts and suggestions. I am excited about finally making a definite decision. My dd is too...I think she is just a little intimidated about how long it might take to do. We'll adjust it to what she is able to do at the time. We'll tweak if necessary.
  16. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the response. I talked to HSLDA today and got some good info. According to them, I can make my own high school requirements....everything from number of credits to what those credits consist of. Whew! That's a relief! I am glad that I researched enough to learn what is normally required by a public school in our state as well as locally, though. It gave me some insight, I think. So, I have the wonderful advantage of being able to follow the good Lord's leading on the whole thing. YAY! I can't believe I'm on the big kids' board now! Time passes much too quickly. I am sure I will have tons of questions over the next 4 years. :tongue_smilie: I have 5 more behind my new high schooler, so I'll be hangin' out for a while! Thanks again!
  17. I am sooo hoping that someone has some advice for me! :)
  18. I haven't homeschooled a high schooler in quite a few years, but next year 9th grade will be upon us so I have been researching. When I looked up our state's requirements, I saw that they have a separate set for those starting high school in 2009 and beyond. They now require 4 electives in one area of concentration. How do you handle that if you aren't sure what your dd wants to do? Also, they require 3 higher level courses such as AP or Honors. (a 5 or 6 quality point course...I have no idea what this means!) How do we meet that requirement as homeschoolers? As you can see, I have lots of questions. Boy, things have changed since my oldest dd graduated from our homeschool. I'm not sure where she will go to school, so I want to be prepared for anything.
  19. Julie and Brindee, thank you so much! I know I have posted about this issue before...it is such a difficult call for me. Thank you for your patience in discussing it with me again. See, now it is time to order and so I have to make a final decision. I haven't actually *seen* a sample of MFW high school because my computer can't read pdf files. If I were to try to tweak it, would it require a lot on my part? I'm teaching 6 dc, so I don't have a lot of time for planning, etc. That is one of the reasons why I wanted it to begin with...because it is all laid out so well with the student schedule, etc. BUT, if I would have to figure out how to trim it down and still cover the important stuff and basically rewrite it, it will never work. My dd feels totally overwhelmed by the idea of doing MFW at this point. She will likely be going through antibiotic treatment next year, which can be kind of intense. That is why I am considering not doing it. If things were "normal" (whatever that is!), we would *definitely* do it!!! I am wondering if we should do BF for Ancients and then try MFW the next year. So, do you think it would take constant tweaking to make it work? I don't want to have to do that to a year's worth of material.
  20. Thank you so much, ladies! What a wealth of information is in this thread! I watched the youtube videos of SWB and I also read the one with her 7 yo. Your thoughts on it are so helpful. It is reassuring to know that other homeschoolers find this to be a difficult, but important skill to learn. I found it so helpful to learn that it is okay to repeat the dictation sentence by sentence, but *not* word by word. Also, to learn that the goal is that by the end of WWE 4, your dc will have a greater capacity to hold words in his mind. In addition, it is helpful to know that the purpose of the whole dictation exercise is to train them to keep words in their mind long enough to write them down. I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. I would love to hear more of your thoughts and ideas!
