  1. Thank you for the SL suggestion. I had forgotten about them. That's a good idea also. :) Any others? So, are my choices VP First Favorites, MP Storytime Treasures, or SL Readers?
  2. I'm using OPG as my main reading program. I just wanted something with great books for next year...but, hopefully, something they can read on their own. So, I was looking at FF because it is a reading program designed for children who have already been through a phonics program. It looks like MP has something similar with Storytime Treasures. I love the looks of FIAR, but I think that is a read aloud program vs. a "stretch their reading skills" type program. Thoughts? Ideas? :D
  3. I am ever hopeful that someone knows the answer to my question....:D
  4. I am also considering FIAR...but, isn't that more a read aloud to them type program? Who knows...I may do both. Thoughts, anyone? :001_smile:
  5. I'm using OPG with my boys, but thinking into next year...I would like to use a reading program that is systematic and fun that uses real books. So, my questions are: *When in OPG would my ds be ready for VP's First Favorites? *Do you think this program is what I am looking for? *Other ideas? Thanks!
  6. Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with Vol. 3. Now to come up with the $$$. :D
  7. Thanks, Sue. I do have some of the books for Vol. 1 already. But, I did wonder if the later volumes might be better. How long did you devote to FIAR each day?
  8. We loved Hidden Treasure of Glaston. Everyone enjoyed it. Even my 6 & 7 yos! :D
  9. They love great stories! I would love to hear more about your experiences with FIAR. How much time do you devote to it each day? Do the suggestions for daily activities take much prep time?
  10. My dd14 has had a blog for almost a year. She says it is very simple to start one with blogger. It takes you step by step through the set up process. Hope that helps! :001_smile:
  11. I have a few thoughts on this matter that I would like to share, but I have to teach right now. I'll be back later....;)
  12. I don't think the MUS blocks would work with the MFW Alphabet book. I don't know about the other one.
  13. MFW also suggests copying specific pages of AC's World so that your dc can color while you are reading. Even my oldest dd enjoyed that. Just a thought. ;)
  14. Could you please tell me where on the website the video lessons are? We are using LL1 and that could come in handy. When I went to their website, I couldn't find the videos. Thanks. :)
  15. My favorite: As your days, so shall your strength be. ~Deut. 33:25b NKJV I repeat this to myself *often*! I could not walk this walk without the strength of Jesus. Apart from Him, I can do nothing. This scripture reminds me that whatever my day holds, God will give me the strength for it. Blessings to you! What a wonderful thread!
  16. My dd did 1/2 of Apologia General Science for 7th and is finishing the other 1/2 this year in 8th. I think it was a good pace for her...and she learned to study without feeling so pressured. She enjoyed it and we plan to continue through high school with the series. She just said that is challenging, but it is definitely good! HTH. Blessings!
  17. Well, what can I say? We *LOVE*MFW!!! The only thing I add is extra read alouds, chosen from their list in the back of the TM...and sometimes I get ideas from Veritas Press. We did RtR last year. I pretty much did it as is...the only thing I would say that I didn't like is the book they use in science where you have to cut a bunch of paper diagrams of parts of the body. It would be great in the right situation. However, I found myself getting aggravated with having to help 3 of the 4 I was teaching with the cutting process. Too much. We dropped it. But, everything else was wonderful!
  18. I have 9 & 10 yo girls who *love* horses. Would this program be age appropriate?
  19. Thank you all so very much. Your responses have been very helpful. I spoke with R&S today...they are currently writing an Algebra program, but they were unable to state when it would be ready...a couple of years was her estimation. I, too, am waffling between Math Relief and Lial's with Jann in TX. I know of a local family that used R&S through 8th and went straight into Math Relief with no problem. I would prefer a textbook, though. I do like the idea of getting something like Lial's to use for reference. My ds has definitely struggled with math. I think he is understanding it, finally, with R&S!!! I like the slow and steady wins the race comment. So true. Thanks again for the responses. That detailed review of Math Relief was *very* helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to type all that out!
  20. Thank you all for your responses. Does Lial's Introductory Algebra have DVDs available? If so, do you know where I could find them?
  21. What Algebra program works well following R&S math? They don't have an Algebra program, so I am thinking ahead. Thanks! :001_smile:
