A Reader's Group book choices for Nov/Dec

My vote is for the Painted Veil. I'd love to read The Woman in White, but I don't have the time for an 800 page book. -
Do you think $250,000/year is wealthy?

About 2 years ago my 2 older children wrote to President Bush telling him that they were praying for him and requesting a photo, and indeed they both received letters and photos. They treasure them. Oh, they also told him they were homeschoolers...;) I highly recommend having your children write to the President and other politicians.

LaMere Academy replied to 1cat2ferrets's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh I got that from PBS and read ch. 1 and then put it down. Why is it that the books I NEED to read, I put down and forget?? -

Well I finally finished Innocent Traitor last night! Finally. I've been in a reading slump and taking forever to finish a book. This one was about Lady Jane Grey. It was pretty good. Still reading I Capture the Castle, but I haven't been actively reading it...I have a bookmark in it and haven't picked it up in weeks, now I need to get going. Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spiritby Terri Maxwell The Facts of Life and Other Lessons My Father Taught Me by Lisa Whelchel (a reread, I find it very inspiring) To the children I'm reading Trumpet of the Swan and God King -
Have you seen this book list?
LaMere Academy replied to cajun.classical's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I've read 25 so far, but many are on my list to read. Why do you think The Color Purple should be banned?? -

POLL: Do you celebrate Halloween?
LaMere Academy replied to Alenee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We didn't for a few years in CT because I also don't like the idea and our neighborhood wasn't very friendly. Now we've moved to the south, great family neighborhood and it's fun for the kids to go around with all the other kids in our neighborhood. It's like a huge party in the streets here, with kids and parents. So, now we do. I don't make a big deal out of it though, the kids did make homemade ghosts to hang in our trees last year and want to do that again this year...other than that, we just go trick-or-treating that night and that's as far as the "celebrating" goes. :D -
Type of notebook for Algebra I?
LaMere Academy replied to Frontier Mom's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
my son uses a comp notebook, the pages stay in better and don't tear like a spiral. for portfolio I figure I can just copy the pages I want in it. -
I've never used a tag...don't care about them, but I just about died laughing when I just saw the sticky about "bad" tags and that the mods can see them. Who would do such a thing??

LaMere Academy replied to Prairie~Phlox's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The only thing we've watched this week is Dancing with the Stars. My girls are excited that Cody from Hannah Montana is on there and I like Rocco...even if he is a cheeseball. :D -
There are movies out there I hope my children as adults don't even want to see and I tell them that. Just because someone made something sick and disgusting doesn't mean we need to watch it and have those images in our minds. I know I see movies and what's in them stays with me...I'm thinking right now of Gone Baby Gone...the little boy? It haunts me. I will censor what my children see until they move out of our home. There's too much sick garbage out there. If they choose to see it on their own as adults, then that will be their choice. No way would I give permission for my child, even at 18 to view the movie described above.
