  1. But there's no monthly fee right? But you can surf the web on it? I didn't know that.
  2. I never give my kids out, only my dh's because the insurance is through him. They don't need my kids ss#'s. I always leave it blank and have never had an issue. We've lived in TX, CT And now FL and never had anyone tell me they HAD to have it.
  3. They didn't die in the house, so no I wouldn't have any issues with it.
  4. Yes. Very. I let my 15.5 year old dd watch it and at times I cringe. It's not even appropriate for her really.
  5. Both my younger kids are using the same year (Grade 6) and I bought the book but planned on not using it (bought the package used, book never used) and figured I could resell it all again. However my 10 year old was having a hard time doing the program on the computer because he had to write out all the problems on paper and it was just too much to do that, make sure it was lined up and do the problem. So I switched to the book and it made a huge difference. So, no you don't need the book unless you have a child that might have that problem.
  6. Story of the World I think has been the only consistent thing we've always used ever since I started with it, it's been at least 7 years
  7. OK, so this means they just list titles and don't tell you what the book is about? If so that's horrible! That's the main thing I use when looking at the catalog.
  8. I recommend SimplyCharlotteMason.com Also, A Charlotte Mason Education by Catherine Levison and A Charlotte Mason Companion by Karen Andreaola. The first book is a good introduction to CM and her methods.
  9. I just started The Help by Kathryn Stockett last night.
  10. are they upsetting, or between two people who love each other? That book has been on my shelf for over a year and I want to read it, but I'm worried that it will be disturbing.
  11. I've been reading fluff. Just finished The Christmas Cookie Club by Ann Pearlman and started Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella.
  12. $140 a month, Verizon, 4 phones with 1400 minutes and 10 free landline numbers we can call and receive calls from. No texting.
  13. Well I'm more on the relaxed side and even I meet people who I just have doubts about...whether or not they really do much or require much of their children. I've been hs'ing for 10 years and I've only had these thoughts as I'm coming in contact with other homeschooled teens. There are some that seem like they don't do anything, but of course we can't know.
  14. I don't dislike it, it's just not as good as I thought it would be. It's one I heard about from others reading it on another homeschool board. It's just kind of slow to me.
  15. Ack! I got them mixed up. Just looked it up on Amazon. I loved Snow Flower and disliked Peony as well.
  16. Oh Yay! I just got that from the library. I loved Peony in Love but didn't like Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (I didn't finish it, couldn't get into it)
  17. Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran. I'm about halfway through and it's OK. I want to finish it so I can find out who is doing the things against Caesar. Other than that, it's not that great. I did debate on putting it down.
  18. Yes and I asked for it! My 14 year old dd got one last year and ever since [i stopped laughing...] I've wanted one. :D
  19. My daughter just got the first book. Is the movie just the first book? We are looking forward to seeing it, but first the book must be read!
  20. I had to stay up until 2AM for my kids to be sleeping. However, this is the first year that everyone knows there is no santa and that is SOOOO freeing! But still, how fun is it if you hear mom putting everything out and in the stockings? I love them waking up and seeing everything and having it be a surprise.
