  1. HA HA HA! I don't know why this is so funny, but it CRACKED me up!!!!
  2. Count me as a shovel-lover :) I love the instant gratification. The job is done when it's done!
  3. Oh man, I laughed so hard! There's a new show on the IFC network called Portlandia. I grew up in Seattle, and had relatives in SW Washington and Portland, OR. I visited Portland a TON growing up. These people have nailed it! No offense is meant, whatsoever, to Portlandites.
  4. On some blogs, I've noticed a cool feature that provides a "you might also like" widget after a post. For example, if there's a post with the tag, "book", it suggests other posts with the same tag. Anyone know how to do this? I've looked in the widgets and in the template designer and can't find it. TIA! Never mind, I found it. Linkwithin
  5. Yep. Flu. DH started hurling at 11:00. LLL spent the night curled up on the bathroom floor, afraid to go to bed because she was so nauseated, though she never threw up. I feel like I have been hit by a bus. BLAH!
  6. :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: I have a new favorite exclamation!!!!
  7. So what flu is going around NOVA? LLL woke up at 5:15 this morning whimpering, saying her head hurt. She had a fever of 102. Blah. I'm staggering Ibuprofin and Tylenol. Her fever returns before either dosage is due. I'm am SO TIRED of sickness! Now I'm feeling yucky and have a slight fever. Is this the flu or just another random bug?
  8. HA! I happily learned that one in advance, too, so when PDG said, "Look! There's Captain Jack! Can I watch Torchwood?" I was able to intercept the PS3 controller.
  9. Yes please! I'm making some right now, but it's the same-old-same-old I always make. Looking for a new spin!
  10. NO! Lots of course language and serious themes. Decidedly grown-up.
  11. UGHHH! Yes! LLL is sick today with a fever of 102 and should be in bed, or at least on the couch resting, but NOOOOO, she keeps coming into the office. Not that I don't love having her around, but I need to get stuff done so I'm in here, and she needs to be resting. Even when she's not sick, she is so underfoot that I'm afraid I'm going to turn around one day, trip over her and mush her.
  12. Love it! But kind of put it on hold when DH and I discovered new Battlestar Galactica on Netflix. I'm only on Season 2.
  13. Oooh, yes, coffee CAN be sexy! :) We love our French press... It's nice when you just want a cup or two of high quality coffee without doing the whole coffeemaker thing. We have a Bodum. One thing that I have learned that really helps bring out the flavor is to make sure AFTER you pour in your water that you stir it vigorously until the "crema" appears -- it's that foamy layer on the top of the coffee. Here are really good instructions.
  14. Smiling Bob (Cialis). AAACK! We don't have cable, just broadcast from a digital antenna and Netflix. I really don't miss cable. At all. We went and saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader yesterday. A decidedly family film, wouldn't you say? They had a preview for Beastly, which although looks intriguing for a much more mature audience, FREAKED OUT my girls.
  15. What is considered parboiled for baby red potatoes? Still firm? outside 1/4 inch soft? Thanks!
  16. Have fun! But prepare to become obsessed. Once you start, you won't want to stop.
  17. You have Netflix? If so, here it is. The girls have an "ice day" off today, and are actually watching "The Parting of the Ways" right now :)
  18. My DH watched the second episode with me last night. He actually said, "This is really good!" That's a first time that's come out of his mouth in reference to a costume drama.
  19. We use regular natural cheddar for homemade grilled cheese. I have to admit, though, that there are times when a good old grilled cheese made from Kraft singles just hits the spot :)
  20. Crumbled goat cheese is great mixed into ground turkey patties with favorite fresh herbs, a bit of worcestershire and perhaps some chopped green onion. Gruyere is yummy in bacon-based quiche Smoked gouda for snacking Really good super sharp cheddar just 'cuz :) Blue cheese for salads with vinaigrette or homemade blue cheese dressing We always have parmesan or romano on hand Fresh mozzarella for pizza
  21. For the first rise I use air-tight rectangular Snapware containers so that I can judge the rise accurately. For the shaped rise: for rustic loaves, I dust with either flour or semolina, and I drape with a tea towel ecause I want to encourage a good skin. Over tender loaves I mist with olive oil (using my handy-dandy Misto) and lightly drape with plastic wrap, or place inside of a large food-grade quality plastic bag.
  22. This is so neat! Thanks for sharing. Not to hijack, but here's another cool artistic Star Wars item.
