  1. She'll be using the large flat rate boxes. Thanks for forwarding that website. It'll give her an idea of what to include.
  2. DD will be sending military care packages overseas and wondered if she can include Barbisol shaving cream. She was told at the post office not to send anything aerosol... Any advice would be appreciated!
  3. We prefer something like this very basic garlic press. When we lived in Rome, this is what they sold for a simple press. So we bought a few before we left, and I still have an unopened extra in the drawer.
  4. I'd like to offer these RightStart fraction webinars as a resource. Maybe you can find a nugget in there to help him along. Scroll down for the fractions drop-down option. :grouphug: and GL!!
  5. We have a Whirlpool, but when it dies, we're going Bosch if I can find a local repairman. My FIL's Bosch is so quiet!
  6. This happens to me when I have a carb heavy meal, (not  ) affectionately called 'carb coma', and I cannot keep my eyes open. I don't like it so I avoid it as best as I can.
  7. Members since 1997, but report only starts in 2006. DH also uses the account for work purchases, mostly books. 1414 items worth a nice car... :w00t: :svengo:
  8. We use this inexpensive Holmes air purifier for the fan noise only and take the back filter off for a louder sound. We have them in each bedroom and take it in vacation to block out unfamiliar noises. They're great for dorm rooms too.
  9. How about Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier? I loved this book as a teen/YA. It's not sunny but a real page turner.
  10. How about a Lego Technic set for a remote control, motorized vehicle? They are pricey, but fun. You can also buy the components, the motors (Power Functions) and remotes/receivers, for him to create his own thing, and it's cheaper than a set.
  11. I've never heard of Studio Ghibli and can't wait to check it out. Thanks!! They've played a few from Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and would probably like more since they recognize the tunes.
  12. DH is 6'3" and long in the torso. Fords always seem to have the best head room for him. ETA: And, yes, we always buy to fit him even when we might like another vehicle generally better since he's our long-distance driver. ETA2: We had a Ford Escort for years, and he had to lean the car seat back quite a bit, but he fit. I called it his clown car. :smilielol5: He kinda folded out of it. Good times...
  13. Oh, those look nice! I'm intrigued by the Star Wars book by Dan Coates. I'll have to investigate all his offerings. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the ideas!! I'll take a look at Elkund's work. And, we've used musicnotes.com with success. Thanks for the reminder.
  15. I'm looking for piano music book suggestions for my late intermediate level piano players. Maybe something along the lines of Disney, movie tunes, jazzy numbers, other recognizable tunes, etc.--a book you continually think is a treasure trove of good music, and would be fun for my kids to pick up and play. There are so many options out there any help narrowing things down would be great. TIA!!
  16. We have a small, one-cook, dine-in kitchen. We have a solid, double pedestal table with a L-shaped bench around two sides (fits into a corner) and chairs around the outside two sides. When the kids needed a high chair, we used an older version of this clip-on, space saving high chair that takes up minimal space (1 place) at the head of the table and no ground space--made a world of difference--and easy to sweep under. It comes on and off easily and can be flattened for easy storage or travel. The table has to be solid because kids do bounce around and you want your table to stay put. We can get 7 people around our table. If we added a bench on the outside long side, which we didn't, we'd be able to get in another body. I also make sure that any chairs we put around the table are low-backed so we don't hit our elbows and fit flush to the table, giving the illusion of more space. ETA: Ours was more like this one that wipes down easily.
  17. How about these hi-waisted skinny jeggings (they really do look like jeans) from American Eagle? Don't let the skinny legs of the model throw you off. My DD wears them and looks great, and she has extra in the waist, behind, and legs. Go with the dark wash "deep sea blue". ETA: Read through some of the comments to get a good idea about sizing.
  18. For the gravy, you could crockpot some chicken thighs ahead of time, de-bone the chicken for chicken salad or whatever, make the gravy from the broth, freeze, and re-heat the day of in a small crockpot. Sort of like the turkey wing idea, but you can actually use the chicken for something else and the broth/drippings is/are "gravy". :smilielol5:
  19. Actually, I was just told by a seasoned cook that you can roast your turkey ahead of time, slice it, put it in a freezer container, cover the turkey slices completely with the broth/leavings from its cooking, and freeze. Defrost and warm throughout before serving. She tried boxed/canned chicken broth, but it turned out tasting funny. She specifically said it had to be the broth from the turkey. I suppose you could heat it in the oven/crockpot, pour off some broth before serving, and make a quick gravy. I've never tried it, but...
  20. Wow! Ok, it's much slower going here. Something to definitely consider as we move forward... Thanks!!
  21. Thank you for this thread! And, thanks, Sebastian, for your tips. Dd is coming to the end of pre-A, and it's taken two years to work through the book at a moderate pace, year-round, about an hour/day. I also "worry" it'll take too much time in her high school schedule to continue with the sequence. Can anyone speak to the pacing coming from the pre-A text to the Intro text? I realize the pre-A text has a few more chapters, but still...
  22. Wonderful! Thank you! Hopefully she can figure it out on her end. Weird business...
  23. I noticed that pre-Algebra fence straddler thread becoming inaccessible due to being part of a private group when it had previously been available to everyone. It's an important thread that I hope gets fixed for general viewing.
