  1. Thank you for taking the time to write out your lengthy response!! As you can image, it's an overwhelming journey, and I thank you for giving a starting point. He is in 4th grade and reading at a 1st grade level but improving, and, subsequently, behind in math and his other subjects. Currently, he is pulled out of his regular classes for 3 hours/day to work on his speech. A friend of mine mentioned Barton, and I found, after a quick WTM forum search, more information on PROMPTS therapy. She says it's not a vision translation issue, that they've had lots of testing (she wasn't specific), and it's just speech which bleeds into other subjects.
  2. I have an acquaintance whose son has some learning disabilities due to Speech Apraxia and is behind in school. With a full time job, Mom is unable to home school him, but she is looking for options to help her son through after-schooling. Any ideas? Resources?
  3. DD12 loves to get Caribou or Starbucks gift cards. She likes the super flavored coffees (pumpkin spice latte :drool5: ) and hot chocolate.
  4. I hope to get to the Met. Yeah, Central Park looks huge. Hmmm...I didn't think about walking the Brooklyn Bridge...something to consider. So much to do, so little time...
  5. Unfortunately (or fortunately ;-) ) the kids won't be with us this trip.
  6. We love Italian! We lived in Rome for a few years back in the day so Italian holds a special place for us. Seems I heard about Katz's deli while listening/watching Jim Gaffigan. DH would love a place like this. Might have to add it to the list. Cheesecake is one of my favorites, and I wouldn't want to miss a good slice while I'm in NYC. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we'll make it as far north as the Bronx in our weekend, but will have to keep it in mind for another visit. We will definitely have to get a slice of pizza! Isn't that like a written rule...must get a slice while in NYC...lol! Thanks for all your wonderful recommendations!!
  7. Good point. Let's try somewhere else...
  8. This is what we're thinking... So, 3 full days (Fri., Sat., Sun.), maybe 1/2 day on Thursday. If we work in half day blocks, then that leaves us with about 7 main things to do...2 being shows, 1 or 2 walking tours (need to get St. Patrick's Cathedral in on one), the Met, and 2 other thing (maybe Statue of Liberty, etc.). The Roosevelt listed above may be a little more than we'd like to spend, but we may decide proximity to the heart of NYC might be worth it. All airline tickets I've seen has us flying into New Jersey. Hotel recommendations are welcomed. Re: food. We feel like any good vacation needs good food options. However, we don't need great for every meal, so a few really good food recommendations would be appreciated. A good pizza shop, a fabulous sandwich, a few nice dinner options (not gourmet/fancy, reasonably priced). Ethnic is fine, nothing too spicy, no dietary restrictions. We're not into shopping, although we might have to duck into Dylan's Candy to buy something for the kids.
  9. lol...so true! Thanks! I've been floating the idea by DH for years, and he's finally interested.
  10. All good points. Since we're planners by nature, my guess is we'll buy most tickets before we go so we don't have to spend time in lines. If we go in November, the Rockettes Christmas sounds wonderful.
  11. Oh...maybe we'll do Carnegie. That sounds nice... Like the advice upthread, I'll have to see what's playing the weekend we go. And, a central location would be nice....
  12. Thanks for these reminders! Luckily I'm not usually one to over plan. I like the idea of a walking tour. My guess is we'll fly in on Thursday afternoon and leave on Sunday or Monday.
  13. DH and I would like to do a long weekend in New York City either later this fall or next spring. We've never visited before so we are looking for some recommendations, ideas and/or tips. We'd like to take in an on or off broadway production, maybe see the Rockettes, see some sites, go to a few great restaurants (very open to ethnic) and the Met...you get the picture. At this point we are gathering info. in order to decide what we'd like to do considering it will only be for a long weekend. Any information you can throw our way would be very appreciated!!
  14. :thumbup1: They're not hard to make, and it's cool to see what you can create. Have fun with your new tangent!! ;)
  15. Or you can try hand dyed silk scarves. DD makes them for herself and selling. She buys these from Dharma Trading and dyes them with art tissue paper from Dick Blick. There are online tutorials to explain the application how-to with a water and vinegar solution and then drying in the dryer for about 5 minutes to set the colors. Happy creating!!
  16. How about The Storied Life of AJ Fikry? He deals with death and grieving, but also shows how he comes through it.
  17. You may want to start with RightStart's Fraction Kit for a quick review of the basics in fractions and then move on to something like Key To. RS has that hands on element that you are looking for and would be good for a kinesthetic learner. The way RS lays out their fraction chart makes comparing fractions and understanding simplifying more intuitive, and RS really builds a good foundation for further fraction study.
  18. I'll also say the Cavalier King. Our neighbor has one, and she is the sweetest dog I've ever met. Very friendly, doesn't bark much, gentle, small, and cute.
  19. This is a very interesting thread for me! OP, I'm hoping I can insert something... I'm very curious to know...If anyone would like to respond (maybe an ETA to your original post?), I'd like to also know if amount of sleep affects your weight. So, do you get a regular 8ish hours of sleep, and if so, are you earlier to bed and earlier to rise, or not?
  20. Heartland - Canadian series, seasons 1-6 on Netflix, season 7-9 google sites for free episodes
  21. Conway it is! Booked a hotel right off of 40 on 64. Thanks to all who helped me decide!
  22. If you need something easy, you could buy those frozen mini eclairs, cream puffs, and/or mini cheesecakes. My DH loves the eclairs and cream puffs.
  23. Thanks! Conway may be a real possibility. Yes, we're coming down 40.
  24. I'll be coming in from the north-west and going south-east, so Northern Little Rock looks convenient. It looks like the McCain exit is only a few exits after the 30/65 split from 40. How is the area right near North Little Rock High School? There is a Best Western Suites (right off of JFK Blvd) that looks like it might work--it's right before the split. It also looks fairly close to Krogers and the McCain area... West LR may be a bit out of the way, but Maumelle might be an option.
  25. If you know the Little Rock AR area, can you tell me in what neighborhoods I should look for a hotel for the night? We'll be heading south on I-40 to 30 and then to 530, so something easy access to these interstates and kid friendly would be best. TIA!
