  1. I've learned that if I want to get any teaching done I have to throw away the computer :001_smile: Seriously. . .thanks OP for a sharing your thoughts!
  2. Since we're enjoying religious topics lately ;) I'll add a PC experience I will never forget. . . It was 9/14/01 and I was in a hotel room in Moscow watching the gathering (it was most definitely not a church service) at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of the gathering was, except maybe in such dire circumstances (9/11) some people felt the need to conduct a religious ceremony. I remember when the hymn "A Mighty Fortress" started to be sung. That is one of my most favorite Christian hymns. I have it memorized. Imagine my surprise when the choir got to verse 2 and left it out completely, skipped it, went right on to verses 3 and 4. Now maybe you can call me cynical, but I believe that it was removed in order to abide by the rules of "political correctness"."Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He". Talk about alienation! It seems like more and more it is acceptable to talk about God/god/goddess/insert other deity here _________, but make sure the name of Jesus isn't uttered. It's not polite, right, kind, politically correct? ETA: I do NOT mean people on these boards! I haven't seen that here. That whole gathering was an abomination to the Lord (but that's fodder for another thread!). I believe it would be better leave things unsaid (or unsung) than to cleverly change words around to change the meaning (and be PC). A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God's own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabbaoth, his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God's truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.
  3. King David was an adulterer and a murderer. Moses murdered a man. Whichever disciple sliced the ear off of the soldier in Gethsemane was a murderer in his heart (do you really believe he was just going for an ear!) Jeffrey Dahmer was a murderer and was murdered himself. It is recorded that he repented and trusted in Christ for his salvation. I think we will see many, many folks in heaven who murdered (physically) and we will not be surprised at all. It won't be their repentance that saved them, but God's grace through Christ Jesus.
  4. Albert Mohler talked about this on his blog recently (March 10, 2009) http://www.albertmohler.com/blog.php?selectMonth=03&selectYear=2009
  5. I'm sorry, more Wiki. . . I guess I could post it on the "contact with unbelievers" thread, too! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Tares
  6. Okay, I am not trying to freak you out anymore than you already are . . . Did it ever occur to you that the phone call could have been a fake one and he was testing your daughter to see how she would react when taken away from you and your husband? Or perhaps he was testing how long it would take one of you to go searching for her? Maybe I watch AMW too much, but I'm trying to help you stay safe. PLEASE listen to the others here. DO NO LET YOUR CHILD OUT OF YOUR SIGHT (or ARMS) around this man. And I agree with a PP--Do not let anyone else hold her b/c they may let him take her. And the next time he may take her into his car! Do not worry about hurting this man's feelings. If he is innocent (and you end up explaining your position) he will be extremely understanding. If he isn't understanding, you don't want him holding your child, b/c if he doesn't "get it" maybe some day while he's holding her a weirdo will grab her away from him! You wouldn't be able to trust that he would do the right thing. I am praying for the safety of your precious dd.
  7. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond . I appreciate all of your answers and read them all. My favorite quote is from Greta . . . Hmmm. . . :iagree: Have a great day tomorrow whatever your religion :001_smile: !
  8. I'll just cut to the chase since it's almost 11 p.m. and I have to get up at 4 a.m. to go on a trip :glare: I have been following most of the Christian/atheist/insert your religion here __________ discussions and find them very interesting. First, I keep thinking about non-Christians who say they admire or appreciate certain things about Jesus. If you are such a person 1) I would like to know where you get your information about Jesus (history books, the Bible, other?), and 2) will you specifically name something that you admire/appreciate? I guess I am assuming that if you admire the teaching of someone you believe that specific "lesson" to be good and true. Second, the reason Jesus was condemned to die on the cross was because he claimed to be God. Is it possible to admire someone for part of their teachings and at the same time believe they are lying about another teaching? Third, I am not trying to convert anyone! Now it's ten past eleven!
  9. We don't do anything more special than any other Sunday except spend extra time and meals with family and in-laws. I agree it is wonderful to have a full church, but personally I feel sad when I think of all the churches that are over-flowing as you said "a couple times a year". I will just leave it at that since it is off-topic.
  10. Maybe one of those folks who work for a foreclosure company? Maybe the alarm went off b/c the strange man touched something?
  11. Mr. Duncan is on the cover of World Magazine this week. www.worldmag.com
  12. We don't ever watch horror/scary shows or movies. Once you see something you can never un-see it, not matter how hard you try. There are enough scary things in real life; I don't have to go looking for more!
  13. Jane, doe you use rolled oats or quick oats for that recipe?
  14. Yes, very interesting topic. I saw a special about this on Dateline a few years ago. Here's one man's experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvwTSEwVBfc and a little off topic. . . . I have a friend who once was in a diabetic coma and crossed-over, so to speak, before she was told to go back. She told me that she saw many beautiful colors that "don't exist" here. I still can't wrap my mind around that, but I totally believe her!
  15. You can buy a cookbook that has 100% nightshade free recipes here: http://noarthritis.com/cookbook.htm I cannot eat the nightshades. Well, I CAN eat them, I just pay for it with extreme stiffness and pain in all my joints, so I understand your husband's avoidance. I love sweet potatoes, too. They can be prepared in so many delicious ways. You are a sweet wife to look for new recipes for him! I wish you much success.
  16. Good job! Keep going! Imagine how you'll feel next year at this time.
  17. We moved to Indianan in Jan. '08 to take care of my elderly in-laws. We tried renting our house in MI, but it was not a good experience. As much as we were hoping to move back there someday, we've decided to sell it. Thank you for your prayers.
