  1. me too! by the way Google Shopping stinks - I used it yesterday (7/21) and it showed a bogus price of $88 at Walmart but did not show that Amazon price.
  2. Looking for a deal this summer! Please PM if you see this item on sale < $100 thanks
  3. I borrowed a copy of the Thinkwell Precalc book which maps to the course. Sometimes the "Algebraic" content is less in depth than other Precalc books I own.
  4. http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/how-to-program-computer-science-concepts-and-python-exercises.html On sale now
  5. No the CloverCreek course is solid. Physical science courses tend to be a survey of topics from multiple sciences.
  6. Student sleeps in the car on the way there? My teenager could do this :)
  7. For his major what math courses does he need to take?
  8. For an 8th or 9th grader, CP is a good book to base a course on with a follow-up Physics course later in HS.
  9. I do NOT recommend overlapping in math unless your student is a true genius. The sequences were created for a reason that works for most students.
  10. Our local public school districts AP = 5.0 and honors = 4.5. It is a reward for the students willing to take more challenging courses. On the other hand, the state universities want both weighted and un-weighted GPAs.
  11. The CB will approve your syllabus but they can not verify you actually followed it. Most B&M schools have good syllabi for their AP courses but teacher X does not follow it and the students get less than what was "offered" to them.
  12. Holt 2007 and Thinkwell Geo are very similar in content and rigor both are OK IMHO - The TE edition will have answers to all the problems not just the odds. It also has some lesson plan stuff etc. The Holt should have plenty of problems in the text book including spiral problems. I don't think you would need more. The videos are organized by chapter and section so this is done for you. For what topics to cover you may want to look at the Thinkwell syllabus. Holt probably will not have these: "Printable geometry worksheets and answer keys for each subchapter and topic". These will be less "proofy" then some other Geometry programs but unless your student is interested in majoring in math I think they are adequate.
  13. How useful/important is learning the elementary row operations/augmented matrix method for finding the inverse of a 3X3 matrix? Brown Precalc book circa 2003 shows 2X2 with determinants method and says 3X3 and higher is for computers. I think I agree after attempting a row operations walk-through with DS and getting wrapped around my axel. In the end I just went here and did the "Show details" choice: http://www.math.odu.edu/~bogacki/cgi-bin/lat.cgi :coolgleamA: I stated that the important part is setting up the matrices and the computer will do the tedious parts for you. What do y'all think?
  14. I would say almost everyone here prefers that approach for learning. Even the smaller sized online classes usually mentioned here just have you scan the paper to PDF. We are also doing an ALEKS based College Algebra course (totally online answering and grading) and DS uses scratch paper then types it in the required math format (slow and tedious). I do some of the problems myself. The graphing stuff is quite bad. Kahn, ALEKS, and such are better for review IMHO.
  15. What format are the USB stick videos? MP4? Important if the OP does not like computer displays.
  16. Standard TV DVD for a full math course is probably hard to find these days. Thinkwell and others have moved to streaming online videos only. For some videos, you could use Chromecast or similar to move the display from the computer to your TV. We do that for Youtube stuff. Other devices and some TVs can broadcast the video directly from a USB stick. Good luck
  17. ? Never heard of AP Calc BC going beyond Calc 2 content in a semester based school (maybe a quarter based school). Many medium to higher rated colleges don't like to place out students from Calc 2 unless they received a 5 on the BC exam.
  18. That's a Calculus topic?? Precalc level vectors are fine. I just covered that with DS this summer.
  19. Start light with a Python based course for this year - lot's of free or cheap stuff out there.
  20. He doesn't like learning new languages and I did not push it. It's his life. (I took five years of French) Colleges forcing second languages will be crossed off. He will survive. I think if they started students here in AZ with some Spanish at the Elementary level then he may have felt different now.
  21. "Now, a majority of science items require a careful reading of the passage, making it much harder to skip the passage and jump to the questions, a strategy that, in the past, has helped students manage the time demands of the section" I hope that they cut the total number of science questions by a few to even this out.
  22. DS took two years of Spanish (to check the box). Future Engineer or Scientist
