  1. My son uses the block but my daughter doesn't. But they are expensive. Our local homeschool store always has used sets. You might try that route or ebay.
  2. We love Artlier. http://www.homeschoolart.com/ My kids love it. It comes with a dvd and the lady on the dvd teaches the lesson. We have had a great time with this program. We only have the first level but hope to get the next with out tax money. Also, it is cheaper to buy the art supplies it calls for at Walmart (especially at school supply time) or Hobby Lobby. Their art kits are really expensive for what you get.
  3. I don't know if this is a homeschool thing or not but the other day my 6 year old asked me a question. I told him I didn't know and he told me "Then why don't you just Google it?":)
  4. We you MUS and love it. I have one in Gamma, one in Alpha and one in Primer.
  5. I haven't used this but my friend does. She loves it. It is to expensive for us. http://www.homeschools.org/ My friends daughters have been using this company for years.
  6. We did 100 easy lessons when our 6 year old was learning to read but our 4 year old would have nothing to do with it. So, we are doing HOP Kindergarten. He loves it and is really going through it fast! I was at Fry's electronics this morning. I don't know if you all have those where you live but they had each grade level for only $24.99 and with a mail in rebate of $15.99! So, I went ahead and picked up the 1st grade one. I should have went ahead and got the other levels!:)
  7. We have used the History Pockets and Literature Pockets and my kids love them. I haven't used them to supplement anything. Just for something fun. My kids love crafts and any kind of projects. These don't take a lot of set up time. That is the reason why I like them so much.
  8. I started Weight Watchers on my own the first of October. I lost 10 lbs from then until Christmas. Luckily, I didn't gain it back at Christmas. A friend of mine and I joined Weight Watchers and started going to the meetings the first of January. I am down 8.8 since Jan. 1st. I have a long way to go but so far so good. I love Weight Watchers! I never thought I would enjoy the meetings but I really have. Checking in here will give me another little push to stay on track!:)
  9. We go to the one in Arlington, Tx. It is $5 if you pre register and $10 at the door. The first time we went my husband and I both just stood in the doorway and just stared at all the people and booths! We were so overwhelmed! But we learned a lot!:) We never knew so many people homeschooled and those were just the ones that went to the convention!:) I love to go and hear the speakers. And dream about all the stuff I would buy if I was rich!:) It is a fun time.
  10. We just started using this with my 6 1/2 year old son. He loves it. He can read most of the books himself. We have started to make lapbooks using the resources at http://www.homeschoolshare.com. Lots of fun. He can read pretty good but it is not his favorite thing to do. I started this as a way to see if I could get him excited about reading. Hope your kiddos enjoy it!:)
  11. I added ours up and for all three kids it will only be $270. I am a very thrifty mama. I am reusing as many things as I can. I only have to buy stuff for my oldest and middle. They will be doing the same history, science, and Latin. So, that helps cut down our costs. We also get free piano lessons. I haven't decided if I will put the two older in Latin class or not. If so, that would be almost another $80 a month. I am hoping to do it all on my own. We will see!:)
  12. I have started to use their stuff for BFIAR and FIAR. My kiddos are loving it!
  13. We are hoping to pick up our involvement with my husband's family. They have always lived to far to travel to very often but my mother in law has finally moved only 4 hours away. So we are hoping that we will start getting to more events. I have felt bad when we couldn't afford to travel. I do think our relationship has suffered because of it. I can't wait to start having my kids getting to know their cousins better.
  14. I started mine just as a log of what we are doing so that grandparents and other relatives could look in on what we are doing. I have really enjoyed doing Wordless Wednesdays and Weekly Reports. Lots of fun. Through those I have made quite a few friends and have had lots of fun.
  15. We don't have a "school room". Right now everything is in our living room. Which I really don't mind. We have a very small house and we don't entertain very often so it has never been an issue. The kids each have a desk in our living room to do their work seat work. We do all of our reading on the couch. I wouldn't mind having a room just for school but it would have to have a comfy couch to read on. Some day we will have a grown up house and have something like that but not anytime soon!:)
  16. We have been dealing with this with our youngest for years. We started speech therapy with our now almost 5 year old when he was 20 months and not talking. They tested his hearing and said he could hear fine. He has never had an ear infection in his life but he could still not talk clearly. He would only grunt. He is now talking but no one outside the family can understand him. He goes to speech therapy 2 times a week and we are hoping he won't have to go anymore after this school year. He is currently going to one of the public schools for therapy because we can't afford private speech therapy but will not qualify for these service once he becomes old enough for kindergarten. But the ps should be able to give him an evaluation for free. At least that is how it is in Texas.
  17. Here is a post I did about our living room/school room. http://carrhomeschool.blogspot.com/2008/01/livingroomschoolroom.html :)
  18. I am pretty sure we are going to buy it. I am very interested. I want to look at the sample pages first. Just to see what it is really like. I know that writing is one area we are slacking in and would love to fix.
  19. I love our art program. Atelier http://www.homeschoolart.com/ It is so easy to do and the kids love it. HTH Lori:)
