  1. My son is 11. We practiced with regular M&Ms. He now takes pills with ease which is a good thing as he takes daily medicine. With my 9 year old who still gags, I have him close his eyes and I feed him apple sauce which he is to swallow without chewing. In one of the spoonfuls, I'll put the pill in the middle of the applesauce. He usually swallows the pill without a problem that way. I need to buy M&Ms so I can begin practicing with him. HTH
  2. I'm so sorry that your dd is sick. Please let us know how she is doing.
  3. I'm not sure he was guilty either. Just allegations can really hurt someones reputation and life and people use allegations all the time to try and get what they want. A friend's brother was accused by his 10 year old step-daughter because she was "mad" at him. She also made threats against her bio-father to get him to do what she wanted. The accusations put my friend's brother's life on hold for a couple of years....even though there was no proof and she didn't want to continue with her charges..the police did.
  4. Here is a link to the Mythbuster episode to which Melissa was referring. http://www.tv.com/mythbusters/seasickness---kill-or-cure/episode/553083/recap.html
  5. I found myself laughing at parts of both of them. At the same time, it is scary that some people are so hostile to the whole idea of homeschooling. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/opinion/orl-edpmyword-home-schooling-052609052609may26,0,7990688.story http://teacherrevised.org/2009/05/30/the-case-against-homeschooling/
  6. I was at Bush Gardens, Tampa yesterday. Strollers everywhere even on the parking trams. Have a good trip!
  7. Congratulations! Boys are great. It is a good thing that I think so as I have 3. ;)
  8. Thank you for answering this question and the additional links!
  9. I received my order of Megawords on Saturday and spent some time reading the teacher's manual about the theory and steps of Megawords. I'm a little confused on how I'm supposed to schedule the pages and how long each lesson should take. Could someone tell me how they use it and how it works for them? Thanks for the help in advance!
  10. In my linguistics class in college, it was said that a child could learn up to 3 languages at the same time and not get them confused. They were speaking about a young child learning them naturally, not with a grammar focused approach. You may want to keep the Latin as grammar focused and have a conversational approach with Spanish adding the grammar a bit later. This is just a thought with no real experience to back it up. I think that kids can do a lot more then we usually ask of them.
  11. We also listen to them in the car...over and over again. The boys will often ask me to turn on History especially for longer car rides.
  12. In November I drove back up to Illinois from the Tampa area with our three boys. I drove 12 hours the first day and it wasn't bad at all. I'm an early bird so I had the car parked the night before and we drove from 6 in the morning till 6:00 in the evening, stopped at a hotel with a pool so the kids could swim and get their energy out. We left later the next day and reached home by 3:00 in the afternoon for a 20 to 22 hour trip. The second day was harder because they were more tired of being stuck in the car and I had a three year old at the time. Your kids are older so you should be fine. We did listen to books on tape....mostly The Story of the World. :)
  13. Breaking Dawn resolves a lot of the issues you raised. I didn't picture or understand Bella lusting after Jacob. I thought that she just had a deep love for him... a mixture of brotherly and friendship love with a bit of attraction (not lust) thrown in. I had a friend like that in college where maybe it could have turned into something more but it never did. If he hadn't have been in my life, I would have missed out on so much and I would say that I loved him. Anyway back to your question, definately finish the series.
  14. Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed the first chapter and think that I'd really enjoy reading the whole series again from Edward's point of view.
  15. I too read The Host trying to keeps some of the Twilight haze going. It took me longer to get into the book and I didn't need to read it every waking moment but eventually I learned to enjoy and understand the characters. In the final analysis, it was a good book.
  16. My son is ADHD just attention issues no (limited) hyperactivity. I was against medicine so I tried to treat with natural methods. It didn't work for us. Finally, last spring when he was 10 1/2 we tried medicine. His reading, his speech and his short term memory, all of which he was getting outside help with, improved dramatically. It was such a dramatic difference that I started beating myself up about not trying the medicine sooner especially since my husband had wanted me to. I'd get the diagnosis just so I knew what my options were and to keep my frustrations in check.
  17. Definitely! I read all the books twice, waited for the movie and am thinking about reading them for a third time while I wait for New Moon to be released in the theaters. I don't know why I was and am so enthralled with Bella's life.
  18. That makes sense and it would also placate the fans who didn't want Jacob to be changed. The Twilight Jacob wasn't / isn't developed or tall enough to fit the Jacob of my imagination.
  19. It doesn't appear to have happened. There are / were pictures that someone took during the filming of New Moon. It appears to be the same Jacob but he has really bulked up! Must be lifting lots of weights to fit his developing character.
  20. Thanks!!! I'm enjoying it and I'm sure my boys will once I show it to them. ;)
