  1. If you do decide to do so, the odds are huge that you will never see that money again, even if the relative is close to you and even when they are on their feet financially and even if you have it in writing that they will pay you back. If you can take the hit and you want to help, go ahead, but don't expect to get paid back.
  2. After our 2nd, dh had a vasectomy and THEN we became convicted the other way, that we should have let God decide for us. Sadly, we have had neither insurance or funds for a reversal since then and biologically my time is running out. I get teary these days as my youngest is 7 and growing so fast and I think, wow, I only have 6 years left with hsing my oldest and see....now i am crying again. Oh well.
  3. Its the age, really. Get sticky hugs from your little one and cry into his hair while you read those picture books to him. Thats what I do when I get hurt by the older one. Her I assign penmanship practice in her room.
  4. We use them regardless of what history curriculum we are using. I actually don't care for her written materials but have listened to the cds with SOTW and now with MOH. I have been known to just pop them in when we are knitting and on car trips too. Her style is delightful. I WOULD listen to the samples on the website first, there are some people who find her incredible annoying. Unfathomable. :D
  5. We school year round too and after reading the laws I came up with this that I write in our Letter Of Intent... - Our home school program will meet or exceed the standards of structured learning time as defined in 603 CMR 27.02. I refuse to agree or submit anything saying we will school the 180 days Ma requires because that is for the PS. I also don't want to be snotty and say that almost every day 365 we are doing something because it isn't any of their business KWIM? Hope that helps
  6. We have read them aloud and dd 7 has read them alone repeatedly. They are charming.
  7. I miss safe Saturday mornings. Anyone remember Janna of the Jungle? I loved that one too.
  8. Sorry you caught flack, I have always loved your posts and point of view. (((KC)) :D
  9. Johnny Quest The Fantastic Four Little House on the Prairie (only the 1st 4 seasons though, once they adopt the boy they lost me). The Waltons seasons one and two only. (after that there is adultery and such) The African Queen is a huge favorite. We went through the entire Stargate SG1 series, which I only has to edit three times. It is one of our very favorite things to watch. The Incredible Mister Limpet. Anne of Green Gables The Railway Children Prince Valiant Errol Flynn movies Masterpiece Theater's Pollyanna
  10. I can't help it, anything LOTR makes me smile. Not that that little cutie you have now isn't adorable mind you, it is just I think karenciavo post and the wisdom of the ages of Galadrial just sort of melds with it. Oh well, not about me. my bad
  11. What is the title of the book about the ships? I am not so much a Horatio Hornblower fan but I have been reading the Bernard Cornwell books about the Napoleonic wars (and drooling over the dvd versions with Sean Bean). We have a snow day so the kids will be outside all day and I can read to my hearts content!! Hurrah!
  12. I do so love the prose, parts of Churchill just beg to be read aloud. It is as pleasing to the tongue as a good red wine. When reading with the kids I do have a stack of reference material so we can ask and answer those types of questions that come up. I wish I could write a guide but as much as I am a history addict and an organizing fiend, I am under-qualified for sure to do so. I just bought a copy of Van Loon at a bookstore that was going out of business, I can't wait. I also was able to snag Churchill's 6 volume WWII set. He is such a joy to read and a true product of his times. Hey, I know, YOU write one and I will be your first customer!
  13. Is there such a thing as a study guide for this set? I own it and love it but thought something along the lines of a study guide would be helpful when I read it with my dd. TIA
  14. It is called "Talk to the Hand" subtitled " The Utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today, or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door" It is a delight.:D
  15. We do things in much the same manner. We have families with 6 little ones and families with 1 little one. Always babies are a gift and always the families are assisted. The little small needs are so constantly filled by and for each other in a way that blesses both the party in need and the person helping out. Our Pastor promotes unity as a church body and having servant's hearts and we are blessed to have most of the church body truly love each other. The church body is supposed to reflect our relationship with Jesus. I am sorry that you are having struggles in yours.
  16. Just curious, why are you doing the Stanford this year and Iowas the following year? I wanted to switch to Iowas but we have been doing the Stanfords since first. I had the impression that if we switched, it wouldn't tell me anything useful until I had another year of the same test to compare it to, KWIM?
  17. When our dc got older we began doing tag team reading with our read alouds and it has been a great joy for our family.
  18. This was one of the most helpful posts for helping me plan high school. The resources I was able to find, especially those lining up with resources I had already planned on using, are amazing. For example, Campbell's Biology was recommended for an AP course, and I found a whole AP course on line that uses it! Thanks so much.
  19. And the rest of the Dandylion series is wonderful as well. Also a lot less pricey than some of the others.
  20. I am walking with a friend in 8 minutes. We stopped over the holidays, then there were illnesses, then blizzards, sleet, rain, and hurricane force winds, oh and the day it was -10 with a -20 wind chill last week. So I gained back the 10 lbs I lost and I am MAD. I don't want to walk but I am sick of being overweight too!! UNITE, we can do this!:p
