  1. The Next American Hero Classics are all on it as are the Royal Diaries. Dear America's are in there and, oh Pendamonium is a huge hit here.
  2. No matter what we are using for history we always include her cds. I have never used her written materials but I think she is fabulous. My older dd's comment the first time we listened to volume 1 was, "Mom, she cracks herself up a lot". I told her it was just because Mrs. Waring was so enthusiastic about her subject that is just bubbles out.:D
  3. Way before I was teaching her to read. I did Prima with her orally in K right along with teaching her to read. I don't know how to say this, she likes sounds? She enjoys the way things sound. A word or phrase that catches her attention will be repeated, thoughtfully and often, sometimes for days. So she loves saying the prayers and such. She is 7 now and in 1st but reading at an 8th grade level so I don't think learning Latin first or alongside did any harm. But, every child is different and wonderful with their own strengths and talents so that was just our experience with Latin and English for a non reader at the same time. :)
  4. I have been thinking a great deal about middle and high school too and I think I have planned at least middle school well. Your schedule looks great to me but maybe a little heavy on Language Arts? We do IEW as well and when I wanted to add something like General Science and a public speaking course, I knew something would have to go. We are dropping grammar, spelling and vocabulary as separate subjects for 7th. I bought an old Warriner's handbook in case we need it. I would rather study and learn Latin and drop English grammar for now than not have Latin. I am not expressing myself well today, (sigh) but there are some great posts and articles on using Latin as vocabulary and grammar. So, for what it's worth, here is our 7th The Thinking Toolbox Apologia General Science with Live and Learn lapbook Latin Prep 2 Lightening Literature 7 Lial's Basic College Math Ancients with her sister SOTW and Human Odyssey American History with Landmarks and IEW theme based lessons Advanced Public Speaking IEW co-op guitar and children's choir
  5. We have read it along with SOTW twice now. I don't worry about plugging in chapters to match it up or anything. We often have 2 or 3 "spine" type books going at once. It is nice to have a different perspective and by doing so I have had the joy of watching the connections between stories "kick in" so to speak. We also read the Gueber books along with SOTW and loved those too.
  6. For elementary we loved Magic School Bus and Newton's workshop. I just either plugged them in to whatever I was using or we just watch them for fun. (over and over and over) At 11 and 7 they still love Newton's Workshop.
  7. We had used Rod and Staff through 4th. I hated Saxon in school so I didn't even consider it. I made the switch to Christian Light Education math and while it is still not her favorite subject, I have seen her actually smile doing it. You can write directly in the workbooks, it is fairly self teaching, and there is a little bit of a lot of different things in each lessons. It is never too much and I don't have to tweak it at all. It is quite rigorous and thorough.
  8. Training Hearts Teaching Minds http://www.timberdoodle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=558
  9. it is a devotional that goes through the Westminster Shorter Catechism. We are really enjoying it.
  10. For patience? The huge tub of ready to eat Philadelphia Cream Cheese cheesecake filling!!! Here, sending a virtual spoonful.
  11. I just had to go to a trash bag to keep them all in! I am absolutely certain I will find the mate to some of them!
  12. The Thinking Toolbox Training Hearts Teaching Minds Lial’s Basic College Math 5th edition Lightening Literature and Warriner’s English Grammar (978-0153117367) Latin Prep Book 2. American Sign Language ( God willing the classes we are in now will continue) World History 1: Creation to the Fall of Rome I was going to move into Reformation and Early Colonial because that's where we are but she wanted to do SOTW with her little sister so I will juice it up with Speilvogel’s Human Odyssey because I already own it. American History Using still The Artner Reader’s Guide to American History we are moving into 1946 to present day. All we have been doing is reading the Landmark books chronologically but I think I will add in the odd composition using IEW's US History Theme based Lessons Volume 2. Apologia General Science with Live and Learn's lapbook Fine Arts Continuing studies in vocals, piano and worship guitar as well as music theory. We will also be using Art, A World History, DK Publishing and art projects relating to our studies in history. I also have a few misc materials for composer, artist and hymn studies. still using Typing Instructor Deluxe
  13. Seriously though, my parents used to give us a bit of sugared whiskey. I think the plan was to numb the throat to ease the cough, I think it just knocked us on our rears and we were able to sleep. We used to do the same thing for teething, rub some whiskey on the gums. Any excuse to keep some Jameson's in the house. ;)
  14. Shakespeare resources http://absoluteshakespeare.com/ the name of the website covers it all, start here for sure http://www.folger.edu/template.cfm?cid=588 Folger Shakespeare Library’s kids site, wonderful and full of activities http://shakespeare.palomar.edu/ “To be an annotated guide to the scholarly Shakespeare resources available on the Internet. Admittedly, some of the resources are not so scholarly, but that's as may be. Usefulness to students (in the broadest sense) is most often the guiding principle. The truly un-scholarly sites are linked on the "Other" Sites page. With respect to current performances, a very popular feature is a listing of Shakespeare Festivals. To present unique Shakespeare material unavailable elsewhere on the Internet. “ http://www.bardweb.net/ “Welcome! Thank you for visiting the Shakespeare Resource Center. You'll find here collected links from all over the World Wide Web to help you find information on William Shakespeare. There are millions of pages that reference Shakespeare on the Internet. This site aims to make it a little easier to find your sources.â€
  15. And I have been grateful reading everyone's posts knowing I am not alone. So I just have to say.... What the heck is it about pre-teen girls??????? As I recently saw, probably here, "one of us us going to survive this day and it is going to be ME":
  16. How their father and I spend it will benefit the family as a whole. Paying off more bills is our intent. (But I really, really, want a portable dvd player that plays mp3s for me, I really do)
  17. I do make back-up copies of my own purchased cds in case anything happens to the original but I always thought it was a form of stealing to copy something someone else paid for? KWIM?
  18. My dd had a massive case of strep and we didnt even know it (we were at the Dr.'s for something else) My throat has been agonizing for a week and my strep test was negative! Try hosing down your throat with Cloroseptic, and gargle warm salt water. That is all that helped here. Hope you are feeling better soon.
