  1. I would wait. I have made this mistake myself...thinking I was was TOTALLY set on something...only to change my mind later...or the program was tweaked slightly, or I found a Great used deal....I would wait. There is no reason to rush into it.
  2. in my opinion when a preschool is marketed toward 2-3 year olds and is in conjunction with a daycare...it is a way to make parents not feel guilty about putting their babies in an institution...afterall, it is now "school"....it's "good for them"...right??? Preschool does the very thing you did with your baby...colors, shapes, numbers ABC's....but you just do it in the comfort of your own home and your baby got to spend that time with you instead of a stranger.
  3. our home is very much like the OP. Even with healthy snacks, I still limit what they eat...otherwise my kids would eat fruit, yogurt, and cheese sticks until they were full and then when supper of meat, potatoes and veggies came...they wouldn't eat that...so yes, I do limit snacks and when they do get pop at home, it's organic pop...and on the RARE occasion they will ge Sprite or something like that at Pizza Hut or something....I limit the High Frutose Corn Syrup and MSG and food dyes...and my son (especially) who has sensory issues has improved...but they all have improved...in both behavior and over all health.
  4. as weird as it may seem, every spring I place mothballs in my tulip garden and the bunnies have NEVER bothered them since....they did before. I have read that coffe beans do the same...but I have never tried this.
  5. We have always had a routine at bedtime in our home (we have tweeked it some as the kids grow), but we have always had a routine...and we have really never had a problem with any of our kids at bedtime. We have a 9,8 and 5 year old...here is our basic routine....supper at 6:15ish....right after supper, PJ's on and teeth are brushed. Daddy will often read to them until about 7:30-7:45. Then all 3 go upstairs for prayers. Then our daughter (9) goes to her room, Matthew (8) goes to our room to read and Nathan (5) stays in the the boy's room...he looks at books until 8...then lights out....Matthew until 8:20 (then he goes to his bed) and Hannah reads until 8:45-9:00...On the occasion that Daddy reads longer, then we adjust accordingly. This has worked like a charm...we have never had nights of endless excuses or kids never staying in their beds, etc. ope this helps...a little. One thing I believe that there should not be TV before bed (except on occasion), no crazy playing before bed...just quiet, winding down time.
  6. I found it very teacher intensive and we dropped it pretty fast. But I know others really LOVE it...
  7. I did that...and the only option that I see is to view my wish list...not a button to add to the list.
  8. I must be blind, but can someone tell me how to add items to the wish list? thanks. Kathy
  9. thanks for the great ideas....I never want to overdo the baskets and take the focus off Christ and put it on the goodies...but a basket of goodies are always fun too. Kathy
  10. What do you put in your kid's Easter Baskets??
  11. I started making a short list of things my kids must complete by the end of the week...things to be done at their own time...things they cross off the list on their own....things like reading certain pages out a book, baking something, building something out of legos, a certain art project, write letter to grandma, etc...and I was wondering if it would be "not right" of me to add....do a random act of kindness for someone outside our family. What do you think....asking the kids to do this...when it should come "naturally"? What do you think???
  12. is this what you are referring to??? Natural Factors N-Acetyl-L Cysteine -- 500 mg - 90 Capsules - Vitacost
  13. I need some creative ways to give door prizes to a small group of ladies. We have, in the past, done the sticker under the chair or dinner plate....but I am looking for something different. We have even done the "whoever has the most_____ in your purse" idea. So give me something different PLEASE!!! Kathy
  14. We like these at our home...very cute...Dragon Books. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_12...
  15. I have always wondered...can you use an air pump like the one you would use for camping air matresses? Those are smaller than a vacuum and we always have our with us.
  16. OH, I didn't realize this...thanks for telling me how this works. I REALLY appreciate it. Kathy
  17. Would it be helpful to you to have your items in the Rainbow Resource shopping cart last longer than one visit? I know it would, me. I am going to email Rainbow Resource and suggest this to them, and I wanted to know if I was alone or in good company. Thanks.
  18. The flying saucer is the most fun piece in the whole set...until it gets broken (like it did here...) and to replace it...well, someone posted a place to do it...the piece is .50, but the shipping is like $10...or more...so unless you need or want more...to replace it is expensive.
  19. When I was going to college to become a teacher, I was TOTALLY against it. Later when I became a wife and a mom, my husband was ALL for it, and I thought it was fine for others but NOT for me...and then BAM...out of the blue, something hit me and one little thought about us homeschooling entered my mind and I couldn't get it out...and so now...here we are.
  20. oh come on you creative minds....PLEASE (I am begging here!!!) help me!!!!!!!!!
  21. I know it is a tad early to be talking about graduation gifts, but I need the help of those who have great creative brain cells (of which I am not one of these people)... we have some very special friends whose first born child (daughter) is graduating from High School in May. I don't want to just get her any gift, but something super special. If it helps, she LOVES books, History and great literature. But she is a very well rounded young gal...not girly at all...and I am just at a loss as to ideas. So, if anybody can help me, I would be grateful!!! Kathy
  22. We use Singapore now, but I started with MUS and the way they explained it made A LOT of sense to my kids...I'll do my best to explain it... there are 3 houses on decimal street...the units house, the tens house and the hundreds house. So if you have the problem 392 - 74 = _____ first I used the base 10 blocks to put the right number of pieces in the right houses....then I would ask, can you take 4 units away from 2 units? No...so then we have to go next door and ask if we can have some visitors today....so "knock knock, Knock...number 10, number 10 can one of you come and play today?"...so then one 10 comes and plays...but only units (or ones) can play in our house, so we need to change the 10 block to 10 units or ones. So, now how many units or ones are here? 12...so now can we take 4 from 12? yes...then..we go to the 10's house...how many are there now? 8 tens...so can we take 8 from 8, yes...can we take 0 hundreds from 3? Yes... did that make a little bit of sense???
  23. this is a great idea, except I have tried this and as soon as I am gone...so is he...off to play with toys etc....or he will just sit there and do nothing until I come back.
