  1. Homschooling was actually my husband's idea and when he first brought it up (when our first born was of preschool age) I totally shut him down...I had a 3 year old and a baby...and there was NO WAY I was going to homeschool...so we sent Hannah to preschool...then to Kinder...then to 1st and even to 2nd...her brother followed and went to school through part of 1st grade...then all of a sudden the homeschooling idea came back to my head and I couldn't stop thinking about it...so we pulled our kids at Christmas last year. like many of the gals here, my DH us supportive, but not overly involved. I am a teacher by trade, so when it comes to the "teacher decisions" they are all mine...he has NO CLUE!!! If I need him to help me with something, he is willing to. He has been known to quiz the kids with flashcards, spelling words...listen to them read and other similar things...he loves to visit over supper about their History or Science lesson too. So, he is "hand's off", but supportive.
  2. my first born child (a girl) was that way from the very MOMENT she was born....in the hospital she would scream if anybody looked at her, touched her, picked her up....that is, unless it was me....I ws just thankful she was my 1st born...I could give her the attention she demanded... Hang in there...it is TOUGH!!! Kathy
  3. we just started using Growing with Grammar and loving it. It seems very systematic and sensible.
  4. Do you guys use a certain book or books to reach this or is this something that just sort of happens in various conversations at your home? I have a 9, 8 and 5 year old and we have never really touched the subject and I was just sort of wondering what happens at your home.
  5. I generally encourage my 3yo to use tiny nubs of crayons/chalk (I hide the new crayons LOL) b/c that forces him to practice drawing with a tripod grasp. My 4yo uses stetro grips about 1/2 the time. crayola now makes triangle shaped crayons...tht would help with the tripod grip too, yes??
  6. Does anybody else have infor on this. I am using range free eggs and and I thought they were to be safe to eat raw...am I wrong??
  7. I don't have any suggestions...but I was wondering if you had stories for the names you have picked for your other 7 children?? Oh, by they way...you are one amazing gal to be able to have 8 children under the age of 10...WOW...I admire you!!!
  8. I really want to start making this from scratch, but I don't know how long it will stay fresh in the fridge....does anybody here know...that will determine how much I make at once...also, I have one recipe, but would be interested in seeing others....so if you have one that you like, can you share?? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. My little guy had a weird pencil grip until I bought those silly little pencil grip things at Wal-Mart at the beginning of the school year. I don't know if they have them now, but I am sure any school supply store will have them all year round. It helped a ton!
  10. Consider taking a book A and B, dividing the two by 12 and seeing how much you have to cover per month. HTH this would be a good idea if we were starting Singapore at the beginning of the year...but since we are starting right now, I was just trying to gauage about how much I should be doing a day/week. I took my 2 big kids (2nd and 3rd graders) back to 2A...just so they would get used to the way Singapore does math and my little guy (K) is starting in 1A becasue he was mostly through Saxon 1 until now. thanks for your ideas.
  11. OK...if I am thinking this through correctly...since each parent brought 1 child...then for each pair the tickets sales are $10...so then you take the total sales of $12,680 divide that by $10 to get 1,268 people...is that right???
  12. How much of a lesson do you do in a day....just one exercise from whatever unit you are on...or more than that??
  13. what yahoo boards are you on and what is vegsource?
  14. I would think this is a good price...especially for a 2008 edition. We own a much older set and my kids love using them...in my opinion having the books in their hands is much better than looking on line for information...so I applaud you for looking into buying books.
  15. does anybody else use another forum for selling???
  16. Bid on Penny Auctions. BidCactus.com has anybody here used this...is it for real?? Is it safe???
  17. Besides here on the "For Sale" board and the "Homeschool Classifieds"...where else do you guys post your items for sale???
  18. hmm....now I don't know what to do. I can't really afford the OvaCue and I can't expect to be able to take my tempurature every morning before getting up becasue I often end up getting up to deal with one of the kids first thing...so I know that wouldn't work...and the whole mucus thing...YUCK!!! I tried that too, when we were trying to GET pregnant. Not my cup of tea...that is why I thought the test strips might be the best way for me. I have found places on line that sell the test strips at a decent price...cheaper than my pills. But, I have wondered how accurate they are. Hmmm....UGH!!
  19. So did you just start using them about a week before you thought you would ovulate?? I am on the pill right now and want to get off, but scared to becasue I DO NOT want to get pregnant...I am 43 and the thought of that scares me....
  20. Has anyone here used ovulation predictor kits as a birth control method with sucess?
  21. DO I need these? Do you give tests?? I a placing my order today, so I am trying to tie up all of the loose ends.
