  1. So did you just start using them about a week before you thought you would ovulate?? I am on the pill right now and want to get off, but scared to becasue I DO NOT want to get pregnant...I am 43 and the thought of that scares me....
  2. Has anyone here used ovulation predictor kits as a birth control method with sucess?
  3. DO I need these? Do you give tests?? I a placing my order today, so I am trying to tie up all of the loose ends.
  4. that sounds cool...if not, someone needs to invent one and make a million....get those creative juices flowing gals!!!!
  5. can you explain how this works?? Kathy
  6. Do you give actual spelling tests at the end of the week??
  7. just go to Singaporemath.com and you will find a link to the placement tests.
  8. thanks for this...I appreciate it. Kathy
  9. is the Home Instruction Guide for Singapore Math? A friend of mine has the textbooks and the workbooks that I can look at, and they look very self explanatory, but I didn't know if the HIG had a lot of information that would be needed...opinions please?
  10. So it sounds like the majority of you guys feel that going into 1A would be just fine...so I guess that is what I will do. Thanks.
  11. are you guys all tired of my singapore questions? I am sorry...I will be purchasing in the next day or two...then the questions will stop.
  12. Has anybody had 2 kids, a year and a grade level apart, but needed to use the same curriculum (my 9 year old tested the same as my 8 year old on Singapore math) and I am a little nervous about putting them in the same book when she knows she should be in a higher level. Any suggestions on handling this? Kathy
  13. Thanks ladies for being patient with my constant flow of Singapore questions and for giving me awesome answers. On another thread I was informed that there were different placement tests for the US and the Standard books...I was using the US tests, but wanting consider the Standard books instead. So I retested my kids today...my 5 year old who is about 2/3 of the way through the Saxon 1 book didn't do so well with the 1A test of Singapore. And there isn't a test for the Kinder level...so I am trying to decide whether to start him at level 1A or take him back to the B book of the Kinder level. The sample pages of the Kinder level look pretty easy...but there might be some skills or at least some terms that might not be familiar to him...but I didn't want to buy the whole kit (text, workbook and HIG) if we will fly through it in 2 weeks...can anybody here guide me as to what to do next? I am consdiering buying only the workbook of the Kinder level...but I don't know if that is smart or not. Kathy
  14. I am so with you on this one. I just read an article where they were saying that children's ability to speak correct grammar has completely gone to pot becasue they all text now and we all know that good grammar is not used there. I can not come up with any GOOD reason why a child would need a cell phone until they are at least to the age of driving and driving alone (without an adult). We will be living like we live in the dark ages...no phone, no TV in bedrooms, no cell phones, no ipods (for a while yet....I don't want my kids plugged in and checked out), etc.
  15. I have rarely used the guides myself. Like it was said, to give the tests they are helpful...but I have also just made up the information needed for the tests...I think if you look at the tests, I think you'll see what I mean.
  16. I am so glad you mentioned that....I never noticed that and we plan to buy the standards edition...thanks!!!!!!!!
  17. thanks for the link too...that was super helpful!! Kathy
  18. I am looking for the best price...I have looked at Rainbow resource, Singapore's site, CBD and Amazon. Is there any other place I should look to compare prices? Also, for you who have used this curriculum, if there are any manipulatives I need to buy, what would they be? Kathy
  19. it does help to know I am not alone. thanks. What are you considering?
  20. Started with MUS. Really liked the program and how everything was explained, but I felt that I was wasting too much of it because there were 6 pages for each lesson and we were only doing 2-3. And the kids were too overwhelmed by the number of pages for each lesson. Then I changed to Math on the Level. the concept of making the math fit your kid was appealing but the process was WAY too over whelming for me. We are now doing Saxon Math. At first it was working well, but my kids need more of the same problem before learning the next one. I thought the variety would be great, but it wasn't. So, now I am searching again...so tell me...is it me or the curriculums or my kids or what?????
  21. did you find that going back to 2B too easy and thus boring...or was it different enough that it stayed interesting enough?
  22. I am giving my kids the placement tests today, just to see where they might fall in the curriculum...but they are stmbling over the lingo...they might understand the concept, but not in the way that it is presented...is it fair for me to help them or will that influence the outcome of the tests in a bad way?
  23. as a former teacher...busy work is just that....work to keep the kids busy....knowing full well they didn't need the practice, but in order to keep the kids under control and to be able to help those who needed the extra help, you give the other kids "busywork" so they don't cause trouble. Is that HORRIBLE??? I hate to admit I did that when I was teaching, but that is what they teach you to do in order to keep control of your classroom of 25+ kids. Review to me is a quick way to see what has been retained or what needs to be retaught...it has a specific educational purpose. Did that help?
  24. why is this such a difficult thing?? I have literally used 3 different Math curriculums since starting homeschooling a little over a year ago and I just haven't found one that we actually can make work for us. Is the problem me or the curriculums??? the closest Office Depot (we don't have any other office store) to us is 45 miles away...but I suppose that would be a possiblity...UGH...
