  1. Yes. His family is at the hospital with him, which in the current circumstances is unfortunately not good news. He may have an advance directive about what treatment he wants. He is not in the ICU. Ftr, he was not raising money for the NHS, which is tax funded. It was for an associated charity that offers wellbeing support to staff and patients. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52758683
  2. Interesting. In the UK there are no photos. You just state that the house is in good repair.
  3. Yes. You have many people trying to source a scarce commodity. We have the scarce commodity being offered selectively dose-by-dose to the people most at risk. The offer is mostly by post at present, as the cohort is very old and not necessarily able to use a computer or a phone.
  4. What's the role of primary care physicians in this? They hold the records here and are able to ensure that they vaccinate the most vulnerable.
  5. The following plus others decided individually by their own doctors
  6. The UK list is based strictly on preventing death. I believe the first four categories will have been offered vaccination by the middle of February. ETA: I'm in group 8; my husband is in group 7. That's fine.
  7. I didn't realise the categories in some states were so broad. The UK has gone in the other direction - extremely narrow sequential categories, and inviting people individually to come in. My 65 yo brother won't be called in for some weeks, but all nursing home residents have now been offered vaccination, as well as - I believe - most over eighties.
  8. The UK has vaccinated about 50 percent more people than the US by head of population. Almost one percent of the UK population was vaccinated on Saturday alone. It's the one thing we seem to have gotten organised, probably because the NHS structures were already in place. This graph is clearer than some news sources. https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations Eta this is a fun article https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jan/31/industralised-vaccine-behind-scenes-at-newcastle-covid-operation?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
  9. I haven't seen that in the UK. Just coffee shops and restaurants, even though alcohol is sold in the shop. You may be able to buy a beer in the restaurant, but I don't know.
  10. All are welcome, whether you are just thinking about being more active or already have an established routine.
  11. It's been a fun month, with starting running again. My knees seem to be holding up so far. I'm resting for a few days to let my tight calf recover and I'm still doing hands free yoga. But I'll get there.
  12. The way I heard the vaccine process described - the normal process is like driving through heavy traffic across a big city. This process had a police escort and all the lights on green. The route was just the same, all the junctions were cleared, but the usual time wasters - lack of money, corporate and governmental unwillingness to risk putting money into facilities early, etc - were removed.
  13. Speaking gently, isn't 'forgettable' part of the point? Neat, attractive, elegant - sure. But shouldn't 'memorable' be for the bride?
  14. There are also cultural differences by area. My style of giving opinions seemed rude and oppositional to my MIL.
  15. I hope things are okay. Reconsidering ones focus is always a good idea. I've taken helpful board breaks in the past. I'm happy to start the thread, but anyone else can step in if I forget.
  16. I don't know if this might help, but when we moved across the world, we were advised to put together a physical photo album full of photos of China. It allowed us to have a focus for mourning, and to fix those things in the past.
  17. Flu almost wiped out in the UK https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hygiene-and-immunity-leave-flu-germs-with-nowhere-to-go-xxdb65klt
  18. I like 3 and 6. Slightly more understated might be good on this occasion.
  19. We need some good news Vaccine Rollout Gives U.K. a Rare Win in Battling Pandemic https://nyti.ms/3r4Mj3E
  20. Oh, Strava got a bit confused this evening when I was cooking.
  21. I think you need a new word. Not wimp, for sure. Sensible self preservation? That's what we call a Blondie day - imitating the excellent relaxation skills displayed by our 14yo dog. Running this evening. The tides were not ideal and the sand was a bit soft. My calf cramped up but I managed to complete the session. It's 9pm and I have retired to bed with my recovery placebos of choice (@Monica_in_Switzerland) - a big mug of rooibos, a hot water bottle and a detective novel. Have great weekends!
  22. Johnson and Johnson vaccine works, but less well in South Africa Johnson & Johnson’s Vaccine Offers Strong Protection but Fuels Concern About Variants https://nyti.ms/3takfh6
  23. I had an incipient crease back there. It seems to have gone. I'm not noticeably thinner than I was, so presumably it is due to some combination of yoga and Nordic walking.
