  1. About 2 minutes if he drives, maybe 15 if he walks. We live just down the street from the community college.
  2. :iagree:Yes! bras were the only ones I used this last time around. And they are inexpensive!
  3. Can I sneak a question in your thread too? :D I'm wondering how many of the meals (from any plan) call for being smothered in cheese (or use dairy). Not all of us here can eat dairy, so that cuts out about half the recipes I come across lol
  4. These are the ones I got, I'm happy enough with them (haven't had any issue with them not sealing well or anything)... http://www.mybinding.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/2070/5MIL-Letter-Size-9-x-11.5-Laminating-Pouches-100pk These are also the only pouches I've used, so I don't have anything to compare them to. As for 5mil or 3mil....it just depends on how stiff you want it. Cards I'd probably want to keep fairly stiff so they hold up to having a rubberband around them or just daily use. There are a lot of things I have laminated though that all I needed was to protect it from grubby fingers, crinkling, etc. The 5mil is probably overkill for that. I prefer to get letter size. Some of it gets wasted when I don't fill an entire pouch, but for me its just easier to buy one size in a larger quantity and cut it to fit. Sometimes I just hold onto a few things that need laminating until I can fill up a pouch (most of the time, that isn't a problem lol).
  5. Did anyone mention Denny's? It's not too bad - decent food, inexpensive.
  6. I just recently got into trying fondant cakes. My suggestion would be, before joining classes and all that, just set her loose with a cake mix (something dense), buttercream frosting mix, gumpaste, some fondant and a can of crisco :D I used marshmallow fondant (cheap and tastes much better!), just google for the recipe. I did have to buy some Wilton supplies though - very large rolling pin, fondant mat to roll it out on, smoothing tool, and fun stuff like ribbon and shape cutters (I'd check Hobby Lobby or Michaels). You can find a lot of videos on youtube, or by searching google on using fondant and gumpaste. Here is the first fondant cake I made...not perfect, but for a first try it turned out pretty nice (it matched her birthday dress).
  7. I was a teen mom. So that's what causes teen pregnancy! I did play with those dolls that do "stuff" as a little girl....that must have been it! I was a bf'ing teen mom though, bottlefed as a baby :D I like the concept of the breastfed doll, but the halter creeps me out.
  8. I don't think there is a double meaning to that shirt. I think its cute :tongue_smilie:
  9. I tried MFW and found the grass wasn't greener  (for me anyway). Right now we are using TOG and the thing I like best is that there is SO much scheduled that I have options for what we do in a particular week (I felt like the options in MFW were limited - but that works better for some). A big part of it for us was that I was starting ECC with an older child and there just wasn't enough oomph to the science for my dd. I really enjoyed the Bible portion of MFW though :)
  10. Extra water, oatmeal, and alfalfa tablets always worked for me.
  11. We get Barleans Omega Swirl at the healthfood store (in the refrigerated section). Looks like you can buy it online too. We got the lemon flavor. The kids love it! It really does taste like a smoothie or treat.
  12. This site isn't exactly what you are looking for, but it is an excellent resource for nutritional information... www.nutritiondata.com
  13. I'm not Paula, but I'll answer your questions :D I love this little machine! The machine just punches holes. There are different configurations though (not that the machine does, it only does one, but different machines). This one has a 32 hole 3:1 pitch so you would need to use the proclick spines or spirals with a 3:1 pitch. If you use a spiral (which are plastic too), you just spiral it through the holes by hand. You have to have some way to bend the ends though (heated needle nose pliers? or special pliers for the job - I got some of these and they don't work that great [or maybe that's me? lol]). If you use the proclick, you open it (by hand or with the little zip tool), lay the papers in, and close it. This is where I got my machine & spines http://www.mybinding.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/242/GBC-ProClick-P50-32-Hole-Paper-Punch
  14. That sounds about right for an upcoming 2nd grader to test into 1a. I'd say that R&S is probably doing a fine job :) Since you will be starting at the beginning with 1a, you probably shouldn't have too much trouble getting used to how Singapore works (it would be a different story jumping in at 5 or 6). If you are interested in trying it, I would try along with R&S as a supplement.
  15. Glad I could help! If you still can't access it tomorrow, just let me know and I can copy & paste it. :)
  16. How exciting! :D My ds just recently finished HS and I have felt so lost trying to find another program to use with him. I will definitely be signing him up when it comes out!
  17. Try this link A lot of times you can find archived versions of a page at archive.org (if the link above doesn't work, just put the URL you found to the review in the "waybackmachine" on archive.org).
  18. Well, I guess one could say that....but all I said was that your son was probably well prepared for R&S 5 having gone through 3 & 4. :001_huh: I felt your post was a tad rude (and you acknowledged it could be taken that way by adding "I can tell I'm gonna regret this one..."). Anyhoo.... If you are very strong in grammar, 5 will probably be a good fit. Sadly, my public education did not serve me well in the grammar department :tongue_smilie: R&S also has a few workbooks that will help solidify the basics that might be helpful - http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/item/129-3/?list=Rod_and_Staff_Remedial_English
  19. Is he intact? If the connective tissues were damaged at all, it might take a little longer to heal (and I don't think you would see any outward sign of something like that). Other than that, if there was no bruising or anything, and he's pee'ing just fine, I wouldn't think there would be any lasting damage. Poor little guy.
  20. A great thing about homeschool is you can customize and do what works :D For me, stopping at times to play games or watch Schoolhouse Rock would totally throw us off. It works better for me to work a level lower, a little more relaxed (relaxed as in lets do this lesson orally today) and still keep learning new material. It also means we can take what we like from different programs :D I really like Classical Writing....but I also really like R&S grammar. So using both works great for us. I would be doing it whether my dd was using R&S 4 or 7. I guess that is one thing I see differently. We are working below grade level in R&S, but I don't feel the need to fly through it. Its very relaxed. We just go at a comfortable speed (sometimes it goes quickly because we only need to touch on a topic lightly). I don't worry about getting "on grade level" either. I figure we've got time to get through ALL of the grammar R&S has to offer, so it works for us (and if you take into consideration the public schools here, she is on grade level! lol).
  21. Your son was probably very well prepared for R&S 5 after going through 3 and 4. We tried R&S 5 at the beginning of 5th grade and decided to go down to 4. There is definitely a difference if you don't already have R&S 3 & 4 under the belt.
  22. I'd start with 4. If there are parts that are way too easy, just move quickly, do some orally, etc. And if you find him struggling with 4, even starting at 3 would not be a bad thing. If you kept with R&S English through high school, you could still get through 8 - that is a LOT more than most kids get through high school (its certainly more than I ever got!). We are almost in the same situation as you. My dd is in 6th grade this year. We pulled her out at the very end of 4th, so her 5th grade year was a learning experience (for both of us). We are just finishing up R&S 4 and will be working on R&S 5 this year. edited to add.. I was thinking about it, and I'm not sure I'd want to be that far behind with writing. So if you start in a lower level for the grammar, you may want to use an additional writing program.
  23. :iagree:I could have written that myself (TOG workbook and all lol).
  24. Look at bookshelfcentral.com - they have it on sale for $56.
  25. Mine would have to be a used snowman Christmas ornament (grime in the creases, paint was used to cover previous name). It was for our wedding.....in June.
