  1. On some forms you can get rid of your status, "Honey Making Bee", etc.. and write something more meaningful as a self-descriptor; posts counts are still tracked and remain the primary qualifier for the length of time and commitment level to the forums. Is this possible to do in this on this forum?
  2. I would never get rid of picture books, but my DD9 refused to let me read them to her last year. She has been reading chapter books since she was five. Conversely, my DD7 (July birthday) will likely allow me to read them to her forever, or that's what I am hoping for! She has not yet progressed to reading chapter books and definitely needs pictures as prompts to assist her in moving her way through the book.
  3. Am I doing something wrong related to posting my daughter's work? Does she have to be using WWS, Brave Writer, or IEW to receive feedback? :bored:
  4. My question would be...Did you switch genres? My DD's non-fiction, report style writing is amazing, compared to her fiction writing which is disjointed and odd. I also agree with non-transferable writing traits, it would be ideal for your student to be able to write in any circumstances, using any program.
  5. Just looked at Scholaric...completely in love! :drool5:
  6. I used to live off Ella Blvd on what we called "Flight Attendant" row...lol
  7. I was getting ready to mention Golden Books, because we had all of the Christian Goldens when I was a child. I still remember those pictures and how safe those beautiful stories made me feel.
  8. House without a Christmas Tree - Hands down favorite Norman Rockwell Christmas Book - Close contender The Pokey Little Puppy's First Christmas - Golden Book First Christmas - Golden Book
  9. I like what others have said about pertussis and mold. Also, I am guessing they have done a x-ray (can't remember if I read that)? My daughter had a cough that just bothered me (and I wasn't the sort to be bothered)...hers unfortunately was related to something more serious. Have they done a cbc w/ dif? and YES, if you read my threads related to illness I ALWAYS ask about this test, because it does tell us A LOT about what is going on with our bodies - my second favorite is a sed rate. ;o) :biggrinjester:
  10. I guess since I have spent a bit of time around the medical community I would point blank ask the doctor what the reason for the prescription was, what he was considering for differential diagnosis (hypothyroidism, testosterone deficiency, lymphoma) request at minimum a CBC w/ Dif, Thyroid Panel, and an MHP (male hormone panel). You could basically just call this a comprehensive panel, though I am not sure if they would include the MHP. If I had any questions I would put a call into the nurse at clinic, state you concerns and ask for the doctor to get back with you. I would start taking any drug I had concerns about until I was sure why it was being prescribed. All that being said...IF my husband came home and said he was going to start taking BUSPAR, which would be difficult for most men to admit. If he didn't seem to have concerns I would fully support him. You never know what he feels comfortable talking about with his doctor. I would be honest about my thoughts...still I would support him. - Just read down a bit more, so they DID the tests? Are the results back? If you don't feel comfortable with the doc don't be afraid to see someone else. I would NOT like a doctor telling me I WAS feeling one way, when I was stating that I wasn't feeling that way at all. It seems like she isn't listening. Also, if its not depression/anxiety there are faster acting/short term use prescriptive she could have given.
  11. Looking for feedback on my daughter's writing. Please feel free to edit at will. Its an adventure novel...I guess? Prologue Knights verged upon the tree in which came to be the Vate’s house. The knights ignited the base of the tree and the flames elevated. Declan was babysitting Chloe, for her parents were not there the night of the annihilation. Chloe screamed in abhorrence as smoke filled her lungs in distressing manner that caused her to cough consistently .Declan ran shouting, “Chloe!†fearful that she was harmed. Then he too sensed the smoke and yelled “Chloe get over her†he peeked out the window to assure position of the enemies. Suddenly their level caught flame. An ignited piece of wood hovered over Chloe ;she covered her head and screamed before Declan shoved his hand in front of the wood and shouted higheige. He moved his hand shifting the blazed wood toward the window, with the movement of his hand he shattered the window.as the flaring wood went through he clenched his hand into a fist and the spell broke;the wood doped and ignited two knights they screamed in agony. Once he was aware of the guards’ position he instructed, “go through the back door and find mom. Then exhort her of the house†“But where will you beâ€, Chloe questioned “All be fineâ€, he insisted with a kind voice. â€now go†Chloe absconded as instructed, but a knight ensnared her and tried to put killing curse to her. the knight ensorcelled “intridaâ€, instead Declan knocked her out of the way and became bewitched of curse instead he faded and vanished. Chloe's mother,Kelly came to Chloe and took her in her arms but Chloe showed no joy and she pointed to the shadow figure that killed Declan. “He killed duckyâ€, she sobbed and pointed You could feel the fierce emotion just by looking at her eyes she shaped in to a unicorn and such force came of her horn that you could see blue waves repeating to strike the knights. The knights denigrated and Kelly returned to her human form once more. She then realized that the queen’s army was too strong and Chloe was not safe anymore, so she sent her to a place where mists were safe the willow valley. Suddenly, a miracle stroke and Declan started to reform. This is after a first minor edit, typically Sarah will require several edits before getting a final copy. We consider the first edit still sloppy copy. We send our documents back and forth using google docs comments.
  12. We have been using Aleks successfully, but are now starting to hit some bigger questions in Pre-Algebra (we're about 60 percent of the way through) - I have been supplementing with AOPS videos which I LOVE. What is CLE? I was pretty set on using AOPS, but perhaps we need to think about other curriculum; worksheets are out.
  13. Subbing for info...sounds interesting, I use Homeschool Planner Basic on my PC
  14. For those of you using Spencerian penmanship, what pens are you using? I have been looking at the Pilot double nib & and the Kurve x450 a standard nib, both are 1.5 What's working for you?
  15. I like the idea of downloading to IPAD (even though I have a different sort of tablet) do they come in an app format, or is it a doc you convert to form, what program are you using to completely the worksheets on the IPAD?
  16. I would look for an android device that is google certified, 1.2 processor or faster, no less than 4 gigs w/ expansion to 32, flash able, multi-touch screen (captive NOT resistive). Gingerbread or higher (Cupcake is the latest and I believe it has already been through a revision or two) I am not an Apple fan due to their limitations with flash based sites... Nook Tablet (not to be confused with color) is one I would recommend, a Nook Color can be rooted, but that takes some doing and you do need to be a bit tech savvy. I love Kindle, but had the flimsy version w/ special offers and found it to be far to fragile for everyday use and lugging around. An IPAD is a bit sturdier, Nook even more so, and some of the mobile generic tablets are about on par. The Le Pan II is one that I had been watching for a while, but I settled for an HP Tablet that opens in both Android and Window formats.
  17. Panni Maker hands down...easiest best little gadget I have ever invested in. This saves my life when I don't want to make cold sandwiches, and don't have the energy for hot sandwiches on the stove. Which in the winter is about once a week!
  18. Well, it depends exactly where you are going to live. We bought a home between Osceola, Appleton, and Rockville. We loved where we were, but the house was full of wood scorpions; this would be my only complaint of our rural home. The town of Springfield is actually about an hour away from our old stomping grounds. I can't say that it would be the right place for my family now (and we grew up in Missouri), but if you are a mostly conservative human being then Springfield is a GREAT option with enough creature comforts to keep anyone sane, plentiful midwifes /birth center, hospital, schools, malls, fast food, oodles of churchs (take your pick). The one thing that does resonate with me were too many strip malls (which I hate). I am the type of person who needs either complete isolation or a booming metropolitan area like St.Louis, Chicago, or Madison; Springfield is a little too much in-between.
