  1. Well so far I'm just following ds and seeing his friends' stuff. Mostly what teenagers like. SMH.
  2. I just set up an account to follow ds. So you just post pictures and wait for people to like it? It feels like being forced to watch vacation slides. I feel so old.

    Ugly Pie

If you have extra pie crust, cut out shapes, bake, and stick them on top of your pie.
  4. Friends of ours gave their son the middle name Steadfast.
  5. Could you offer to pick up the cake on Monday and then freeze it yourself?
  6. I used some free patterns from Burdastyle in the past. I just saved to my desktop and printed them at home. You have to tape them together according to the page markings. It was really easy.
  7. Some more I remembered: If Lucy Fell Map of the Human Heart Stranger Than Fiction
  8. I lost my microwave granola bar recipe. Anybody have a good one that uses up old granola?
  9. I loved Once. Thanks for reminding me - need to see it again!
  10. Babette's Feast Cinema Paradiso Earth Girls are Easy with Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum
  11. Alice in Wonderland Through the Looking Glass The Princess and the Goblin The Mysterious Benedict Society series Roald Dahl books Ramona series by Beverly Cleary
  12. My 4 year old loves the Brownie and Pearl series by Cynthia Rylant.
  13. Wow. If I paid $170 and got books in that condition, I'd be livid. I expect fair pricing and if the books were listed at a higher price, I would expect better condition even if it wasn't stated in the description. I guess I'm being naive to assume the seller would make an honest assessment of what they are selling.
  14. Yes, I love my house - but we lived in a lot of houses before we bought this one. It's an older home with real rooms! We didn't want an open layout but many rooms with a purpose. It's only 2100 sf but we have 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. With 7 people living in the house, we can close a door and get some privacy.
  15. IDK, my parents were really strict about most things but when it came to food and drinks they were pretty lax. I was allowed sips of wine and beer from an early age and as a teenager my favorite drink was Sarasoda which had a little bit of alcohol in it. Yum, yum, I wish it was still around. Now, I hardly ever drink. I don't like beer and will have a glass of wine 1 or 2 times a year just to be social, and usually I don't finish the glass. Maybe because it wasn't forbidden, it lost its appeal? By the way, alcoholism does run in my extended family - so we were aware of its affects and the pain it causes. Growing up I knew that 2 of my relatives died because of alcohol.
  16. I started drinking coffee when I was 13 with lots of cream and sugar. I don't think 1 cup a day is harmful. When I was working in Boston, I would see middle school kids taking the subway with a cup of coffee on their way to school.
  17. Thank you! Just found it. I would have totally missed it, otherwise.
  18. Heinz Doofenshmirtz Perry the Platypus Harriet the Spy Nicholas Benedict Encyclopedia Brown Trixie Belden
  19. :iagree: I hate getting rid of books but I gave both books 1 & 2 of his away. None of us liked it. Didn't finish the second one at all.
  20. We ordered a foam mattress a few months ago on Amazon. It was free delivery, too. The mattress is great and in the $200-300 range.
  21. We do family celebrations with cake and decorations and special presents the child really wants. The child gets to pick all the meals for the day and pick a weekend to go somewhere the child wants (museum, movie, restaurant, etc.). Once in awhile we'll have a friend birthday party. Then the party is the our birthday present to the child. Since your dd is expecting a birthday party, I'd probably have one for her this year and then not have ones in the following years. Instead of make-up could you hire a teenager to do their nails and hair for them? Maybe buy special hair clips and other accessories for them to put in and keep?
  22. The MIT museum is cool. It's in Cambridge. Also the glass flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History is definitely worth a visit. Hot Chocolate at Burdick's Cafe in Harvard Square. The Harvard Book Store (not the coop) has a great used book section in the basement. Beautiful children's books at great prices. The main Boston Public Library has beautiful artwork decorating the walls. Walden Pond (a little bit of a drive) but you can see Thoreau's shack.
  23. My fourth pregnancy was the worst for nausea and vomiting. It lasted until 32 weeks. I took Zofran with my last 4, and I think it was diclectin (?) with my first. I couldn't function without it and my kids are perfect :) most of the time :tongue_smilie:
  24. If you're talking about the dystopian novel, it only really works as a whole set. The first book is really a short story that sets up the whole series. I bought the omnibus edition on kindle and I would have been screaming in frustration if I had only the first book and couldn't read on. It's a good read. Not my favorite or the best book I've ever read, but definitely a good read.
