The Myth of Learning Styles Debunked
Janet in Toronto replied to tdeveson's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: It doesn't mean that different learning styles don't exist, just that there haven't been valid studies to prove it.- 47 replies

Catholic High School Entrance Test
Janet in Toronto replied to Carol in Cal.'s topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My son's Catholic school here in Canada required the SSAT/ We wrote it in Georgia where we were living at the time, and there were other students applying to Catholic high schools in that state writing it at the same time. -
Would you be offended if...
Janet in Toronto replied to cdrumm4448's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'd think it was odd, and so wouldn't bring wipes. I'd just give my kids some hand sanitizer to use after using the bathroom and every so often. Or simply not attend the dinner. -
I use breakfast sausage (my homemade stuff) in tomato-based pasta sauce...any of these would probably work. I fry up some chopped onions and garlic, add 1/2 lb or more sausage meat and brown. Throw in a large can of chopped tomatoes, small can of paste, half the large can of water, some herbs, tbsp sugar (optional...I think it makes the tomatoes taste better), salt, pepper flakes, and let it simmer. You could make a big batch and freeze. Meatballs would work too...just sub into your fave meatball recipe.

Anyone on Cymbalta or Pristiq?
Janet in Toronto replied to Pip's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm on Cymbalta and love it. It took a couple of weeks to adjust and the effects didn't kick in fully for 6-8 weeks. It has helped with frequency of migraines and generalize back ache as well. Can't help you with my other effects as I went off BCP at the same time, and so experienced a little weight gain (probably water weight...it was a diuretic) and not much change to libido (although the two meds could be trading off against each other.) My doc, who I trust implicitly, thinks Cymbalta is one of the best out there. It's the first AD med I've been on, and am totally happy. -
If your child had H1N1 what came first?
Janet in Toronto replied to melmichigan's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Cough for a few days, then fever, bodyache, loss of appetite (all together). Cough continued for a couple of weeks after acute phase. -

I'm going strong! I've posted daily+ and have 27 posts in the month of November so far. Don't really have a favorite post though. They're all pretty random, LOL! Janet -
I did the Grade 8 RCM Piano exam when I was in Grade 8 in public school. I then dropped piano and continued on with Harmony, Counterpoint, and Analysis (because I was interested....) and did those exams while I was in high school. I started piano when I was about 7 and only did Grade 6 and Grade 8 piano exams. My roommate in university was a piano performance major and had her ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music). While Grade 8 Practical gets you a Grade 12 music credit, candidates for music programs at university normally are playing well above that level. This page at the RCM website suggests pairings of performance and theory levels. [interesting Aside: I have a friend who teaches at the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory (pre-professional program) and she said that the exam program was originally (way back) set up as a way to sort of regulate piano teaching. Examiners would travel across the country doing the tests and so parents could evaluate how well their child's teacher was working with them. It sort of standardized private music instruction.]

Good Breadmaker and Yeast-free
Janet in Toronto replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just saw your second post...the Zojirushi I have (and my previous Black and Decker) both had non-stick coatings. I"m not sure if there are breadmakers without it. -
Good Breadmaker and Yeast-free
Janet in Toronto replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Breadmakers cannot be used to make buns. You need to use the "Dough" program, or stop the machine before the final rise, remove the dough, shape it, final rise, and then bake in the oven. I can't help you with yeast-free bread. The Zojirushi bread-makers are the highest rated, and easy to use and clean. I don't have a bread slicer....I use a serated-edge knife to cut my bread and don't have any problems. -

Epic of Gilgamesh
Janet in Toronto replied to Ritsumei's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I read and liked the Stephen Mitchell "new english version". The Boston Globe says "The mysterious, sinewy surge of his verse [is] thoroughly modern, yet and uncanny evocation of the primeval." It's a beautiful read! -
What programs come to mind having male authors?
Janet in Toronto replied to rafiki's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
The Fallacy Detective. -
That's the one I have. My first was Black and Decker with one paddle that made tall skinny bread. I got the one above two years ago and use it almost daily. Love it.
