abc pocket phonics. It has a lite version you can try for free. My 4 year old loves it. It's helping his writing and letter sounds. He still hasn't figured out the blending, but he's getting a lot of repetition in! My 7 year old doesn't love it, but it's an easier way to practice cursive than normal writing, she generally doesn't like any writing practice. Writing with your finger is less painful than with a pencil when you're learning, that's been good for them both. It has a few minor phonics errors (it uses the short o when teaching old, for some reason) but is great for repetition overall.

We have never made any in-app purchases, but there are a couple that I am considering. What I am wondering is if you make an in-app purchase whether that purchase applies to all devices on the account or if it applies *only* to the device on which the purchase was made. In other words, are in-app purchases a way for developers to avoid the licensing of their wares to all the devices? TIA!

I've read nearly every app thread here and spent way too much time browsing the app store. I'm looking for a household checklist app that isn't tied to time slots or a calendar, allows you to move tasks around after they've been created, and possibly has sub-tasks for some things on the checklist (like cleaning chores). I also need a place to leave indefinite to-do notes, like people to call or appointments to make. Does this even exist? I have sick and tired kids who are making my brain foggy, and I'm having issues comprehending all these app descriptions. Thanks!

What apps do you use that help you as a homeschooler? Non-school related ones welcome too. THANK YOU!!!!! We have just joined the 21st century, going from sharing a flip-phone for 6 years to having my own Iphone4 YAY!

Two of my kids just got touches for their birthdays (and my youngest can borrow my iphone). Most of the reason we agreed to get them for them was our upcoming very long drive up the east coast. I've been loading them up with apps but I need more! They have $60 to spend on itunes from gift cards from the grandparents, so price is no object (well, more or less). What apps do your kids love? Any good podcasts for kids? Stuff I'm not thinking of? Has anyone done the movie rentals from itunes? How do they work? I'm assuming if we rent one we can only play it once, yes? so if they all wanted to watch it they'd either have to huddle around one ipod or we'd have to pay for it again?

I don't have an iPhone yet, but I have a very old Windows phone that has a shopping program I've very attached to. (It's called JShopper, and I've used it since Palm days!) Since this old phone is having problems and I also have an old iPod, there's a chance I'll get an iPhone. (I'm open to other suggestions though.) So, does anyone have a favorite grocery shopping iPhone app? With my current one, I can sort my list alphabetically for selecting my items, and then I can sort it by aisle number when I shop. (Some sort by department, but I really like the aisle numbers.) Also, I have some saved lists for four weeks of meals. I can choose that list and tell it to select all those items, which saves me so much time in meal planning and preparing the grocery list!

Is there a way to get regular DVD videos to play on an iPod Classic or iPhone. I was sure someone here shared an app that would allow that, but I can't find the post anymore. I'd like to be able to play the TC DVDs on my iPod devices, as well as put some of the kids' movies on so that they can watch them when we are out at appointments. Dh and I have tried several times, but no success thus far. Can this be done?

I got an I pod touch for Christmas and have been looking at the applications. What do you recomend that a 6 yr old boy could use (educational). He can read so I'm not sure about the phonics ones as they may be a little easy. Are there any good spelling or math ones? Stephanie

Is anyone using a smartphone application for remembering birthdays and anniversaries that they would recommend to others? I'm using an Android phone, but I'm also interested in hearing about iPhone applications, since many of those are migrating to Android. One issue on Android is that birthdays and anniversaries are supported online, but not yet on the handset. I'm hopeful that this will be rectified on an upcoming release. Does iPhone store these dates in the contacts on the phone or is there a privacy concern with doing this? TIA!

Has anyone successfully created and used flashcards on the iPod? What did you use to create them? I'm looking for the easiest way to put our Latin & French vocab onto flashcards on the iPod to see if that's easier than making paper cards. Thanks for any suggestions! yvonne

My amazing brother gave me an ITouch for my 40th birthday, and I would really like some suggestions for fun apps to put on it. I don't play games, although I am not totally opposed to having a few on it. I don't have a GPS or camera on it, and have no idea where to start when looking at the bazillion apps out there. One thing I would love is a good application where I can read (or listen to) the Bible (preferably both OT and NT) on it, if there is such a thing. Anyone have recommendations? Thank you!

My DH bought me a new iphone for my birthday (abeit a little early). I was curious, of those that have this gadget, what iphone apps do you use on it for homeschooling. My kids are 6 and 7, decent readers and okay in math, love history and science. I havent even looked at the iphone store (or whatever it is called). During downtimes waiting for one or the other sibling I know my kids will want to play on it. Is there an app that your kids love (that might not just be a time user but something they might learn from). I am curious if there is an app you have been looking for but it isnt available. I get mine in a week or so and know all the hive minds will have great suggestions. What are your favorite applications? I'm trying to figure out what to put on mine. I would love some sort of app that would allow me to plan menus and keep to do lists, etc. in an easy way. Not sure if something like that exists. I was also thinking about a calorie tracker type thingy.... What else do you all use and love? The phone was quite the surprise. Dh went to Trader Joes last night and came home with a bunch of groceries and two phones for us. :glare: Such a stinker!
