we are looking for a car for my 19 yo dd. There is a 2007 Hyundai Sonata advertised on Craigslist that has 140,000 on it. My ds said he has alot of friends with older Sonatas that started having major problems at around 120,000 to 130,000 miles. Any experience on way or the other on Sonatas that you care to share?

I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. About 20 years ago, my oldest daughters had a friend, age 13, who just didn't wake up one morning. I was co-leader of a homeschool support group with the mom. She sent her only other child, a son, into her room because she was sleeping later than usual and he found her dead. It was very tragic. I still remember the phone call from my friend. Everyone was is shock. They did an autopsy and found nothing. Never could find a cause of death. About 10 years later, my friend died from breast cancer, leaving her husband and son.

What songs make you feel emotional/nostalgic?

we are in need of an additional vehicle. We have a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. My dh was a Dodge/Chrysler mechanic many years ago and can do repair work on those vehicles. He overhauled the transmission in our minivan a couple of months ago when it stopped going in reverse. He gets parts for cost plus 10% at the dealer he used to work for. He is in a completely different field now. So we would like to stay with Dodge/Chrysler. Due to the fact that the number of kids we have at home are dwindling we no longer have to go with a minivan, but we need more space than a regular car. In looking, I came across a couple of Chrysler Pacificas. It looks like it has good crash test results and good reviews. Anyone have any personal experience with them?

My dd is looking to buy an Asus laptop for college. The one she is looking at is actually a 2 in 1, so it is a laptop and tablet both. I don't have any experience with Asus. At the store today, the salesman told me it was a very reliable brand. This would be a middle of the road quality, not their low, value laptops. Anyone have an Asus they can review for me?

Teresa in MO replied to lotsofpumpkins's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
did you know that they just came out with Essentials in Literature. Level 8 can be used in 9th and they will have more levels out early next year. I like the looks of it, -
my dd lives close to them in Montana and has had interactions with them.

Dr. Jay Wile's new Chemistry book
Teresa in MO replied to Teresa in MO's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Yes, he started writing a new one after seeing the errors of the 3rd edition. The first two chapters and the table of contents are on his website. It seems more doable for a non stem student than the 2nd edition of Exploring Creation with Chemistry. It is formatted a little different. It will come out in August. I am seriously considering it for my two high school students to do together. -
Is anyone considering using Dr. Wile's new Chemistry book that is coming out in August? They have the first two chapters online. I like what I see and am in the process of comparing it with the Apologia Chemistry 2nd edition that I already have. I think this new book would be a better fit for my dd. It seems less wordy to me.

Apologia Physics DVD by Rusty Hughes
Teresa in MO replied to a topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Does anyone know where you can order the chemistry dvd for the second edition? Neither RR nor CBD have it and you Amazon only has used copies. -
We went to Glacier last year in the middle of August when we were visiting my dd in Montana. There were lots of people on the trails. Weather was very nice in the mid 70's. It was wonderful! No sightings of bears. There are signs on the trails to make lots of noise to keep them away.

my dd is looking for a new car after hers was totaled due to a flash flood. She is looking to buy new. We have never bought new and have only bought private party. We know absolutely nothing about negotiating the price of a new car. She obviously will not have a trade in. How much can we expect them to lower the price through negotiating? I know this will vary, but we have no idea what to expect. I have read the threads here on buying a new car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

my dd's 2012 Chevy Cruze got flooded a few weeks ago in a flash flood and the insurance company has totaled it out. She is looking for a new vehicle. She might go with a new Chevy Cruze but she is also interested in the 2015 Honda CR-V or the Toyota Rav4. In her research, she has found out the the 2015 Honda Cr-V's have a vibration problem which she did notice during test driving it. Does anyone have either the 2015 Honda CR-V or the Toyota Rav4 and can you comment on them? I guess previous years of the CR-Vs are not affected.

Is Kohls always this good with coupons/discounts?
Teresa in MO replied to Ottakee's topic in The Chat Board
I agree on returning when you used Kohls cash. They used to give you store credit and not deduct the Kohls cash. I returned something recently that cost around $40. They then deducted $10 Kohls cash. I told the cashier that if I would have just bought that item I would not have gotten Kohls cash as you need a $50 purchase. She explained that they use a system of the other items on your receipt, didn't make much sense. I told her next time I return something that I used Kohls cash with I would just return it without a receipt and get full store credit. She agreed that this is the best way to go. I like the way Jcpenneys does theirs. They take a percentage off each individual item so if you return one item only that amount will be deducted. -
Your uplifting thoughts and prayers, please
Teresa in MO replied to swimmermom3's topic in The Chat Board
I have personally gone through this with a close relative. It will be a long and hard road for his family and for all that are close to him. My prayers are with all of you. -
we have been sick for the past 2 weeks and have done very little school. Are they in bed? No. But they are just laying around and would not be able to concentrate on schoolwork. I have it too so I can relate to how they are feeling. We have been to the doctor three times and the pharmacy four times. At this point they would rather be doing school and have attempted. But when you are coughing literally non-stop its hard to do schoolwork. They know that this setback has pushed us into June and would be doing anything to prevent that from happening.
