  1. Thanks everyone. I used some of your wording on goggle and on the US Department and Health and Human Services it state that a parent can keep a child on their insurance even if the are eligible to enroll in their employers plan.
  2. My 18 year old son works part time and his employee offers health insurance. He is on my COBRA plan for another 13 months. When my husband passed away and I was looking at my healthcare options, even though COBRA was expensive it made the most sense because I had coverage for 6 people. It has very low deductibles and out of the pocket maximums. It doesn't make sense for him to take this insurance. I know before Obamacare if they were offered insurance from an employer they had to take it and mine became secondary. From what I have read, that is no longer the case. They have to option to take the employers or remain on their parents. Does anyone know if my interpretation of this is correct? I would call the union office through which the insurance is through, but they don't always tell you the correct information, if you know what I mean. It doesn't make sense that he use alot of his pay, when he is on my plan. The enrollment period for his insurance ends tomorrow.
  3. My dd is going to be working a 13 week temporary OTA position in Fort Stockton, Texas. She leaves at the end of the week. It is 16 hours away from home. Makes me a little nervous. Does anyone live or know anything about Fort Stockton?
  4. Ever since my husband died I have the hardest time making big final decisions. Well some not so big, I even struggle choosing paint color! I need a new washer/dryer. Have to buy one today. I originally was going with LG front loaders. The more research I did, the more confused I got. I'm not quite sure why I'm having such a hard time, because if my husband was still alive he would have left the decision up to me. So help me out here. My first choice would be front loader, but would consider top loaders. If you love your washer/dryer tell me what brand you have and how reliable its been, Thanks so much in advance.
  5. I need a new washer and dryer. In my research on brands I have come across Electrolux being highly rated. I was originally going to go with LG. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, of either brand?
  6. I have lost both of my parents and my brother took his own life seven years ago. None of this prepared me for the grief of losing my dh suddenly 2 years ago. I have learned so much about grief these past 2 year. It is not something you "get over". I don't miss him any less than I did 2 years ago. Grief is lonely, overwhelming, and heartbreaking. It takes alot of hard work everyday not to let grief win. I am so sorry for your losses.
  7. By dh died very unexpectedly 2 years ago. We married at 18 and were married for 38 years. He truly was the love of my life. I still view myself as his wife, if that makes any sense. I agree with others that I've had the best and it would not be fair to compare, even though the loneliness is unbearable at times.
  8. I have 10 kids. When #6 came along they were age 9 and under. I have a 5 year gap between #6 and #7. So when my last 4 were born my older kids were teenagers and they had chores which helped alot. But even when I had 6 ages 9 and under my household was nothing like you describe. I did not, nor did I need help managing my household. We did all the cleaning, cooking, laundry, and homeschooling ourselves. About the only help was when we needed an babysitter and then it as mostly my mother-in-law. Did I at times feel overwhelmed, absolutely, but those times were rare.
  9. I am needing to get a new washer and dryer. I'm just not sure what I want, am considering either top loader or front loader. I am leaning toward a front loader. I have had a Maytag Bravos top loader washing machine and dryer for the last 12 years that I have been pretty happy with. Has had a few repairs and now needs more and its not worth it to put any more money into them. (I am not really interested in getting a speed queen.) In my research, the most reliable brands seem to be LG, Kenmore, and Maytag. So any recommendations would be appreciated.
  10. I have only one student left and have alot of used curriculum to sell. In the past, I have sold at used curriculum sales. The past few years, they have not been well attended. There is a homeschool library here that will take consignment, but they changed their policy at the beginning of the year. They now take 50% of the sale price that they set, and anything that is not sold does not get returned to you. I'm just not sure I can do this being a widow and in need of income. Where have you had the most success in selling your curriculum?
  11. My son and daughter-in-law live 40 minutes away. They spend every other Sunday over here, anywhere from 3-8 hours. There are times in between that we spend time together. My son works out of town sometimes, and my DIL will come spend time over here. They are expecting a baby in August.
  12. I am frustrated with myself. My dh and I married when we were 18 yo. We celebrated our 38th anniversary a couple months before he passed away. I absolutely hate making decisions by myself. Most are major decisions, but now I can't even pick a paint color for my upstairs bathroom. I am doing some projects around the house that have been put off for too long. I am updating the upstairs bathroom. Over the past week, I have gotten 11 paint samples and can't decide on the color! We were going to paint today, but I can't decide on the color I want. Frustrating!!!!!
  13. Congratulations to your family. What a wonderful blessing. Love the name.
  14. Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm a little confused though when everyone says to let the insurance company handle it. The letter I got (my dd got one letter and I got a cc) was from my insurance company. I also got a release form from my insurance company for permission to let the other party know my policy limits. Not sure if that's in my best interest or not.

  16. Jean, can I ask if your son was on your auto insurance policy? Thanks everyone for responding. I know logically I need not to worry about this, but my body doesn't alway listen to my mind, if that makes sense. The letter states that she has offered to settle the claim for $350K and that anything over my policy limit might be my dd's responsibility and that we have a right to retain a lawyer. I talked to my agent and she is reaching out to the claims adjuster to get more information on Monday. The car was titled in my dd's name, but her insurance is on my policy.
  17. Ever since my dh passed away 18 months ago, I get very overwhelmed at times worrying about financial matters, and sometimes just day to day decisions that have to be made. While we had a fair amount of life insurance on him, it will definitely not be enough to last my lifetime. My hope is that its enough to see me through till my youngest dc reaches adulthood. And I think it will or would if not for having to worry about this. My 20 yo dd was in an accident about 2 months after my dh passed away. She thought she was at a 4 way stop sign, but traffic the other way did not have to stop. The other car was basically sideswiped down the passengers side. There was front end damage to my dd's car, which my son was able to fix. The other car was damaged down pretty much the entire passengers side. Speed limit was only 20 mph, but my son believes for the amount of damage done, that the other driver was going considerably faster than that. The accident was relatively minor. The police came and made them exchange insurance information, but we don't believe a police report was made. My son was there when the police officer asked the other driver if she was hurt. She was running around mad and said no she was fine, but then said Oh, I don't know. We knew that she had retained a lawyer last year. Got a letter yesterday that she will settle the claim for 350K!! My policy limit is $100,000. My dd is on my auto insurance policy. Insurance is just so expensive on their own policy and because they pay for their own college, we usually keep them on our policy until the graduate from college. Looking back now, I realize that this was stupid, stupid, stupid! And we had no umbrella policy. I tried to get one after the accident (knowing it would not cover the accident, but for the future going forward), but they will not issue one until the accident has been closed. I ask myself how I was so stupid when it came to both life insurance, auto insurance, and the need for an umbrella policy. I did not realize they were so reasonably priced. I didn't sleep much at all last night. I won't be able to talk to the claims adjuster until Monday. And my body does not react good to added stress. Sometimes it just feels like too much. Thanks for letting me vent.
  18. Thanks everyone! It went really well. I was there for 5 hours. We just talked and talked. She lost a sister suddenly a few months before my dh passed away, so we shared alot of the same feelings. It was nice to talk to someone who truly understands. I wish neither of us were in that situation, but we both could relate to each other. Was really a wonderful afternoon. We are going to try and contact the other 2 girls and see if we can arrange for us all to get together next time.
  19. When I was growing up, there were 4 of us girls the same age that lived on my street. We grew up together. There was always one of us not getting along with another, you know how it is. As we got married, we went separate ways. One moved out of town, and I run into one every once in a while at the store. The other one I haven't seen in 40 years, except once maybe 20-25 years ago at Target. We connected on Facebook the beginning of the year and have text back and forth a little. I am going to her house this afternoon for lunch I'm a bit nervous Ever since by dh passed away, any time I am the least bit nervous I have weird physical symptoms. Plus my hearing is horrible, so I'm a little nervous about that. Trying to decide between an implant or a regular hearing aid. I have been trying to go out of my comfort zone. We will see how it goes. Thanks for listening.
  20. When my dh passed away suddenly, a friend of my son's (she was like a mom since he lived out of town) set up a GoFundMe account to cover funeral expenses. My kids had to tell me before I saw it posted on Facebook. I didn't know how I felt about it at first, but it was very humbling that people I didn't even know were donating. Over half the funeral expenses were covered. Then a family that my son knows that has a charitable foundation sent a donation to our church to cover the remaining expenses. It truly was a blessing. I don't think anyone would judge you for setting this type of fund up. I too am so sorry you are going through this.
  21. My ds and dd are going to be going to New Zealand for 2 1/2 weeks in mid February. Do they need to purchase health insurance? Any recommendations if they do?
  22. My dd needs a new car. She is in her last semester of an OTA program at the local community college. She is driving a 2003 Honda Accord with over 300K miles on it and it is having issues and is no longer dependable. We were hoping it would last until she finishes in May, but she is going into some bad areas for her clinical and I am not comfortable that she does not have a dependable car. She qualified for a loan on a 2015 Hyundai Elantra that is a really good price, and has six years left on the warranty. I am just not used to my dc getting loans on cars at her age. (She is 21) My late dh was a Chrysler mechanic years ago and could do maintenance and repairs on our vehicles. So, my kids bought older cars with low miles that were in good shape, but might have minor issues down the road. We never had to take our cars to a mechanic to be fixed. Saved lots of money. But, that is no longer the case. I have a ds who is able to do repairs, but he is newly married, a child on the way, and lives 40 minutes away. He is more than willing to do whatever we need, but I am not going to burden him. So, I am looking for information on Hyundai Elantras. Likes, dislikes?
  23. She has lied to me repeatedly the past few months, so I will let Paypal sort it out.
  24. I had 3 actual separate orders with her. This was the last order and for some reason I paid for this order with my cc through Paypal. I have an actual separate checking account that I keep very little end and transfer money into it to pay through Paypal. But for this order something was telling me to pay with my cc. Does this make a difference?
