  1. My husband would like a tablet for Christmas. Which one takes Skype? I've heard that Android doesn't work, is that true? I would like to get a cover with a keyboard also. Please help, I don't know what I'm doing!
  2. We just watched a Rick Steve's special programming about this on our local PBS telethon this past weekend. Maybe it will play soon on your local Pbs station. It was great! http://www.ricksteves.com/tvr/pledge/xmas/xmas_menu.htm Oh! I googled and it streams on Itunes for free. http://itunes.apple.com/podcast/rick-steves-european-christmas/id205077447
  3. I'm confused. Why do you say the way CLE teaches it isn't accurate? It goes into divisibility rules later too.
  4. It is just a quick way to check work. It is actually quite handy. You'll see in future grades if you stick with CLE.
  5. bump for one more try for input... Please reply even if you think I'm being silly and borrowing trouble :).
  6. Christian Light Education Language Arts Sunrise edition is perfect for what you are looking for. I recommend you buy the laminated Language Arts reference charts as well as your lightunits/teacher's manual. You will only need additional writing instruction - which I recommend WWE, and WWS. HTH! http://www.clp.org/store/by_subject/3
  7. Do you see a problem with that? He read a lot for TQ history for assigned reading. This includes a ton of biographies and historical fiction. I read aloud also many classics. However for his fun reading of his own choosing, he turns up his nose at fantasy. I was the same way as a child, still am! My daughter has a more well rounded reading diet though. His favorite authors are - Matt Christopher (first series he read), Dan Gutman "And Me" series, John Tunis, Robert Lytle's A Pitch in Time, Mike Lupica and Tim Green. He would be thrilled to find another baseball time travel book! He also read Boxcar series when he first learned to read and half of the Sugar Creek Gang before he discovered baseball/sports books. Do you see a problem with this? Considering he reads historical fiction, science non fiction, bios and I read out loud. My husband just thinks it is amazing he reads so much. Every spare momend is playing outside, except he reads at bedtime. He doesn't touch video/computer games. He loves board games and building sets when it is bad weather. Just wondering what everyone thinks?
  8. After searching the boards more, I may wait for the Wii U in 2012. I could buy used games and controllers to play the 1rst generation games too. I really like the look of the tablet controller and all he could do with it...
  9. I think I don't want a wii if the controller is tricky. Would a 4gb Xbox 360 be enough memory for a novice player. I could buy the Kinect later right? Used games at Gamestop?
  10. 1. What do the gb numbers mean? I.e. Playstation 3 has 160gb and Xbox has 4gb... 2. What does the online membership do? We wouldn't want that, do you need it to play the Xbox for example? I'm looking at ads for a special needs (moderately intellectually disabled) 14yo. He would only play easy, E rated games like Lego, John Madden etc. I don't anticipate him playing anything multiplayer or downloading online. 3. Would a Wii suit his needs better? Could he use the Wii mote? This is all so confusing. Thanks for any help.

  12. We would like to get started with Skype, so my husband can see/chat w/ the kids during school! I can set it up on our schoolroom desktop, but what will he need? He won't want to use his company provided laptop or phone. Some kind of tablet? Which one? Thanks!
  13. Doesn't Gamestop have used Xbox/Kinect games for cheaper? I think an Ipad is a great idea down the road... We made our bonus room/office into an apartment for him as an adult. I'm trying to get him something up there to do for fun. Thanks for the advice everyone!
  14. My 12yod read them at 8-9yo. She loved them, but warns they are "problem novels". She can't remember exactly but subjects like abuse, alcoholism, & maybe mental illness. In a very child friendly way. She loved the small town setting and the character with special needs. Hth!
  15. 14yo w/ 48iq. Higher verbal, but uncoordinated. He does well with computer Lego, sports, Star Wars and Transformer pc games. Which would be easier to use?
  16. Pioneer Woman's recipe is our new fave: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2010/11/dreamy-apple-pie/
  17. My 14yo son is moderately disabled and in a similar middle school class after being homeschooled through 5th grade. I can't stand that they have the same teacher and aides for 3 years in a row. They cannot handle the stress of the same kids with their challenges for so many years... The girl in the video seemed so compliant and sweet, I know my son is more challenging than that. And his classmates. I can't imagine what goes on in there. I want to tape now! But, I won't... He has echolalia and comes home everyday to rehearse his classroom time as though he is the teacher. I hear enough from that to question every day if we are doing the right thing.
  18. What do you recommend? We have a front loader washer. I prefer powder dishwasher detergent for the budget. I have used store brands in the past with mixed results, but I'm looking for the best deals as well as effective. I have a Sam's membership, Walmart, Target and Aldi close by.
  19. My 10yo son can't put down the Baseball Card Adventures series by Dan Gutman.
  20. Would you also mention an internal contact that referred you in the cover letter?
  21. How would you say in a cover letter??: "My skills and experience are a good match to your needs in this position." Would you use different wording? Or a different word instead of match? I'm trying to help someone, but I'm not sure either :). Thanks!
  22. The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen (WTM recent rec) The Girls from Ames I'm so excited. I love my Kindle!
  23. This may be in the thread but what is the publication schedule for the print copies of Writing with Skill future volumes? Dec/January still? Or will the next print volume be ready before school year starts - 2012/2013? I was just wondering if the schedule has moved up with ALL on hold. I vastly prefer print copies, though I'm very thankful for our pdf :).
