  1. I was asking, as of last night, only the audio cd of Aeneid was available. So, I was considering audio cds for all sets... We are loving studying Iliad and Odyssey this fall with abridged versions first, now Fagles with audio and Heroes of the City of Man and Sparknotes. I'm still undecided on teh Vandiver sets, but the price is great!
  2. 1. Bju Cultural Geography without dvds 2. ACE World Geography 3. Abeka World Geography .5 credit I normally wouldn't consider Ace but this has great reviews. They have done mapwork w/ chronological history, but they have major gaps. We want cultural and physical geography. Thanks!
  3. My 12yo daughter had the same criteria last summer. :) -Chasing Vermeer trilogy -Mysterious Benedict Society trilogy -Mandie series (lots of these) by Lois Gladys Leppard http://www.amazon.com/Mandie-Collection-Cherokee-Bandits-Forbidden/dp/0764204467 -Melendy Quartet -Thimble Summer -Gone Away Lake -Return to Gone Away Lake all by Elizabeth Enright -Rules -Touch Blue both by Cynthia Lord -Louisa May Alcott (classic but maybe she missed it) -Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L'engle (science fiction but maybe she hasn't read it yet!)
  4. I did the same thing last year - low cost Ideal Protein.:) I recommend this product for your evening snack. Much lower cost than Ideal Protein but same nutritional ratio. Most Wonderslim products are similar to Ideal Protein... http://www.dietdirect.com/wonderslim-weight-loss-diet-puddingshakes.html
  5. Yes, she outlines for WWS and history. It is just science she doesn't seem to "need" to yet. Maybe I'll require it next semester, but it seems overkill when she has an A+ average...
  6. We're signed up but very intimidated. I'm not sure I'm going to make them go. They aren't getting more than 1-2 problems right on their practice sets....
  7. My daughter's study method: read text with audio writes vocab definitions in comp book experiments multimedia cd study guide in comp book test She does not outline or take notes on the text while reading. Should I encourage her to start this for study skills practice for high school?
  8. I was planning to use Dive Integrated Chemistry and Physics, Biology and Chemistry with BJU texts in 8th-10th, then AP courses. However, my 7th grader adores Apologia General Science - especially with the audio mp3. She says it helps her with pronounciation and retention. She also likes the chatty text - which I had read negative reviews for. She has a 98% after the first quarter! I don't want to mess with what is working for her. I don't think Dive Integrated Chemistry and Physics correlates that great with Apologia Physical. So, we may just use Apologia Physical Science the same way we use Apologia General Science with all lab supplies in our kits- I'm only using both as middle school courses anyway. For bio I would use both Apologia texts, including Advanced Bio/Anatomy with the Dive cd-rom syllabus. We would use Apologia Chemistry/Advanced Chemistry with the Dive Chemistry syllabus. I think only Apologia Adv. Chem doesn't have a MP3 available. We would also buy the Dive lab kits for bio and chemistry. Does anyone choose Apologia over BJU for Dive because of the audio mp3???
  9. We had drain gnats. I looked everywhere for fruit fly gnats but there wasn't anything. Then, I realized they were coming from a drain. I can't remember but I think I poured down bleach, but I let it sit and then rinsed. They haven't returned.
  10. My 14yo son in special ed has major phonics gaps. I would like to add the 70 phonograms as daily review to our sight word flash cards. I see the flashcards to purchase from SWR, but I'm having trouble finding software or online games to play. Any ideas? Thanks!
  11. I have K9 web protection, but I allowed youtube so he could watch these toy videos. Maybe with safety locked on now - bc I'm logged in with my google account - he can't come across anything bad. I think he'll still hear swears though. I can make a playlist if I need to.
  12. Ok - I read this article that recommended linking youtube to my google account so I can keep on top of it more. I have safety mode locked now too. http://www.labnol.org/internet/make-youtube-kids-safe/12820/ I guess the next resort is to keep a playlist of videos that are acceptable and blocking all the rest? Thanks for any tips!
  13. Help! Does anyone know how to filter youtube without blocking the entire site??? Can anyone help?
  14. My very good reader needs the audio cd (on her ipod) to help her with pronounciation and to stay on task. She likes the multimedia cd also, they are too seperate things.
  15. Great thanks I can read those aloud. Would anyone add another reader from my home library choices? Or just these 2 read alouds? Thanks!!
  16. He has read: The Trojan War, Emily Little Tales from the Odyssey series, Mary Pope Osborne Which for readers or readalouds from our home library? Black Ships Before Troy The Wanderings of Odysseus, Rosemary Sutcliff The Children's Homer, Padraic Colum The Iliad and the Odyssey of Homer, Alfred Church The Ancient Greece of Odysseus, Peter Connolly
  17. My 7thgd and I love Wws, but I'm not sure I want to use the pdf samples on my kindle every year. I'm thankful for the sample and I will use Wws w/ my younger son. Is there anything similar for my 7thg??
  18. Old Navy has a huge selection of jeans styles - many mid rise and boot cuts. Often on sale.
  19. Thanks! I will ask or clarification, I'm reading the rough draft. Sigh...
  20. ...Some of these IEP goals are just :001_huh:. What does "factor out to the power of 10" mean?
  21. I see where you are coming from - but when your child is disabled and in a public school it is your duty as a parent to advocate for your child. Sometime that means you can't continue to be the teacher's cheerleader. :001_smile:
  22. My 5th grader is using this as a spine/ reader. He has read the first 12 mini-chapters so far. He is finding it difficult to narrate and comprehend so far. He did ok with Oedipus, but the earlier chapters he basically had no idea who or what was happening. I read them too and I was a little perplexed myself. I'm sure Story of the Greeks gets better as the timeline advances and the historical record is clearer - but these beginning chapters are challenging... I may have him focus on Golden Days of Greece, by Coolidge as his primary spine to summarize in writing and narrate orally if this keeps up. Does anyone else have a child who struggled with this spine?
  23. I used to read Latin fluently in college - we used Wheelocks. I purchased a workbook for First Form Latin to work alongside the kids. I thought it would be a breeze and would come back naturally to me so I could help them. They are SOOOO much better at First Form than me - I have to study more at night to review the vocabulary, review the oral drills and translations. They are sponges and my brain is old and tired! I'll try to keep up through the Form series and then sign them up for online classes, bc I'm quite sure I can't keep this up!
