  1. I'm so sorry. Thinking of you and your family. :grouphug::grouphug:
  2. Oh how terrifying!!! Please be careful on the drive. I didn't reply in the other thread because by the time I saw it, all had been resolved. I, too, had hoped it was just a one-time thing. I'm sorry to hear it wasn't. Many, many :grouphug:. I'll be thinking of you and your family.
  3. I don't post too much, but I think of you and your family often. :grouphug::grouphug:
  4. :iagree::iagree: I totally agree with the above (in case that isn't obvious). :D My kids and I all use Benadryl now on occasion and have no problems, but it makes dh a bit drowsy. Since we're all different, there is no guarantee that your ds won't be affected by something. Back in the day, however, dh and I both took Sudafed and that didn't bother him at all~~ it seems like everything either makes him drowsy or knocks him out for days (like Nyquil). Sudafed was the one thing that worked and didn't affect his senses. If I felt a bad cold coming on, I would definitely go and get Sudafed as I know how well it works. So far, however, the Benadryl has taken care of our occasional (mild) sniffles, but IMO there is nothing like "the real thing" for a real cold/major sniffles & congestion. I would 'bite the bullet' and hand over my ID to buy a packet of the Sudafed. As for the questions in your follow-up post, I can't help there. I have no idea what the age to buy it is (I would guess 18 or 19) and I have no experience with a college's health canter. Sorry! I hope the poor lad can get some relief. I used to suffer through horrid sinus/allergy problems so I feel his pain! I wish him luck on his test.
  5. It's been a week and a half and Libby's cognitive state seems normal. She has gotten 'back to normal' but for one thing... all in a mere week and a half. You asked for opinions, so here is mine. If this was our pet and we had already paid $4000, we would give the water therapy a shot. If, as you said in a later post, she has a 3 in 5 chance of improvement with the therapy, in our eyes it would be worth it~~ we would figure out a way to pay for it. Do you have any guesses as to how many visits to the water therapy place she would need before improvement would be noticed? I'm wondering if the fact that she is 'three legging it' now isn't hampering the improvement of the other leg and once water therapy begins, you'll notice a large jump in muscle control. Also, is there some way to put a brace on the leg to assist/encourage her to try to walk on it? Is sounds like she just isn't using it, therefore no improvement. Anyway, since you have already spent to much, for us it would come to what's another xx amount if there is such a good change on getting her back to, or at least near to, her old self? Had your total thus far been, oh, $4000 and the water therapy was estimated to run $3000 or so, maybe my answer might be different, but since you have spent a big chunk so far, and with terrific results, maybe a smaller chunk would be worth it to continue. Would you have been willing to spend, say, $5000 at the vet had Libby been able to come home back to normal? If so, then, go for the water therapy before doing something permanent. :grouphug::grouphug: to you. It's so hard to know what to do.
  6. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed ours. Well, as much as one can 'enjoy' a removable screen door! Oh, a hint~~~ keep the box it comes in to store when not using. Mine came in a long narrow box that opens at the end so I just roll the screen up and stuff it and the rod back in when I'm not using it. It doesn't go back in the way it came out (nothing ever does!), but it's still quite handy. :D
  7. I have used a "Bug Off" screen for three years now. I only put it up when the weather is nice enough to use it, which is only for about four weeks out of the year. It uses a tension rod, and while there are velcro tabs down the sides, I don't bother with those, so when we go through the door, we just sweep the entire screen to the side. The magnets holding the panel closed are pretty strong, so if you want to use it that way, you will have to use the velcro. We just figured that for the limited amount of time we can use it, we wouldn't use the velcro. I have been very pleased with it. I bought mine from Amazon, though. http://www.bugoffscreen.com/
  8. I'm not sure how long this is good for, but for free shipping, I used 'ANZS'. I ordered yesterday and it worked.
  9. I don't get them anymore, but when the kids were younger it seemed that one of them would *always* ask me something while I was busy driving that would nearly cause me to swerve off the road!
  10. :iagree: If you have time, I second this idea. In April when the F5 tornado hit here, we wound up being without power for six full days. I had just *happened* to have got caught up with the laundry the day before. What a small blessing that turned out to be. Even in the event that you don't lose power, you could lose your water source, so having those clean clothes (and rags!) would be a comfort. Also, about the cash.... if you can, withdraw smaller bills and have loose change handy. With the exception of one day, the large stores here had generators trucked in so their credit card machines worked (but not debit), and it came in handy being able to pay for things with nearly exact cash. In fact, one guy in front of us was trying to buy ice with a check but the store's check machine was down (duh) and he had no cash. Just as we were about to offer to pay for his ice for him, the manager came over and OK'd the transaction so he was good to go. He told the manager he never carried cash and didn't even think about the debit and check machines being down since the store had a little power. I hope everyone stays safe and sound during this storm!!
  11. I was tested for environmental allergens (no foods or dyes, etc) and I reacted strongly to all trees, grasses, dust mites, cats, and dogs, but had *no* reaction to mold, mildew, or Ragweed. Ragweed allergies are notorious around here and my lack of reaction to Ragweed and mold & mildew while showing positives for so many other environmentals led my doc to retest with a new sample thingy. Still no reaction to those. He was perplexed. Interestingly, I grew up with cats and the only time I ever felt I was 'allergic' to them was if I petted them and then touched my face before washing my hands or let them rub on my face (I would get blotchy skin and my eyes would water and swell and itch a bit) OR if I got scratched... the scratch would itch like crazy and swell up. After about 10 minutes, though, all would be back to normal. I wouldn't worry until you have all the facts. And even then, I would look at what *you* observe with your son and the cats. It's entirely possible that any diagnosed cat 'allergy' will be mild (like mine) even though the test will show a strong reaction. He actually sounds a lot like me with the general allergies and mild asthma you mentioned in a subsequent post. I hope all goes well with the testing!
  12. Can I just say that while sitting here nursing a sore tummy (I ate too many cherries) I scanned this thread title and *thought* it said "Prude vacuum sealed chicken thighs - why the awful smell?" and I was all  . I had to read it not once more, but *twice* more to read it accurately. :D I'm going to get up and move around now because it seems that I'm dangerous here on the boards with this tummy ache. :auto:
  13. I saved mine as a doc file and then just copied another 20 week file on the next page, thus creating a two page file~~~ each page had the same 20 week file. I then went to the second page and changed the weeks to 21-40. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. There is probably a better/easier way to do it, but that's what I did. Thanks to Stacie Leigh for starting this thread, and thanks to mandymom for sharing this doc!
  14. I didn't vote in the poll, because my kids never did this, but my brother and I did (door jams only)!! We even have photos of us up at the ceiling! :D I always thought my kids were strange for not doing this, even after I told them about it. I guess my brother and I were just natural-born monkeys!
  15. :iagree: It is also the law that whenever I find time to wash my car, it must rain, and when it has dried, a bird must poo on it. :tongue_smilie: I'd snatch Han up and just drag him along. If he needs the rest, he'll fall asleep again. Like Gardening Momma, I never let it get in the way of my errands.
  16. I have been carded for ROOT Beer and Red Wine VINEGAR on separate shopping trips in separate stores (a Publix and a Target).
  17. Another firstborn here. Dh is first, too. This is an interesting poll. Somehow I missed the one from a few years ago.
  18. Rhonda, I just saw this thread and would also love a copy. I sent you a PM.
  19. We used Jacob's for Algebra and are now in Jacob's for Geometry (2nd ed.). Dd is doing great in the class and likes the way the material is presented.
  20. Six weeks here. Don't stress on the topics you think you didn't cover. We didn't cover the same history or science (not even close!) and dd still did exceptionally well. It seems that some things sink in when they (and we) aren't looking. Good luck to your dd. I hope her scores arrive soon.
  21. Thank you all so much for the advice. Because a college list hasn't even been penciled in yet, we don't know which schools to contact regarding their policies, so we chose to go slow for the fall semester and take the summer to really investigate colleges so we don't have to worry about 'closing doors' yet. Both my state schools operate on similar rules WRT cc credits, so if an out of state school doesn't offer a scholarship, then we would be relying on state schools, and I would hate to have too many credits in their eyes. With fall registration going on now, and with our tight fall schedule, it was imperative that we get certain course sections, so we went ahead and registered for a fewer number of classes than originally planned. We can change if we need to, but I suspect the fall term is set. While we investigate colleges and make a list of 'interesting ones', I will also be placing calls to those possible schools and playing phone tag with everyone in the office (I'm sure you all know that game... five transfers to someone who can help you, and you wind up back at the first person who couldn't help!). There is so much to consider that it makes looking into the future difficult, so we are playing it safe for now. Thanks again for the advice. I really appreciate it.
  22. I appreciate the info each of you has shared. While I was mostly confused as to the term "Freshman Scholarships", I didn't realize that such matters varied so much from school to school. I did learn from one website what I feared--- Scholarships based on SAT/ACT/PSAT scores are considered Freshman Scholarships (at least for one of my state schools), so my child would be ineligible with too many cc credits. I did contact one of my state schools and my concerns were confirmed. I am so frustrated. Anyone know of an easier way to find out about cc classes and freshman status for various unis other than spending the day on the phone with each school? The individual uni websites I visited were of no help. Thanks again for the quick replies... I truly appreciate it!!
