  1. Does anyone know what the difference is for WWE Workbook 1 which sells for $34.95 and the Student Pages for $11.95. It says they are consumable sheets for WWE Workbook 1. You can purchase it instead of making copies from the workbook for other students. I didn't realize you can make copies, this will save some dollars down the line:thumbup:. I thought I was going to have to buy one student workbook per child. I'm just wondering what is the use of the workbook when you can purchase the student pages for less:001_huh: I already purchased the Student Workbook though. Blessings,
  2. Looks great! If you do decide to go with FLL like someone mentioned, there is poetry to memorize in there. Just a thought. But it looks great! Blessings,
  3. I would drop the cottage school, co-op, state study & IEW Poetry memorization, Education of Physics and I don't know what Celtic & Norse Myth is :001_huh: so I would probably drop that too ;). That's what I would cut back on if I wanted to focus on the basics. You have plenty of history with TOG, you have your 3R's and chess still. I think that's plenty for a 2nd grader. Keep art fun along with history. You have plenty of time to add in all the other stuff:D Blessings,
  4. We did the Ducks in the pond:D. What I did was copy the ducks on yellow cardstock. Cut out an oval from blue paper and past it on a green piece of cardstock. I then glued that on the inside of a file folder. I also glued an envelope to to the outside to put the ducks in. We had fun with it. HTH,
  5. I have a soon to be 2nd grader who will be 8 when we start. He is going through "The Reading Lesson". He can read cvc words and some long vowel word, but he is not fluent yet. He's getting there. Blessings,
  6. My dd will be 9 in Sept. using this for her 3rd grade year.
  7. I am looking at using A Greek Alphabetarion: A Primer for Teaching How to Read, Write & Pronounce Ancient & Biblical Greek by Harvey Bludorn. and A Greek Hupogrammon: A Beginner's Copybook for Greek Alphabet with Pronunciations also by Harvey Bludorn. Do I need both of these? I would like to use this with my 8, 9 & 10 yr. olds this year. Thank you,
  8. So I'm not the only one who has tried to hard to like and want to do lapbooks. I have probably spent over a $100.00 trying to like them. We still have four unfinished from Hands of a Child and one half finished:blushing:
  9. Can you use this if you have another Grammar program. I am using FLL 3 or 4 & WWE for Grammar/Writng and R&S for Spelling. I don't want to add art. I mainly want to use it for reading & comprehension. I'm looking for my 8yr dd who reads at a 5th or 6th grade level. Her comprehension is mid 7th grade & word recognition is high 8th, I don't want to continue using R&S Reading 3 with her. I am not sure what am I suppose to order. Is it the Study Guide? Does the study guide include the student worksheets? If so, do I need one copy per child? Thanks!
  10. Even though they are less than a year apart I would keep the K student a K student. My dd was a 5yr. K student in Ca but when we moved to Tx she was not old enough to be K even though she was five, because of the cut off date. We go by the public because our church does, just makes things easier. Even though she did a year of Kinder already she did another year of Kindergarten but with 1st grade work. She is currently going into 3rd grade and has done 4yrs of school:001_huh: (K, K, 1st, 2nd) but I like it this way because we get to have her an extra year;) Blessings,
  11. I have used SL Core's C, B, 1 & 2 and WP AW, AS1, CAtW and currently using JOI. WP doesn't have discussion questions but does have narration questions. They are pieces of paper that you cut and after reading you pick one from a jar and discuss what the question was. I have to say I like both but SL has a lot of books and can feel overwhelming at times. You can easily stretch a core out over a year. WP gave me room to add in some books that I picked and wanted to read. WP has more pictures in their books. SL IMHO teaches more towards the older child. I would love for SL to have a core but give you the opportunity to by a pack of books with more pictures to keep the younger ones interested. WP gives you movie suggestions, websites and a few book suggestions also. As for AW when we used it and there was too much info on the page we just talked about the animal and I would tell them about it. I really like both programs. We might do SL Core-5 this year and WP S&S next year.
  12. I forgot to add that with my dd, we do combine the different Singapore books. For instance she will start 2A and also the Intensive 1B and Challenging Word Problems 2.
  13. I have always used two math programs but this year I'm going to only use one and supplement with Math-It. It just became too much trying to fit it all in. Almost every forum it seems everyone is using two so I thought maybe I should. Well after years of trying two we are going to use one per child. Dd will use Singapore, ds R&S, and the rest I'm not sure about yet;) I didn't know which one to vote for on the poll, because we have always used two but this school year we are going to use one, Blessings,
  14. I have a 10 yr. old son who I started with cursive when he was in 3rd grade & a 8yr old dd who I started in 2nd. Both of them can't seem to write in cursive naturally. They do their cursive book in cursive and once in a while their spelling, but it doesn't flow with them. Anyone else have this problem:confused: I don't know what to do. How did you get your dc writing in cursive??? I'm going to start my 1st & 2nd graders this year. Hopefully it will come more natural for them. Help!
  15. Funny thing is with my oldest I was so worried about him because he just didn't seem to get phonics. He would struggle with reading. I was thinking that maybe I wasn't doing a good job with hs him, but then I thought that my dd was doing great so maybe it wasn't me. Which got me thinking that if he was in ps he would really feel like a failure because he wouldn't be able to keep up. Then this summer he just took off. He is still not up to 'grade' level but pretty close to it. I look back and see that I worried for nothing:001_huh: they all are just so different. Josh started really reading in 4th grade, Annette was 5yrs, Caleb is almost 8 and reads at a mid K, Brent is in 1st and reads at mid K. You know what, I'm not worried about Caleb & Brent. I know it will come. About Progeny Press, I hadn't thought about that. I think that would be a great idea to get her digging deeper with what she is reading. Thanks!
  16. Yes I have thought about adding in Latin from the begining. I have Prima Latina & Latina Christiana 1. I think I will pull them from the shelf and take a look at them. Thanks for you in-put:001_smile:
  17. Where can you purchase this one?
  18. My kids loved this cd for two whole weeks until their unorganized mom lost it. It's been two years and I still can't find it:glare: . The kids still talk about it to this day:001_huh:
  19. I think I have science pinned down. If we go with MFW CtG then we'll use the science that goes with the program. If we use HOD Preparing than I'll go with that science. Although I am tempted to use WP Rock Around the Earth (hope I got the name right) because my boys love rocks, but then again we didn't use the Bugs one from last year yet:tongue_smilie:
  20. Help them find the clues in the patterns. Like when counting by 9's. 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90. Notice how the first number goes up but the 2nd number goes down. Not all have some trick but the ones that do help. Write the skip counting numbers on index cards and practice putting them in order. Show them on a numberline. HTH,
  21. If you could only use one math program which would you choose and why? I really like both but I'm tired of trying to combine. Joshua would like to stick with R&S, Annette likes Singapore, so no combining there:). My younger ones are the ones I'm trying to decide. I know each child is different and you have to go with which one is best for that child, but I would like your in-put too:D. I have R&S Math for 1-3rd grade that are not being used anymore and am wondering if I should get rid of them or keep them because we have four more dc. Thanks,
  22. I am currently using R&S 3 with my 8yr. old dd who will be 9 in Sept. and in 3rd grade (late B-day) According to a recent assessment she has a word recognition of a high 8th grade. Phonics Word Analysis of mid 4th. Maximum they could get on this is high 4th. Mastered all phonics Oral Vocabulary (Word meaning) is mid 3rd Reading Comprehension is mid 7th My question is do you think I should continue to have her do a formal reading program like R&S? The workbooks are great and that is why I have continued with it, but now I'm wondering if it's a lot of busy work. Should I have her continue to use the readers and skip the workbooks, maybe move onto something with more Vocabulary since that is what she scored the lowest on? Should I let her just do free reading and assign things from her Science & History books? My 10 yr. old soon to be 5th son Word Recognition was mid 5th Phonics Word Analysis mid 4th. Maximum they can get on this is high 4th. He to has mastered all his phonics except mulit-syllable Oral Vocab is mid 3rd Reading Comprehension (Silent Reading) is low 8th Would Drawn into the Heart of Reading be a better fit for both of them? I guess what I'm trying to ask is if I should continue with formal Reading program or do something different? Thanks in advance:001_smile:
  23. I have used them alone for 1st grade but once they hit 2nd grade I add in R&S Phonics 2. As much as I love ETC I prefer the way R&S teaches phonics. If it's over kill for my dc to use both I'll drop ETC. HTH,
  24. Here is what we are using for 5th Grade: Grammar/writing- R&S 4 along with A Journey Through Grammar Land (minus the scrolls/workshee) I'm just adding it in to spice things up now and then. I really think R&S will be plenty. Math-R&S 4 & Math-it Spelling- A Reason for Spelling Level C (he is not a great speller) Reading- Drawn into the Heart of Reading by Heart of Dakota Read Alouds/History/Bible/Art/Science/Greek Roots- MFW CtG
