  1. I think it depends on each individual person and how they teach. For me what is in the WWE book does not come naturally for me. I wouldn't be able to use it without the workbooks. I am the type of person who also needs things to be scheduled in a step by step plan like the WWE workbooks. I love how it's scripted, the passages are all there and the student pages are ready for me to pick up and go. I would love to use WWE with my 5th grader but because there is not a workbook yet for level 3 & 4, I'll continue with Writing Strands. For me purchasing the workbook and using the student pages for the rest of my dc is a BIG time saver and a way to get it done :) HTH,
  2. My son just finished reading Flaming Arrows. My son was reading the boxcar children like crazy before this. He was way behind in reading until he started reading The Boxcar Children. Now he is at about of above grade level and seeing him read a book like Flaming Arrows it a dream. I thought the day would never come :)
  3. I had planned to use FLL 3 & 4 and switch to R&S 5.
  4. Are there games that they play once they finish the lesson? Thanks!
  5. We do "Summer" school. Most everything is done orally and read alouds. The kiddos do play a lot more. For Summer school the kiddos do math orally, Queenshomeschool for LA. We just started adding in cursive practice, history and science but those are the fun stuff that the kids don't consider school;)
  6. You can start without the TM. All the reading passages, narration, dictation and what you are to say(scripted) is in the workbook. The TM (WWE) is great if you have the time to do all the footwork. Like you mentioned getting it later is fine. I have both and since the workbooks has everything I don't see myself picking up the TM much.
  7. For those of you who are planning on purchasing the New American Cursive and want to save money Startwrite is selling it here. You can print out your own sheets. I was going to buy the copybook at $22.95 but found this for $29.95. A lot less expensive when you need four of them. HTH,
  8. My 8yr. old dd enjoys PLL but I also like FLL too. MFW recomends PLL 3x a week, maybe you can combine;). They are both very gentle in my opinion. I personally liked PLL better but I like those old yester year books:001_smile:. Natalie has a point though some of the lessons we did skip. Blessings,
  9. "For me" if I had to choose it would be the workbook. I have both and I like the workbook because it's scripted & everything is there. I don't have to find passages or figure things out on my own:001_smile: I'll double check in the morning, but there was a thread that mentioned you don't 'have' to have both. I'll have to see if I can find it tomorrow. I think it depends on what you want. I need the day by day instruction, telling me what to do. WWE alone wouldn't work for me. HTH,
  10. www.Christianbook.com www.timberdoodle.com www.rodandstaffbooks.com www.sonlight.com (I have a lifetime of free shipping & 10% off, so I buy quiet a few things there) www.mfwbooks.com (MFW) I like to support them, so if they have a book and I'm putting in an order I'll buy it from them. www.rainbowresource.com only if I'm ordering over $150.00 for free shipping. I'm sure there is more but that's all I can think of right now. Blessings,
  11. :iagree: I agree with this. My dc are currently using The Reading Lesson and ETC for reinforcement. My dc who might use ETC online would be a soon to be 7yr. and my soon to be 8ry. My 6yr. is using ETC 1 & my 7yr. is using the half books 1 1/2 right now. They are the soon to be kids;) mentioned. I was considering signing up my 5.5yr old but I don't think he's ready yet. He is doing ETC book A. I'll probably end up paying full price mid year :glare:
  12. I see what you mean and you didn't come across rude. Here is my take on this and my first post got lost so this is a post in a hurry now:glare: A two year old wouldn't know what sap is but an almost five or mature four year old would. I think that if it took 4 clicks to get the right answer that the program knows that the child didn't get it and will not move them on. If for intance the child got the answer in 1 maybe 2 clicks than it's showing that the child is understanding it, therefor moving the child on. When using the workbook if the child misses we the parent guides him to the write answer. Not exactly the same as random clicking but hopefully I'm getting my point across;) Anyway, all that to say I like the workbooks too, but ETC online would be nice to do 3x a week. My 7yr old, who is starting ETC 1 didn't like it :( I'm going to see if Brent my 6yr. old does before I hit the purchase button. Blessings,
  13. Thanks, Click HERE and scroll down. In the blue shaded area it says ""Current Quantity Ordered"
  14. My kids are allowed five hours a week, but that's with dvd's not cable. We have cable but rarely watch it. IMHO the commercials are awful. Sometimes you don't even know what they are selling until the end when they show the perfume bottle. And the preview of showe. Yikes! We can't even watch Animal Planet without some kind of yucky preview.
  15. Thanks! I thought I would bump this up. I lost my Focus on the Family magazine and it took me forever to find this ;)
  16. Right now the ETC Online is $40.00 with a co-op fee of $5.00. I'm assuming that they only charge the co-op fee once. If 26 or more sign up than it's $35.00 pluse the one time fee for this special $5.00. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone:001_huh:
  17. I would like to start in Sept. to, but I'm afraid it might not get as many people as the Aug. one.
  18. Ann, Is the online exactly like the workbook pages? Same pictures and everything.
  19. Sometimes all they need is a break. Stop for a few weeks or even a month and then try it again. Sorry, I haven't used the program, so no advice there:001_huh:
  20. :lol:I tell my kids this at least once a day and everyone bust up laughing.
  21. I don't know if you would really call this a motto:glare: but ours is "Salt & Light" because education is very important, but being salt & light on this earth is what I'm praying for my dc to be. Our school name is Soaring Heights Academy.
  22. :iagree: with this. With my first three I didn't do spelling in first grade. This year we are using AAS so I thought I would try it with my first grader too. FYI: My first grader is 7yrs. old (late B-day)
  23. Thank you. Hmmm....still deciding:001_huh:
  24. :iagree: I was looking this over today and it would take up a lot of time. You would have to write out all the sentences for him to circle things, diagrams and so forth. Way too much work (for me anyway;))
  25. This will be my first year doing spelling in first grade and we are going to use All About Spelling. My dd used R&S spelling last year and enjoyed. I was going to have her use R&S again but I rather all the kiddos use the same spelling. R&S actually start spelling in 2nd grade.
