  1. If your going to use MFW for reading than I would go with MFW1st Grade & Adventures. One thing I like about MFW is it's not overwhelming. If you go this route your 6yr old can sit in on some of the Adv. reading. Than the year after they would both to ECC and continue together. If you have a reading/phonics program already than put them both in Adv. Eventually you repeat the 5yr cycle for your younger ones. This year I will have my 1st grader use MFW1st & my two older kiddos using MFW GtG. What's great about MFW 1st grade is it's a complete curriculum. You don't need to add anything to it. Your older child can sit in on the Science experiments too. Blessings,
  2. Thank you ladies. I'm going to try some of the samples with my kiddos. I showed this to my dh and he liked it. Although I can't use it this year because I just finished buying all I needed days before I found this program :( Maybe next year I will start Caleb & Brent than pull in the younger ones when they are ready. I love how everything is pulled together. Blessings,
  3. What grades are you using this for? About how mucht time, teacher intensive etc. is it? I like how they focus on a character quality each month & the weekly copywork passage.
  4. Thanks Kris, it seems nice to have all of LA's in one manual. This is one thing I miss about Calvert. One manual. Blessings,
  5. I don't know how close "Serious Phonics Training for an Older Child" is to SWR, but it says it excels as a spelling program. You need windows to use it.
  6. Has anyone ever used this? It'a a complete language arts program recomended by Timberdoodle for large famlies (I'm sure any size family could use it though;) )teaching multiple grades. It look interesting. I can't use it this year because I already purchased everything but am interested ;)
  7. I would like to add that my 10yr old son does take forever to finish his school work compared to his 8yr. old sister. She will sit there do her math, spelling, english etc. and be done with it. Josh would barely be done with one subject. His mind wonders a lot. His room is organized though:glare: My 7yr. son is always hungry as well as my 6yr old son. All my boys so far have started sounding out words at the end of 5yrs. and start reading, reading at 7yr. and my now 10yr old is at grade level for the first time:hurray: My dd on the other hand took of with reading at age five. She is 8 and reads better than her 10yr old brother. She is a natural speller unlike her older brother:001_unsure:. She is also very bossy:toetap05:. I have been reading a book that talks about how boys and girsl brains are wired different. Very interesting. I'm thankful we get to homeschool our boys. I can't imagine my boys sitting for 7yrs a day:eek:. Blessings,
  8. With my 5, 6, & 7yr. old boys do some school orally. We take about 15minutes of sit down time per subject. We probably do about an hour of school with my 6 & 7yr. which includes Reading/Phonice (The Reading Lesson) Math (Singapore or Online Math) Writing (will start in the Fall with WWE for one & MFW1st for the other) Spelling we haven't started yet:001_rolleyes: My 5yr. is coloring the letter that we are working on, listening to a song with that letter, Pre ETC book (coming soon) & will start Singapore Early Bird soon. My 4yr. doesn't really do school, but he colors the same pages as my 5yr. old. History/Science/Bible we do, but these subjects are too fun to fall under "school":001_smile: Around here it gets pretty wild:001_huh:. I am trying to stick to a schedule and am working on one this month. Hopefully it will be done by the Fall. Lots of time for legos, lincoln logs, blocks, running & jumping are part of our school too:D
  9. I just purchase a few days ago. I can't wait to look at it. :D
  10. I know, it's going to get confusing with these two. So if we are talking about The Homeschool Library we should us THSL? Sounds good. Susan should put a sticky post, so people will know there are two HSL out there.
  11. SL=Sonlight HSL=HomeSchool Library there is also The Homeschool Lounge that might start confusing people, unless their is a difference that I don't know about:glare: Heather was talking about The Homeschool Library though:D
  12. Today I'm giving my dh my debit card:001_unsure: I have everything I need for this school year and I need to save the money for another year now. I'm only going to ask for it if I need to replace a consumable workbook;) My dh is more like you I think ;). Taking him to buy a coffee pot, oh my goodness:lol:. We spend more on the gas going from Target, JC Penny etc. all that and we ended up getting one from Overstock:D. Blessings,
  13. Thanks Merry, that's great to hear how your son like it. I haven't been to the HSL yet. I'm wondering about the magnet boards. They look big and teaching four kiddos. Yikes! Hopefully I don't need a magnet board for each one:001_huh:
  14. If I'm using this with 4 dc do I need four magnet boards?
  15. Thanks! I'll ask her about it. I need to stop being an impulsive buyer:001_huh:
  16. I just bought all four levels of All About Spelling:001_huh: for my dc. I tried the Spawlding (sorry if I spelled it wrong) method years ago and couldn't figure it out, so when this was suggested I took a peek (yikes) Looking for some reviews from those of you that have used it. I'm really hoping this will work for my ds who is 10yrs but spells at a 1st grade level. I will also use it with three others this Fall. Thanks!
  17. I signed my son up for this last year and decided to cancel for a partial refund. I emailed three different people three different times through out the year and to this day I haven't heard from them:confused:. Just make sure that you really want to do it because you may not hear from them if you would like a refund. I wasn't even asking for a full refund, even though I asked for my refund before the class started. Blessings,
  18. So there is still one question unanswered :confused1: Can you get by with the WWE Text and the Student Worksheets that are selling for $11.95? I am still keeping m workbook though, but just to clarify for others:leaving: Editing: Kel & I were typing at the same time and she answered the above question. Makes sense ;) Thanks!
  19. Same here :ack2: I bought both. If I would have know I would have only purchased the Workbooks:glare: Oh, well at least I don't have to wonder if I missed anything.
  20. I understand that we need the WWE Text. The workbook provides the the copywork and so forth but what I think Nicole is asking is; can she get by with the WWE Text and the Student Pages and not purchase the Workbook? Is that what you are asking Nicole? Since I don't have it all in front of me I can't answer:confused: Sorry if I'm confusing things more:001_unsure:
  21. Hmmm....I didn't think about that. Yikes! I'm confused again:001_huh:. But to tell you the truth, I like the looks of the workbook :)
  22. Thanks ladies, I get it now:001_smile:. I am so glad that they have this. This is one thing I don't like about other curriculums because you have to smash your book down on the copier and I always have a black line on one side. No matter how careful I am. I prefer it to be copied for me and I love that PHP has that option:D Blessings,
  23. Eeeks! I have been looking this over and love it but like you mentioned it does look teacher intensive. I am using R&S 4 for my 5th grader and 3 levels of WWE so I'm kind of intimidated here, but also looking forward to it.:001_unsure:
