  1. Just thought I would ask;) I'm using MFW CtG with SOTW & Kingfisher. I have Jen's SOTW & Kingfisher schedule which is wonderful by the way, but I was wondering if anyone has done a schedule to go along with MFW:glare: Blessings,
  2. My dd is going to be 9 and she is only in 2B, but I did have her finish the Intensive and Challenging Word Problems.
  3. Sometimes we would do the workbook orally and other days I will have them do the workbook on their own. If we did the work orally I would write that on the top of the page. I would read over the lesson manuals the night before but would still use it during our lesson time. I would read the stories straight from the TM. HTH,
  4. I would just start with the Bible and add coloring pages for the younger years. Do a week on creation then start SOTW from there.
  5. I didn't read all the answers so please forgive me if I'm repeating. I used SOTW when my now 5th grader was in 1st grade. Because sometimes you couldn't tell when the story was switching to myths I would let my ds know that this is not true but what 'they' believed. I would also explain that they didn't know God and so there for got their stories mixed up because they are so similar to some of the Bible stories. It was a time of good discussion with him and even today he remembers them (the talks we had) We discussed how these stories where passed down from generation but because they were lost the stories changed and added gods. I'm not explaining myself very well but you get the picture ;) When I'm discussing this with my dc it sounds better. Another thing is we are also reading the stories from God's Word which they know is true history. I tried MOH when my dc were younger but it didn't stick so I stopped and might add it in now that they are older. HTH,
  6. Thank you ladies so much. All your replies have really helped. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one with a horrible speller entering the logic stage:) I'm going to look into your suggestions. Blessings,
  7. Wow! You all are making me think (AGAIN:D) I was planning on for our 1st Semester 1 outline for history per week 1 outline for science per week 1 Copywork (since he can't spell) per week R&S writing assignments For 2nd Semester I was going to add to the above with some narration/writing from history, science and readers. Back to my WTM book :glare: Although my son isn't a good writer. He's getting better but still not a 'good' writer.
  8. My 5th grade son (10yrs.) spells at a 2nd grade level. Anyone else have a poor speller. I am praying that All About Spelling will help him. We have tried Spelling Power, Spelling Workout, Sequential Spelling and R&S. He does copywork about once a week and I'm thinking of making that twice a week. He also reads at a high 4th grade level. Has good comprehension high 8th. Anyway, not sure what I'm asking but wondering how other's who have dc struggle in this area handle the Logic stage if they can't spell. Blessings,
  9. www.spellingtime.com lets you customize the spelling list and the child gets to play a game once the lesson is done.
  10. It seemed only yesterday that I was reading The Well Trained Mind for the first time and thinking I have lots of time before the Logic stage:lol:. My oldest was going to be a first grader at that time. Now he is 10yrs old and in 5th grade. I have been reading my WTM book concerning this stage again and it's a bit overwhelming. Reading post here has really helped. I'm not the smartest cookie so the Logic stage seems kind of scary. Thank goodness for SWB's book and all your help. How many of us have children entering the "Logic Stage"? I would love to hear your plans. For starters I am going to have Josh go through "Teaching Students How to Read Nonfiction" and "Beginning Outlining". We are going to combine MFW CtG with SOTW and KF. I plan to do all the reading in MFW but have Josh do SOTW & Kingfisher. Once he finishes with Beginning Outlining I will have him outline from SOTW and other books. After reading he can enter all the dates on our timeline. I'll also pick out what important dates he is to memorize this year. Grammar; R&S 5 Math: MUS Delta & Epsilon Reading: Progeny Press but I'm not sure about this since he will be reading a lot more in History & Science. Mind Benders starting with A1 Spanish and Greek Roots. I think I am going to start Latin in the 7th grade using The Latin Road to English Grammar Spelling: All About Spelling Level 1 & 2 Science: Sonlight 5 (human body) I haven't got this yet and am still reading TWTM concerning this area. Art: God & the History of Art (MFW) Music going along with MFW I hope I am covering everything.
  11. Thanks Colleen. This was very sweet of you to find the links and info. Blessings,
  12. I tried finding some old threads regarding outlining something other than Kingfiher and couldn't find them. Also do you have a link to Christine's blog. I tried finding that too. I'm so glad I read this thread I was going to have my son outline from Kingfisher. One last question. Where is a link about SWB revised WTM book. I tried looking for that too:glare: I feel so out of the loop;) Thanks!
  13. I just purchased this and can't wait to start with my 10yr. old son.
  14. Not sure if I answered the questions right, but I tried joining. Now to figure the html code:001_huh: Edited: I just got my email and noticed that I put in the wrong answer for ring ID. Sorry. Hope you still get it.
  15. I like scripted. Must be why I like WTM material so much;)
  16. My kiddos are all a year apart. My oldest was five and the sixth was an infant. Currently they are in 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, K & pre-k. It gets hectic but it can be done. I try to combine History & Science. With my pre-k we really don't do school. I just read to him a lot. My K student will start Pre ETC books and The Reading Lesson. I was going to use Singapore Math for him but decided to use and online math program for K. My house doesn't look like Better Homes and Gardens :001_huh: As the kids get older they can help. Mine empty and load the dishwasher, wash their clothes (most the time) empty the trash, pick up the livingroom, clean the guest bathroom and so forth. It still gets messy though and sometimes my dh has to take charge:tongue_smilie: You can homeschool, right now your probably so exhausted from being prego. With my oldest for K all we did was phonics because I was so tired all the time. This is my fourth year not being prego and I'm finally getting my energy back. Well actually I started getting my energy back last year;). Just relax and feed the children Cheerios for dinner:) I sometimes cook hamburger meat and freeze it for later use or make twice as much for another dinner. I'll have to come back and post later. We just finished watching the Olympics and I need to go to bed. I'm a night owl. Saturdays are my sleep in days. The kids know this and are really good about helping each other with their cereal.
  17. I start everyone different. I like to ease into school and nobody cares anyway when they start;) We have actually been schooling through the Summer with a lighter load, but I have been adding more in for my 5th grader and will start adding more for my other kiddos too. Hopefully we'll be in full swing by the end of Sept. Blessings,
  18. This is the one we use but I purchase it at Christian Light Education . It's great for learning about the weather. It includes teacher helps in the back.
  19. I can't believe we are returning to the Ancients. It seems like yesterday we were making the Nile River. We are using SOTW Vol. 1 old version with cd & activity pages. This will be the 2nd time for my oldest because we used this in his 1st grade year. He has listened to the cd many time in between at least once a year. He still enjoys listening so this year I am going to have my 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 5th grader sit in on listening to the cd's. We have the Kingfisher, Usborne books and other books from our 1st time around with SOTW, but am wondering if I need to add anything for my 5th grader. Do I need to get another history spine or is SOTW okay? Even though we have used it before he really enjoys it and is looking forward to the activity pages. Side Note:We are are also using MFW CtG mostly for the Bible/Art/Music portion. I wanted to add more history and decided to go with SOTW again.
  20. I have Vol. 1 & 2 and Activity pages before the revised and 1, 2 & 3 on cd the old ones read by Barbara ??? Concerning the History Books & Activity pages is there a major change? Eventually I'll end up with the new ones because I usually by a complete core from MFW, SL or WP and they all use SOTW at one time or another, so how do they line up with the cd's. If I have new books but the old cd's? Thanks!
  21. I have three dc using this cursive program and they all like it. I asked which they liked better Queens or the one we were using before and they all said Queens. I like that they are studying a picture. We will talk about the picture a little. I have been wanting to do picture study with the kids but it always seems to fall through the cracks and this has helped. Blessings,
  22. I forgot to add that he is doing Daily Grams 2 because he always forgets about capitals. He knows what needs to be capitalized but forgets. Plus it has parts of speech, combining sentences and practice with punctuation marks. I started him using Daily Grams 3 but switched to 2. I have Easy Grammar 3 and like the whole preposition thing so I am also having him memorize those to. Blessings,
  23. My 10yr old is currently using Language Lessons for the Elementary Child 2 along with Daily Grams 2. He hasn't had too much grammar but I have always added in something every year. 1st grade FLL, 2nd grade half of FLL 2nd part, 3rd grade Calvert & 4th we using Queenshomeschool along with Daily Grams 2 and learning the prepositions. In the Fall for his 5th grade year we are going to use R&S 5. Language Lessons for the Elementary Child has worked well for my son. He does two lessons a day and when copywork is assigned I have him copy the paragraph and do a lesson in grammar too. For instance today he will do a copy lesson 65 and continue with lesson 72 which is Creative Writing with Adverbs. HTH,
  24. If this is the correct Voyages there is a co-op going on HERE HTH,
  25. Sounds about right to me;) When we used Calvert it took us about 3hrs. for their 2nd grade program. 1hr for Calvert 1st, but we dropped everything but LA's & Math
