  1. I think you will be fine. My dd used half of FLL the first part and currently is using Language Lessons for the Elementry Child. I plan for her to start FLL 3 next month. She will be 9 in Sept. HTH,
  2. I don't mean this to sound 'preachy' but bringing everything back to the Bible works for us. From the time they are little I teach them that we live for the Lord. Everything we do is for Him. Even our school work, chores etc. I read them Bible verses about being grateful, lazy etc. My dd loves Proverbs she has told me there is lot of wisdom in that book. One time we were working on being more cheerful and when the kids or I would see someone (in our own household) acting being grumpy we would say a verse or something funny or just "I caught you being grumpy". And it worked after a week of this the kids were a lot more cheerful and looking for ways to be more cheerful. In fact I tell my kids that these rules are from God's Word and I need to teach them to you and again we read verses backing that up;) because the Bible does say to respect, love one another, be a servant, teaches on anger, taking care of our bodies etc. We need to be obedient to the Lord and when your acting this way you are not pleasing God or mom. I know some of this sound harsh but it's all said in a loving way and it's woven into our lives. I am not saying all this all day everyday but bits and pieces. I tell them that God gives us the 10 Commandments because he loves us not to boggle us down with rules. Blessings,
  3. I am trying to combine my dc when I can. With so many subjects this coming school year I feel overwhelmed:001_huh: I have a soon to be 8yr. & 9yr. old. I have FLL 3 for my 9yr. but I'm thinking of also getting one for my 8yr. old. My 8yr. old will use WW1 & FLL 3. My 9yr. will use FLL 3 & WW2. Does it matter if the levels are off between FLL & WWE? They both have had some grammar. Annette is finishing with Queenhomeschool Language for the Elementary Child. Caleb 8yr. old pretty much has learned from when we talk. I'll say that is a noun or that chair is singular but we have many chairs which is plural and so forth.
  4. They have great products but their customer service stinks! I am one to usually give companies a chance. Like with WP since they are so new I have almost had all my orders with something back ordered or missing, but their customer service is good. All I want is someone to respond. My online class was over a hundred dollars and what gets me more than the money is they were quick to respond before I paid. I had some questions about the course I emailed them by the next day they emailed me back. I don't buy pizza from Papa Johns anymore because they don't have good customer service either. They don't answer their phone in a friendly manner, no please or thank you. In fact I am thanking them at the end of the phone order. It's crazy  but that's another thread;)
  5. Mine is of my Sweets and me taken at Sears a year ago. Last week I actually took a close up of myself for my sister and I liked it but I'm so use to having my dh in the picture now:001_smile:
  6. Heather, you look too young to have a 10yr. old son:001_smile:
  7. If you have Abeka/Bob Jones already I would go with that and just be consistent with her schooling. It doesn't have to be long but consistent. Another option would be to try something that would get her started a little quicker, sort of a boost and then have her return to Abeka/Bob Jones. I am currently using The Reading Lesson with my 5.5, 6 & 7yr old. The 6 & 7yr. old will be 7 & 8 by the time school starts. It doesn't boggle the child down with a lot of rules. It just concentrates on them reading. For instance it doesn't give a rule for ur, ir but it does tell the child the sounds. Once my kiddos are done with this I will start them with R&S Phonics 2 for getting those rules down. I didn't buy all the bells & whistles with this. I just purchased the book. But if it's just a blending issue and she knows how to read than maybe just being consistent with what you currently have will do the trick. You know my kids like Alpha Phonics too. It has lots of games. HTH,
  8. I have listened to many of David Hazell cd's and he explains why there is World History. I'm not to good with explaining things hear and I need to listen to that one again. Hopefully Crystal with chime in. You can ask about over at the MFW forums and they can explain :D I can't wait to get to American History to find out what happened. Concerning your question, I think you can switch with out any problems. I used SL Pre K, K, 1 & 2 and switched over to MFW fine. I have SL 4 but can't compare it to MFW because we are not there yet.
  9. I think it has enough drill. They can't move onto the next level until they can answer all the facts (unless you manually move them forward). The whole time they are moving up in the game they are answering a multiplication. If they miss they have to repeat. They also have to answer the facts in a certain amount of time. I also like that they are getting drilled and I don't have to drill them myself. This is a lot more fun and it frees me up to school another child. My kids have a timer set for 20-30 minutes and they just do what they can within that time. My kids don't have Nintendo, play station etc. and don't normally get to play video games so this is really cool to them. Wanted to add that I paid $5.00 extra to have the cd sent to me, just incase my computer crashed or something. We don't usually back everything up. I know we should ;)
  10. Yes, my kiddos and I both think it's worth the upgrade. They love Lava Land and Robot World (not sure if those are the real names, kids and I call them that:001_smile:) My kids play this almost every day and love trying to get to the next level. I was afraid that they would tire of it but they haven't. I'm on level 7 ;)
  11. I have purchased some but haven't used them yet. Hopefully next month we'll start the Pippi Longstocking one. I actually blogged about it HERE. If you do order ask for a catalog because the Guides say "Reproduction Prohibited" but the catalog gives you permission to copy them. I'm going to take mine to FedEx Kinkos and they would need to see that it's okay to make copies.
  12. Thanks for the site. My ds will start this sometime this year and this looks very helpful.
  13. We don't have the luxury of TIVO;) but is this same Liberty Kids? My kiddos have been watching them from my computer. Hope it's the same:glare:
  14. I won't purchase from Memoria Press anymore. I signed up for their online course. Had some questions about it. They promptly answered. I paid, but a month later a week before the class started I asked for a refund a partial one for that matter. I wasn't even asking for the total amount. I emailed through out the year and to this day I have never heard from them. I emailed the 'teacher' for the class. I forgot the mans name but anyway they never contacted me. I read all the terms and conditions before purchasing and you can cancel the class. Even if they didn't want to refund me the money they could have contacted me. Emailing them through out the year and Mermoria Press not responding is very bad customer service in my opinion. I have purchased hundreds of dollars from this company in the past.
  15. They are SUPER fast. Once I ordered and the next day I had my stuff. They have reps I think in every state. My rep is only a city away.
  16. I don't quite understand this whole thing. So what do the kids do when your with one or are some more independent? our Math would be Math 1 Delta Math 2 Singapore Math 3 Beta Math 4 Singapore Math 5 Calvert K Language Arts ds 1 R&S 5 DD 2 FLL 3 DS FLL 3 DS 4 Writing ..............and the rest of our subjects and so forth until I have all my subjects down. Then I start and where ever we are at when the 3hrs are up, we quit and start the next day. Is that right?
  17. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if you can still purchase this in print:confused:
  18. Maybe you can take a year and a half to complete RtR or take three weeks to complete 2wks worth of MFW. Than skip or skim over some of it. Just some thoughts. We are currently using CtG.
  19. Misty, the link didn't work for me:confused: Also does anyone have any threads or old post about this. Sounds interesting? Thanks!
  20. Another idea would to purchase only the TM & Dvd for Beta. Have her watch the dvd because he will show how to manipulate the block but he also gives idea or tricks to memorize the facts. Once done with watching the dvd have her play with the blocks. You can make cards with the facts used and drill her. And through out the day ask her "what's 9+3?". To bad we weren't neighbors, I would let you borrow our math stuff. We have tons, Math-it, Times Tables the Fun Way, Addition the Fun Way, Right Start games (haven't used them yet even though I bought them 1.5yrs ago:001_huh:) Calculadder and that's just the beginning:tongue_smilie:
  21. Thanks for the timeline. I'm always trying to figure out where to put them.
  22. This is where you "mom" comes in. My kids know that the Bible is God's Word. It says in Timothy God Breathed. It wasn't written by man but by God. Yes, he used man but it's God's Word. SOTW has fairy tales, myths and so forth are just that "Fairy Tales" (made up by man or parts taken from the original stories the Bible) but it's what the ancient civilization believed. They are similar to the Bible because of the descendants from Noah and other's who eventually started worshiping other gods, thus myths, fairy tales etc. The stories that are true will be in the Bible and you can open your Bible and read it to your dc. Of course if you don't feel comfortable with SOTW than don't use it. My kids were okay with it in 1st grade but every child is different. Some may be more sensitive. Well got to go, my kids want lunch;) Blessings,
  23. I had the textbook and the workbook but sold the text because I like how the workbook has everything there for me. It's pick-up and go:001_smile:. I just plan to use the workbooks from her on out.
  24. Can your dd add and sub. with multiple digits? Do regrouping/carrying with add. & sub? Because that is what is covered in Beta and if she doesn't know how to do that than maybe you can purchase this used and start in the middle of the book if that's where she is. Have you looked at Addition the Fun Way? It has stories to help the child remember there addition facts. Use tricks to help her for instance with the nines 9+7 go back one with the 7 which would be a 6 teen and so forth. 16 also adds up to 7, 1+6. To catch her up to speed with mult. there is a free online 'real' video game called Timez Attack and my kid love it. My two older ones are really speeding up with mult. using this. It does have an org or somtime of monster but my kids are okay with that ;) If your dd can ado double digits and so forth than moving her to Gamma would be fine and watching the dvd shows how to use the manipulates. She would have no problem with using them if she hasn't started from the begining with MUS. HTH,
