  1. I 2nd the adjustment time suggestion. Our 1st year was an adjustment/experiment. We had a lot of struggle and it took a while to figure out what worked. We are new to wtm so next year will be our first classical style year. We are using mfw so not exactly wtm but it sort of fits with the third grade time frame suggested by wtm. Anyway I guess it's up to what you want tp do. Pick up from 2nd grade or start back at ancients. Either way works.
  2. Yep my oldest is average. My ds I have a feeling will be ahead. The things he figures out on his own amazes.me.
  3. Thanks Michelle! We willdo lots of reading in this summer so hoping that will help. The harder books I'm keeping for later in the year.
  4. I think I finally have it figured out. Lol coming from a "reader " based program had my head spinning trying to figure out what to use and feel ok with just picking books to read! I've used books from a variety of lists so here we go. Feel free to critique or offer suggestions. My dd is on grade level reading but hasn't found the reading love. I wanted to start off with easier books and make our way to more challenging ones as we went along. Amelia bedelia (something fun to start) boxcar children the littles The owl who was afraid of the dark Charlotte's web Misty of chincoteague the borrowers Stuart little ballet shoes Homer price. Most are ones she's shown some interest in and others I've thrown in for her.not sure how many we will get through and I won't force it if she really dislikes one.
  5. Book Samaritan is great! We used them a few years ago and got our entire math programs free plus a ton of other stuff! Their ministry is a blessing.
  6. Spelling power! Rules, teacher led (for most) , 1 book for all levels, she stresses getting them to uze spellingin everyday writing so they use the words in sentences and pull in misspellings from writing.
  7. We are doing mfw next year. Very little planning needed. I think after much research I'm going to have my dd do the vp books for reading but not the comp guides.
  8. Really? That may help my dd! Was going to get more cubes for next year buut I think I'll get the rods!
  9. We are using mfw next year. Lots of fun hands on stuff there. I'm quite excited for it. Apologia isa good option for science as well.
  10. Mfw? Lots of hands on project and real books. You add la and math so you could still do rs and aas.
  11. They give a sample schedule of 8-11 then art and language after that. Hth some!
  12. My youngertwo are 18 months apart so I have contemplated the same. My oldest is doing mfw next year which you combine grades 2-8 for core subjects. This will be so nice when we get there. I plan on having ds start k @5 and dd2 when she's a few months shy of 5yo. All that to say that if combining works go for it!
  13. Looks good to me. I would use what you have . Wtm has lots of suggestions for extra reading.Latin is new to me too. We may try prima latina next year.
  14. Aas has been a major help! We are trying spelling power next year but if. I find it not working I will go back to aas.
  15. The tm is a must. There is a lot more in the tm than just the student book.
  16. We are using mfw next year so excited for it! We are going to be starting the 4year cycle for my oldest in 5t grade. So it will look something like this 3rd us history with adventures 4th ecc (world geography /cultures) 5th ancients 6th middle 7th exp-1850 8th modern then start over for high school. The younger two will join the 4 year cycle when they get to second grade.
  17. Thanks for the comparison. Still can't decide. Lol:001_huh:
  18. So I've decided to use vp suggestions for third grade reading next year and my dd saw.several of their books that she's interested in. Yay! Onto the questions. Should we use the comprehension guides or just let her read them? Second, how.many for a year? I know it depends on the child but on average.
  19. I think they look fun! Especially for visual learners I think they help give a mental pictures of the word
  20. Lauri makes a letter puzzle that is foam I believe That may help her get the tactile part of the letters down or even wooden magnetic letters. If she is that frustrated I woul take a break and just let her.relax about it. My oldest gets quite frustrated with math. We take a break from the work if I see her getting upset. Like pp said, she may just not be ready even though she wants to. I also second bob books. Three sounds and they can read. Oh and maybe reading eggs? My ds loves it!
  21. Ooh I've been contemplating this myself. Didn't Teach my oldest (ps k) but I'd lile to start with my ds.I saw alphaphonics.a few years ago and it looked great.
