  1. Oh, how funny! I'm watching last night's episode right now. I really enjoy this show.
  2. This is the one I use. I friend bought me my first one probably eight years ago. I've been buying one every year since then. It works well for me.
  3. Where I work, we have to turn in a doctor's note anytime we are out for more than 2 days. I would suggest he/the mom get a doctor's note specifying the date he initially saw the doctor/went into the hospital and a possible date that he will be able to return to work. If the doctor's note needs to be changed or updated, that can be done later. There is no reason at all for the doctor's note to indicate any reason that your son is unable to work. He is under a doctor's care and that is all.
  4. When I was in junior high I noticed that my mom's chocolate chip cookies puffed up and were rounded. My grandma's chocolate chip cookies were flat. I found out that my grandma used butter/margarine and my mom used Crisco. Maybe it was a coincidence, but I made the assumption that there was a difference in how butter vs Crisco cookies turned out.
  5. Your dd and mine sound like they have the same interests. Dd is a total theater nerd and does not want an e-reader. In fact, a family member asked if she wanted a kindle for Christmas and she said no thank you. Family member got her a B&N gift card instead.:001_smile: My only thought is to get a couple of theater posters and have them framed for her room. Dd has one (Rent) and would love to have more.
  6. Took dd to doctor yesterday. She'd had upper respiratory symptoms for several days and then it went into her chest. I wanted to get a grip on it before she ended up with something like bronchitis. She has pneumonia. Be careful with yourself.
  7. Lee jeans are my favorites right now. Especially since they have them in "short". Kohl's, JP Penney, and Macy's have them. They go on sale quite often.
  8. Would you be willing to share the maple white chocolate cookie recipe. TIA
  9. We make snowmen kind of like these every year. But, we use white chocolate covered Oreos as the base. I used to have to dip regular Oreos, but now I can just buy them predone. We use either chocolate icing for the eyes and mouth or chocolate chips. This year we used regular sized chocolate chips for the eyes and mini chocolate chips for the mouth. We use M&Ms for the ear muffs. We use orange frosting for the nose. But, next year I'm going to look for the little carrot candies and use them. Just another possibility
  10. I posted about these on another thread. I made them for a cookie exchange on Thursday. I'd never made them before, but really like them. I hope everyone else does, too. I don't know why they're called "gingerbread" as they are more "ginger cookie": * Exported from MasterCook * Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies Recipe By : Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cookies Holidays Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1 1/4 tsp. ground ginger 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 c. butter -- softened 1 Tbsp. freshly grated ginger 1/2 c. lightly packed light brown sugar 1/2 c. molasses 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. hot water 1 pkg. semisweet chocolate chips -- (12 oz.) Using a small cookie scoop (a melon baller will also work), scoop out dough and roll into 1 1/2" balls. Roll the balls in sugar to coat; place on prepared cookie sheets. Bake @ 325 degrees for 10-12 minutes until the cookie surfaces begin to crack. Cool on pans for 2-3 minutes; remove from pan to wire racks and cool completely. Makes about 3 dozen. 11. Carol, thanks for the tip! I've never been a fan of sugar cookies because they are so dry and tasteless. I'm hoping that between Remudamom recipe and your tip that I'll find have great tasting sugar cookies.
  12. Thanks for the recipe! I love the pics! Now I need to see if I can find the star cookie cutters I bought several years ago.
  13. Ahhhh, how funny. I read this book in my early twenties and LOVED it. So much so that I still think about that book. My teen daughter read it and loved it. Maybe I should read it again and see what I think now that I'm MUCH older. You know how some books affect you and stay with you and other books you forget about almost immediately? This is a book that stayed with me. I can't think of any books I read this year that I hated.
  14. Thanks for all the instructions! I'd love the recipe that you used! Thanks, again.
  15. These sound waaaaaay cute! Do you ice all of them completely, or just use it as glue where it won't show? I'd like more details on how you do this, if you don't mind sharing.
  16. We're right there with you. We each have a lap top and a pay-as-you-go cell phone. That's it.
  17. We've had it every year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas probably since I was in junior high (long, long, long ago). My mom made it one year and my bil LOVED it, so we have it every year. My mom has always subbed a can of dill green beans (I hate dill) for one of the regular green beans and then tops the whole thing with frozen onion rings instead of the dried canned stuff. The onion rings are the only thing I like.
  18. Here are 3 that I've made: * Exported from MasterCook * Easy Cinnamon Bread Recipe By : Serving Size : 16 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Breads & Muffins Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 3 cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup sugar 2 teaspoons instant yeast 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup warm milk (i used skim) 1/4 cup butter -- melted 1 egg 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup cinnamon chips -- (6 oz) Cinnamon-sugar -- for topping In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, yeast, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, butter and egg. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, beating until smooth. Cover and let the batter rest at room temperature for 1 hour, then stir in the baking powder and cinnamon chips (i used a wooden spoon, then switched to my clean hands, though it was very MESSY!) Preheat oven to 350 deg. Spoon the batter (i used my already messy hands to do this) into greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pan. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar. Bake the bread for 35 to 40 minutes, until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean (mine was more like 40-45 min till it came out clean). Remove the bread from the oven, let it rest in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer it from the pan to a rack to cool completely. Don't slice the bread while it's hot; it will slice much better when it's completely cool. Yield: 16 slices Description: "This bread is a cross between a typical baking powder-leavened quick bread and a yeast bread. The result: a loaf that tastes like cinnamon coffeecake, wonderful served plain and incredible toasted." 19. I'll try to return it the next time I go. Thanks for the info.
  20. I bought it at Walmart and don't have my receipt. I think that they require you to have the receipt when returning something.
  21. We just got back from Costco. They had all 8 HP movies as a set on blu-ray for $79.99. I went ahead and bought them, but I bought the last movie on blu-ray a couple of weeks ago. It's unopened, so maybe I can gift it to a nephew or niece.
  22. 1. Serve the wine. I'm sure you are planning other beverages and those who don't want wine can drink something else. 2. When we have too many people to sit at the dining room table (Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, etc.) we add a card table or two at the end of the dining room table. We don't worry about matching table cloths. We just use whatever kind of goes together. It's so much nicer if everyone can sit together, even if it's really crowded.
