  1. Praying. I hope you are able to find peace and calm soon.
  2. This is how I have encouraged hs moms. Sometimes just getting together at a park and letting the kids run while you chat and let off steam really helps. There were days that I saw the school bus drive past my house and I wanted to yell at my kids, "Go! Run! Get on that bus!" On those days, it was encouraging for me to hear from respected hs moms that they had those days, too.
  3. I can't vote in the poll but I thought I'd chime in anyway. I do not read or write texts while driving. I've almost been hit one too many times by drivers who can't keep away from their messages.
  4. My neighbor still has a yard full of Christmas decorations, too. Maybe she's thinking that she is really ahead of the game for 2012. :D
  5. This is a really great book. I like the idea of being on the same team.
  6. I completely agree. I really liked IEW right from the start but it did take a while to hit a stride.
  7. These are all great ideas. We did all of this at one time or another, too. My kids enjoyed the different activities and it helped them engage a little more with the material.
  8. Definitely! Even if the online resources were adequate, nothing replaces speaking with native speakers and using the language on a daily basis. :)
  9. Congratulations! It sounds fabulous! I hope the move goes smoothly.
  10. For your newspaper advice column.... you could have the answer questions about cultural differences. Your question could be framed as "I am from the US and I'm planning a trip to ____." You could address things, such as the polite way to address people, differences in cuisine, grocery shopping, ticket buying, etc.
  11. Me too. I grew up with English and French and later added Spanish, German, and Russian. Just keep working at it and it will get better.
  12. Thanks for the information. I will write them with some questions about it.
  13. :iagree: We had a similar experience. I have two in college now that went through TT in high school. Both scored high enough on the ACT to skip some math classes and they're keeping up just fine in calc.
  14. I've done TT Alg 1 and 2 in one year with 3 of my children. It worked well for us and was completely doable. My older three were pretty motivated in math, though.
  15. If you mean by "starting over" that you're just going to take a new approach, I've done that many times. I've been homeschooling for 15 years. It's a learning process for both teacher/parent and child. I still tweak things here and there, depending upon the child's strengths and interests. For the first few years of homeschooling, I think I switched math curriculum every 6 months. My oldest is in college working on a double in chemistry and computer science - LOTS of math. Those early "starting over" years didn't hurt him at all. :)
  16. It might be a good introduction but you'll need more pretty quickly. Do you have a group that you can get together with and speak Spanish? Sort of like a mini-immersion experience a couple days a week? That would probably delay the need for a program a little longer.
  17. We used Sonlight and I'd do that all over again. All four of my children loved the books and learned. It was a great experience for us.
  18. We loved that book, too. It was so hard to put it down. Great story!
