  1. You should not feel bad at all. You were upfront with the pricing and threw in a little discount at the end. You've heard of the sentiment that goes something like "You might as well ask. The worst she can say is no." I bet that's what your friend was thinking when she asked. Let it roll off your back. You did nothing wrong. I agree with the others who said that your price is reasonable... especially with the discount you offered.
  2. I take (took - 2 graduates) a similar approach with my kids. It kept them interested in what we were doing. Even if they absolutely hated one of our "musts," they were able to get through it, knowing their choice was coming up soon. Why not let them explore what they are interested in?
  3. Мы едины...Давайте говорить As Cleo mentioned with French, I don't think there's a good literal translation in Russian. These phrases mean, literally, "We are united ...Let's talk." Communicate is общаться but I don't think that's the best translation here.
  4. Me too... even though I hated every second of it. I'm not an outliner at all, never have been. But everyone is different and I wanted my kids to have that tool if necessary.
  5. I couldn't have said it better myself. I totally agree, especially that the market is the core issue. Sad.
  6. The health insurance thing is so ridiculous. It makes no sense at all. Last year my son had his wisdom teeth out by the recommendation of an oral surgeon, two dentists and an orthodontist. The insurance company refused to pay the claim because it was unnecessary according to their dental consultant. Where do they find these people?!?!! I hope everything is resolved soon and, in the meantime, you can find calm in the storm.
  7. :iagree: That has been the best system for us, too. At 10yo, she's old enough to make sure things get turned in where they need to be.
  8. In my opinion, you (the teacher) really do need the TWSS DVDs. They provide the foundation for the theme books.
  9. I think this is a great suggestion. Also, since you and your son are familiar with IEW, you could take the IEW principles and apply them to whatever he is reading now in other subjects. This is the approach we decided upon after going through a similar frustration with writing programs. My older 2 are in college now and they both have done extremely well on their papers and other written communication. They both felt like IEW prepared them well for their classes.
  10. We are a Christian family homeschooling for academic reasons, not religious reasons. I am a full-time college student, along with my oldest 2, and continue to homeschool my younger 2. I don't think I fall within the "typical" political views of a homeschooler either.
  11. When mine were younger, that's how I did it, too. They were very motivated to get their list finished because there really wasn't anything else for them to do. Their to-do list included chores and schoolwork (assignments on their own and with me). For my family, it worked almost 100% of the time and everyone was finished with school before noon.
  12. I'm really sorry that you have to deal with those remarks. If you choose not to limit your family's time with this person, maybe you could just talk with your dc about those type of comments. I've had those discussions with my own children when they were young and when they heard those remarks, they would say something. Sometimes when it's "out of the mouths of babes," it causes a little more reflection.
  13. I don't have any suggestions beyond what has already been offered. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry and I'm glad you all are safe.
  14. It sounds like your son handled himself well. None of mine have ever been questioned. I notice a lot of kids out and about during school hours, though, so maybe the officers don't give it a second thought here.
