  1. They actually frequently make their way over to the U.K. a week or so after they are done with North America. Generally a pretty “gusty”rain storm by the time they arrive. Last I looked Dorian is potentially going over there too.
  2. I just took a picture of my blocks completed for the Animal Alphabet Quilt. I have a very long way to go!
  3. Have you looked at art classes for senior citizens? I was able to get Dd into a water color class that was essentially marketed to senior citizens and it was wonderful. She enjoyed it greatly and made a lot of friends, just not in the age group we were hunting for.
  4. Totally agree with being able to undo it. I know of two bedrooms with bathtubs in the U.K. so perhaps not uncommon there. Both have been remodeled in by the current owner.......one is a gigantic claw footed beauty with fabulous fabric screens available for privacy. @Laura Corin My one comment regarding house hunting in UK (though not Scotland) is the bedroom shapes can be so non standard that it is really helpful to see an actual bed in the room. One house we looked at had four bedrooms which appeared to be a win. Two were huge....as in two king sized beds would have probably fit in each but the other bedrooms were going to be challenged to even fit a single comfortably. Extremely long and narrow rooms which would be odd as a bedroom. One was an adorable sewing room and the other a very cool music room. After viewing that I always really look at the photos because I want three adult sized bedrooms and the easiest way is to see beds in place or at least a full sized couch.
  5. I think 6 was the biggest they ever saw on a regular basis. There was a family of 12 or so we saw very occasionally and never in total because they needed to bring two cars to move everyone......Dd had a pen pal with 8. One of my friend’s had 21 back in my school days.
  6. So glad your results came so quickly and were essentially good news, Sending more hugs and prayers your way.
  7. Thanks Kareni for the book links! I just finished my audiobook Zero Sum Game and have to say it was good. The main character is something beyond a mathematical genius who can calculate angles, trajectory, etc in split seconds. She is something very unusual......the book takes place in the near future and fits my alternate world 10x10. I liked the narration and just reserved the next in the series in book form because I need to know what happens next!
  8. These are so great! Acrylic paint right.......need to show my kids....
  9. Maybe this........http://kutv.com/news/get-gephardt/hacking-your-mail-thieves-may-be-diverting-packages-meant-for-your-porch Now that your address is theirs perhaps they can forward your mail?
  10. You need to cancel the credit card and notify your post office. You need to talk to the postal fraud people. No matter what they know way too much!
  11. Remember she can essentially carry her coat on to the plane either over her arm or wear it for a few minutes so it doesn’t have to be packed. I normally pack in groups of three for each category......so three trousers etc. that allows you to be wearing one pair, to have a dirty/unwashed pair, and a pair washed and drying.
  12. @tuesdayschild I just wanted to wave while you were on the boards! So glad you are enjoying spring to the fullest. I love spring flowers....... i did finish the Jean Baptiste Adamsberg spelling challenge........Many of these are rereads and a couple were novellas. J.......The Friend Challenge by Abby Jimenez E.......Plain Murder by Emma Miller A......Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews N......The Rogue by Night by Kelly Bowen B.......Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs A........Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson P........The Pawful Truth by Miranda James T........The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare I.........Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews S.........In Plain Sight by Linda Castello T..........Tiamat’s Wrath by James Corey E.........The Escape by David Baldacci A.........Magic Stars by Ilona Andrews D.........Layover by David Bell A.........White Hot by Ilona Andrews M.........The Mortal Word by Genevieve Cogman S..........Shamed by Linda Castillo B..........Boundary Broken by Melissa F. Olsen E..........Killed by Thomas Enger R..........Under Currents by Nora Roberts G..........The Golden Hour by Beatrix Williams
  13. I have been listening to Zero Sum Gamehttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37534869-zero-sum-game and enjoying it. I picked it because I need Science Fiction for my 10 category and so far it isn’t anything other than an above average detective novel but reviews assure me everything will change soon! 😂I think it will still work for my alternate world category. I am getting close to finished with Plain Murder https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17802752-plain-murder?ac=1&from_search=true which I have been reading for my” new to me cozy category”. @Junie I quite like this book so far with it’s formerly Amish main character. I am hoping that this book will finish my spelling challenge......I am still working on my Fred Vargas book.
  14. A bit late in the day but I do have a few more Brit Tripping posts to make....... Back in 2010 Brodsworth Hall hosted a series of free archeological lectures and my family attended. My kids were the only children in the audience and our family was by far the most inquisitive.😂. Over the course of a month or so we learned quite a bit about the current structure and the previous house which was also quite grand but out of fashion in the opinion the new very rich heir. A new house was built and the old was completely demolished ...... it was previously explored by the same archeology team. There are pictures of both houses in this link. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/brodsworth-hall-and-gardens/history/ The project that year was to find the gate between the Saxon Church that was still standing and the old hall. I wasn’t able to get in to the church this summer but have been to a few fund raisers there over the years. It is a well maintained village church that serves really nice cakes.😉. This link has great detail about the details of the church https://www.crsbi.ac.uk/site/3390/ along with a few pictures to illustrate what they are talking about............. Back to the search for the gate.........several Saxon bodies were found in what had been considered outside the churchyard much to the delight of my kids. They never got to so the bones but were very interested and did dig for about five minutes one day. 😂 If you look at the laurel bush (new since dig) to the left of the tower the bodies were approximately there. Part of the tower is thought to be the original Saxon Church. They did find the gate eventually.....
  15. Can’t wait to try Popeye’s Spicy sandwich. The guys in the family love CFA and I am ambivalent regarding the chicken. The soup is good.😉 Their service cannot be beat. I recently watched this comparison on YouTube ......https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GSsJzbFI3dk
  16. It’s beautiful! Totally in awe ........ I definitely want to see the finished project! The Harry Potter quilts will be a combination of blocks from the quiltalong found https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.com/2018/12/harry-potter-quilt-along-2019.html at these websites and blocks over at Fandom in Stitches (which also has other themed blocks like LotR). I plan to just start producing blocks and let my kids grab what they like best........ Alice in Wonderland is from this blog http://www.quiltingmod.com/search/label/Wonderland Quilt Along
  17. That outfit is soooooo cute! Please share the Narnia quilt when you are finished.....or in progress.😉 My long term plans include several literature based quilts and I hadn’t thought of Narnia but it’s a great idea. Hoping to make some Harry Potter quilts for Christmas.......I have patterns for LotR and Alice in Wonderland set aside. Working on my own Wizard of Oz.....in my head at this point.
  18. Pathway Readers does the back and forth for the first year, maybe first two years. https://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist?subject=Reading+%2F+Literature/6&category=Pathway Reading/925
  19. Looks good to me......it gives you plenty of choices for sizes. Your T-shirt quilt sounds wonderful! I can’t wait to see it in progress. I have never made one but have been plotting the how to in my mind as Ds has stacks of T-shirt’s!
  20. I would love to meet! Give me a few weeks to see what everyone’s life looks like after things settle down. We were out of town for Charley and returned right before Frances was upgraded and the trajectory plotted. The whole build up to the event is what drives me nuts.
  21. I would buy the square in the size you need for your planned project. That way it will be exactly the right size at least once!😉Seriously, I always want the new gadgets but rarely buy them so it is impossible to pick something that will be perfect universally. Make sure the markings are clear and easy to read and you should be good. Buy a rotary cutter that has replacement blades easily obtainable.....I have to order the ones for dd’s cutter which is a pain. Beyond that I don’t think it matters. My favorite one was an Olfa and I just replaced it with a duplicate after 25 years!
  22. @Lady Florida. Happy early birthday to Dennis! I just arrived back in the Cone of Doom a few days ago.......a bit further inland (near Orlando so things should be fine) and have been busy getting organized for the wet weekend. I am so hoping it just turns out to be wet, we were here for Frances etc too! Fortunately we already have a generator because none could be found tonight! It has been awhile since we were in Central Florida for a hurricane. Wish we had waited a week or two.........but classes started this week for the dc’s and they would now be freaking out if we had sent them ahead! I can’t remember who has read Space Opera but I had to abandon listening to it. I know people either loved it or abandoned it. I just couldn’t continue. Somehow the narration reminded me of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in terms of rhythm etc and at first I was really happy with it for five minutes but then it got irritating. I plan to start listening to Zero Sum Game https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37534869-zero-sum-game?ac=1&from_search=true next. I did finish all of the previously published Ilona Andrew’s Hidden Legacy series and am now waiting for my hold on the latest. This series was so good! I started my Fred Vargas........not sure what I think of it yet. For Fluff I have the new Tessa Dare, The Wallflower Wager https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40972652-the-wallflower-wager ready to read.
  23. I used to adore knitting and haven’t done much lately. I found a partially completed baby sweater and have been working on that in the evenings. No idea who it’s for or was for! 😀 Quilting, starting to make the quilts I have planned for this winter. One of the first up will have pumpkins because I have a good start with several strip panels of oranges already assembled from a different project. Not sure how much I will do but need to make a table cover and some mug rugs because....... Dd and I are planning to decorate a bit for Halloween and she is planning to knit some of Alan Dart’s Halloween Hamsters https://www.alandart.co.uk/product/all-patterns/halloween-hamsters/for our display. I bought my background fabric yesterday for an animal alphabet quilt that has been sort of existing in my head and needs to get put together😂. No other way to describe my design process.......I made an alligator yesterday that will lie across the top of the quilt. Not sure what letter will be next!
