  1. At this point I would call it a wash, tell them both to knock it off, and move on.
  2. If you want a great New Zealand wine, try a Central Otago Pinot Noir.
  3. Each child is a unique individual throughout his life. I never had 'a baby' or 'a teenager', I had my own special children. I never dreaded whatever age they were.
  4. :iagree: My young adults are wonderful people. They are a great delight to me.
  5. Yes, this is part of a larger work. This was not a simple family gathering but a meeting of the church. Mom and Dad watch anxiously, younger children all around, as older daughter publicly recites her catechism. A young man, obviously interested in older daughter, also looks on. Meanwhile, and older encourager in the front row gives her reminders. It is a wonderful scene. http://americancovenanter89.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/presbyterian-catechising-1847.jpg
  6. Hi, I'm MFG. I have been a lurker for a long time going back to the old boards. I read the curriculum boards for ideas and reviews and drifted over here for the fun. I thought of posting in some of the lighthearted threads many times but never did until this year. I still post rarely. My four children are all adults now. In fact my youngest graduated from college in May and got engaged last weekend. We are very happy with the people they have developed into. When our youngest started college, I got a part time job working retail and liked it well enough. Crummy pay and rotten hours but a chance to get out and earn a little so it balanced out. About a year ago, dh was given a temporary work assignment in New Zealand. We were in NZ from late June to early December 2011 and then early February to early May 2012. We plan to return soon for another 2 1/2 month period. Then home for awhile to plan and have a wedding. Not sure after that. The store where I had worked closed a couple months ago so I'll be a loose ends again once we are home for good.
  7. Yuck! I was just starting to make cookies and saw a mealworm when I opened the flour. Now I need to run out to get more.
  8. Ooo...I want a hot pink purse! And I am far from 13.
  9. Deer chewed my hostas down to the ground. Then they pooped in my driveway.
  10. I made a beginning of the summer resolution to have Mike's in the refrigerator at all times. So far, I have kept that resolution. ;)
  11. No, but I think it. (I feel so special that I have been quoted!)
  12. I usually wear shoes or slippers in my own house. I feel slightly uncomfortable being expected to remove my shoes in other houses, especially if I am not wearing socks. It feels like being asked to disrobe.
  13. Yes, that would be unfortunate. I was thinking of an landline phone that would give a busy signal when off the hook. What can I say, I'm old.
  14. And it is not necessary that there actually be someone on the other end of the line.
  15. I have a desk in the kitchen and it is usually on there. If people are coming over, I put it on the corner of my bureau in the bedroom.
  16. Did he get the special dinner that he wanted? Or was it ruined from having sat for 3 hours getting cold?
  17. Reading the thread title, it sounded like a party to celebrate a marriage's end, not its beginning. Regarding the idea of intentionally 'unintentionally' ruining a dress to get some 'great' pictures - Does everyone think they are a contestant on America's Next Top Model? I fear that in 20 years they will find this type of photos as cringeworthy as we now find our dorky wedding pictures from the 70s.
  18. I dislike the whole language of 'expectations', especially when it includes a checklist.
  19. I am SO glad that our youngest is graduating from college in May. Since 2001 we have had at least one and often two children in college each semester. Now we get to start picking up the pieces...
  20. I have found that Better Boys usually grow and bear well.
