  1. Sounds like my house. Need help with technology - especially the tablets - ASK the kids! They're 6 & 10!! They'll know. :biggrinjester: Just today, DH found a little piece of paper with an email address on it. He asked me what it was for - I had never seen it before. DD pipes up, "oh that's from (the neighbour kids) so we can chat with them on the Wii". :confused1: :confused1: I didn't know a person could chat/text on the Wii. I mean, I guess I did know, since you can play games with other people, but it never crossed my mind to actually figure out how to do it.
  2. :hurray: Sounds like an awesome day to me! Writing and poetry will still be there tomorrow, or next week, or next month. Art and Science with grandpa is much more important. Especially the "with Grandpa" part!!
  3. Oh, yeah, it definitely wouldn't be for everything, everyday. But for the questions where the actual learning is in the steps, and not getting the answer, I'd just take a couple of the questions in the book and have her do them coded first, before she works with the numbers. I think removing the numbers might actually make what she is being asked to do clearer because it won't just be "easy math". KWIM? I think I'll give it a try. Tonight, I'll look at tomorrow's work and code a couple questions and have her do them first. Then she can do it with the numbers.
  4. I am getting SO frustrated with DD in math (and she with me!). I (and the curriculum) am trying to teach her concepts, while she is trying to do math. So, I'm thinking about "rewriting" her math sheets - but REMOVING the numbers so she DOES THE WORK, not just "gets the answer". IE: Today's lesson was on writing fact families and solving for x. The crux of the lesson was less about what X actually is, and more about how she got there. She wants to shortcut it all the time. She will NOT be impressed when she gets to algebra or geotrig if she can't/won't write down her steps!!!!! My idea is to write myself a "code", using symbols (hearts, squares, diamonds, etc.) for the 10 digits and giving her the questions in code. So she can write out her steps. What say the Hive?
  5. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: FWIW, and to look at it from a little different perspective, *I* would probably feel like I was wasting...not so much the degree, but possibly the $$$ that went in to getting it, if I wasn't making that money back. KWIM? Not so much in a "I MUST get a job" sort of way, but more in a retrospective "Was it worth it? What else could I have done with that money?", kind of way. I would most likely feel guilty about it too, if my parents paid for any of it. JMO. I'm not trying to "stick up for your mom",or tell you you should feel guilty if your parents contributed at all, so please don't take it that way. This is just how *I* might feel, if I were in your shoes.
  6. And my ONE concession for getting a newer vehicle, even if it's smaller, is that I MUST sit up high, like I do in my Expedition. Of course, big and cumbersome is relative. My SUV is a lot smaller than the 1960-something grain truck that I learned to drive in, and back up (using only side mirrors) with precision, to offload the grain. And I try not to feel too guilty about the gas mileage. 'Tis the oil business that kept me fed, clothed, and a roof over my head growing up - and continues to do so for a large portion of my family. ;) A yearly "road trip" for us, though involves 2,000 miles one way, so 4,000 miles round trip. Us, our pets, and all of our luggage and various needed supplies - and we still barely fit. And I pack light!!
  7. Nope. As a matter of fact, he makes MY tea for me so it's nice and steeped when I get up...which is about 5-6 hours after him. He usually gets breakfast at the little store by his work, and takes leftovers for lunch, or eats the breakfast leftovers because he gets a HUGE, cheap breakfast. Sometimes he'll get breakfast, eat some leftovers for lunch, AND bring home even more leftovers for the kids and I. I don't even feed my kids breakfast - they feed themselves. I don't even always feed them lunch - they make sandwiches and eat fruit.
  8. No, I don't. We do about 1/2 and 1/2 or maybe a little more Christmases at home. But the years we do go out of town, we don't put up the tree at home.
  9. Is mulling over my bro's advice to "just get rid of it" and get something newer. My truck that is.... :(

  10. Oooh, I love Epicure! Too bad I don't need anything right now, or I'd order from you! I sold it when I lived in Canada.
  11. That is cute. Some people are so creative! I barely even have any belly pictures from my pregnancies. It just didn't cross my mind!
  12. Bones and How I Met Your Mother. :hurray:
  13. Did you all get it? Because when I click on the link, it's out of stock!
  14. Netflix Audible Pandora Radio Kindle **These are the ones I used on a regular basis.
  15. Wow, that's ...uh...different, I guess. I've never heard of, or seen that before. Heck, when I had DD at the ER with her broken arm, DH came and picked DS up after work and the guys went to the baseball game for the evening, because who would want to hang out at the hospital if you didn't HAVE to?
  16. Two of my shows have NEW episodes to watch! Woohoo!! I'll have to put the kids to bed early tonight. :p
  17. A little birdie told me that these Slingshot Animals might end up in the kids' stockings.
  18. We just started our first "full" year of homeschooling this fall. So, I'm still struggling to figure out how to work it all in, coupled with my laziness, lack of organization, etc. So we haven't done great so far. I'll figure it out, though. Hopefully before DD10 is ready to graduate high school. :D The biggest thing that needs to be worked on is ME. Organization, consistency, attitude, etc. Once I get that figured out, the rest will fall into place. Hence, my participation in the organization (GTD) thread.
  19. Certain people, yes. Not so much anymore, but when in NC I quickly learned with of my "friends" and neighbours were actually just looking for last-minute, free babysitting. Soon, I was always booked, busy - heading out the door to do X or go to Y, or was sick or had "sick" kids.
  20. Well, I haven't read, reserved, or looked for the books at the library, yet. BUT, I have started setting up my "Command Central" or "Household Binder" system that I've been meaning to do for the past, oh, 7 gagillion years (or so it seems). :D This way, when I do read the books and start making my "robot checklists", I'll have somewhere to put them and find them!! First though, I started sorting, shredding, recycling the paper build up from the past year that I haven't been keeping up on. It burned me out so much that I went to bed at 10:30 last night! I usually go to bed between 1 and 2 a.m. LOL I guess that is the answer if I want to force myself into a get to bed earlier routine...make myself deal with paperwork close to bedtime. I couldn't even browse the net or read a book afterward. Brain. Overload.
