  1. I have a little craftsman style bungalow that I think was built in the late 20's-early 30's. (I'd have to look it up). Anyway, it's updated with new plumbing, electrical, central heat and air, the coal chute has been sealed over, but you can see in the basement foundation where the old furnace sat. It has new insulated windows and doors, and all modern appliances. New carpet and ceramic tile in the kitchen and bath. I want to yank the carpet out and see what sort of shape the wood floors are in. If it's bad, I'll laminate. I have a large front porch that is just screaming for a swing! It still has the 6 inch baseboards, the original doors with the glass knobs, and an archway into the hallway. I hope to someday strip the interior doors and baseboards to the wood. Right now they're painted white. The closets are tiny, but I love this house.
  2. I'm 41 and I love them. My 9 year old rolls her eyes over this, however.
  3. Clowns, wide open spaces, snakes and horses. (Ok, not really about the horses). LOL
  4. OOOHHHHH. I was thinking some beautiful woman with long wavy hair lost some strands. LOL I hadn't considered it being THAT kind of hair. Ick.
  5. I have a Roper (which came with my house) and Roper is made by Whirlpool. I'm sure it's the bottom of the line Roper, too, but it works better than my friend's Bosch. I'm totally sold on Whirlpool appliances.
  6. I don't get it. Hair in food would gross me out, but hair in a book? And to throw it away? Is there a hair connection I'm missing somewhere? I mean, finding hairs would be weird, but I wouldn't toss the book over it. LOL
  7. I'm in the Mac camp. If you get Parallels, it'll run anything she'd ever need. As for the price, well, you get what you pay for with a Mac. :)
  8. There. You're disapproved, only on paper, though. ;)
  9. About every other day. Dd's hair is fine and can look stringy and icky if not washed every other day. In the summer, she bathes daily, but I let her hold off on her hair unless it's particularly dirty. I'm a bodily clean freak, so I like myself to smell good and my kids, as well.
  10. I agree with this. We're doing R&S 5 and I was going to add a writing program, but after working with this so far, I think adding one would be overkill.
  11. You definitely did the right thing. Over the summer, I noticed two people breaking in to the house across the street, which had stood empty for a year. They were using a crow-bar to pry a window open. I called 911 and as it turns out, it was the owner of the house! I felt a little silly, but honestly, why wouldn't they use a key for the door? The dispatcher said I did right by calling, because anyone using a crow-bar to enter a house that's been empty for so long is suspicious, but I sorta feel like Gladys Kravitz now. LOL
  12. I'm Michelle. I've been homeschooling since 2001, when I pulled my son out of public school to home school him during his high school years. He graduated in 2005. I home school my almost-10 year old daughter and I babysit an 18 month old toddler. I've been divorced for 7 months; separated 2 years. By God's grace and provision, I was able to purchase my little blue house where I and my kids live. My son is in college and lives at home. I have loosely followed WTM with both kids, but right now am following the frame-work a bit more than I have before. I've also used CM methods with my daughter, but with watching a toddler, I don't have the time to spend on CM methods anymore. This is my favorite home schooling board and I love the opinions and recommendations of everyone here. This is one smart group of women!
  13. There were prizes for the first 15 registered? I never saw that! hmph!
  14. baking powder. I make a paste the consistency of icing with baking soda, a drop of dish soap, water and lavender essential oil (for scent). It works great!
  15. I love this format. I hated the old one with a passion. This is the format I'm most used to with message boards. My hat is off to SWB and crew for getting this set up!
  16. You can't edit it; it's the username you registered with. However, the admin should be able to change it for you (I go to another board with similar software and the admin can easily change usernames). If the admin can't for whatever reason, you'll have to reregister with the corrected name.
  17. My chiro is like this. He'll do a screening/exam, create a plan and then he presents the fees. However, he will adjust (no pun!) his fees if someone doesn't have insurance or is low income. It's almost like his fees are "pay what you can." Many of his patients barter services. Some do lawn care at the office or at his home, some clean, some set up and take down for workshops, I do clerical work. So, on one hand, he can't really present a set fee, because he doesn't want money to get in the way of someone being treated, but again, he does need to make money to support his family. I do think the OP's chiro was being manipulative and I'd not go back to him. Honesty works better for me.
  18. I can't imagine how stressful this is on you and your family. ((((HUGS))))
  19. I've started several blogs, but I really don't have much to say, so they die out.
