No, but I really don't think that the college board folks expect homeschooling parents to go to the PS to ask for accomodations for a child who has never stepped foot in their school. They would have to test the child (Which would be unnecessary if the parents already had had their child tested privately) to determine the LD. How could the PS write a list of accomodations for a child who is not even in their school, and will never be in their school? Would the accomodations be for the PARENTS to make at home? This makes no sense. Please enlighten me.

Dr. Hive -- teen is tired all the time

I have never in my life had any store employee offer to bring my groceries to the car. That seems so weird to me! And to hear that some stores insist? That would bother me a lot. It is nice they offer in some stores, but I wouldn't like it if they had a policy that you had to let them bring your stuff to the car. Our stores have baggers, but sometimes there aren't enough and you have to bag your own groceries.

Need help with picking a consequence!
MegP replied to sweetsouthern's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I wouldn't give her a consequence, but I would work with her to improve in this area. Also, I would be a bit concerned that her forgetfulness might also mean she may have a lack of awareness of her surroundings, and that would be another area to work on. I would want to make sure she was alert and able to be aware of weird behavior by a potential predator. -
Weird Neighbors Out In Force
MegP replied to AlmiraGulch's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Lock your doors! But before you do, hope that the mom or dad will come into your house uninvited just one more time while you are upstairs. If they do, call 911 and tell them that you are upstairs and hear voices and that someone is in your house downstairs, that you don't know who it is, and that you are afraid. They will send the police to your house. I bet that will be the last time the parents enter your house without you letting them in! -
If you move, you should be aware that some states expect you to get all your homeschooling paperwork in before you even move to that state. Otherwise your child is considered truant if she is not in public or private school and you are not yet officially homeschooling in that state. I believe every state allows you to start homeschooling any time, but some states have deadlines. Like if your paperwork is not in by the time school starts in your state, your child is considered truant by the powers that be. Most states don't require that you tell them your child's grade. You can choose what grade she is in. They usually just want to know the child's age.

Sick to death of dicing onions
MegP replied to stephanier.1765's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I buy them frozen. I can't cut onions without tears running down my face...so I don't cut them anymore! -
How about telling him, you can either play with A or B. And then enforcing his choice.
-
What if you told him he needed to sit down and play with the train set until you told him he could do something else? He could choose to play, or choose to just sit there and do nothing, but he couldn't do anything else.

Great homeschooling story!

LOl at "what did you do to socialize them?" as if you sprayed them with some sort of Socialization Spray. "Oh, look dear, I have sprayed the children, now they are socialized! We will need to reapply this spray in one year." It is just funny that "they" think we need to Do Something to our children to get them to the point where they can have manners, have a conversation, be kind, etc. I guess we do-it's called parenting. Don't those who send their DC to PS parent? LOL LOL! -
Does he not work during the day?

I would turn it off. You live there, too.

Training for Triumph's Writing Quick Kit

Wonder why it is still advertised on their website? I would love to buy this! -
My son needs speech therapy, but we cannot afford it. The PS won't help us because we homeschool, and the University charges $90 per hour (and that is with a student!) They have a huge waiting list, also. Homeschoolers are not private schoolers here in my state, so the school has no legal obligation to help homeschoolers. It seems so unfair that homeschooled children cannot get the services they need without their parents going broke.

It is not just about spanking-it is about tomato staking, too. She does let people on the board if you know someone who is a current active member.
-
Have you heard of Raising Godly Tomatoes? They have a free book you can read on the site and a message board, too!

If Vision Therapy is not an option?

You may be able to do VT at home. I know a friend who brought her DD to a VT doctor, who taught her to do the exercises at home. She just brought her DD to the doctor every 3 mos or so to have the doctor see how she was doing and get new exercises from him. It was totally successful. This particular doctor never does the VT in his office, but just teaches the parents to do it at home. It is just as effective as doing it in office and costs nothing! -
s/o reporting for educational neglect
MegP replied to Night Elf's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Reporting to CPS is radically different than reporting to the Department of Ed or your local district. To whom you report depends on the state you live in. -

In some states, however, a homeschooled child being significantly behind is violating state law. -

I totally agree. The homeschooling laws where I live keep getting stricter because some homeschoolers have no expectations or goals for their children, and don't care that their 12 year olds are not reading and have never heard of multiplying and dividing. The state is cracking down and revoking these parents' rights to homeschool. It is unfair to the rest of us who are working HARD to teach our kids because the laws are getting so strict.
