  1. Bull Run Regional Park, located conveniently near Interstate 66, is a getaway that's not far from Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia attractions. Bull Run is only 27 miles from Washington, D.C., and 15 miles from the Vienna Metro Station. You'll take the Metro from Vienna to downtown DC...I think we're going to get off at the Smithsonian station. There are 2 stations close to the mall. And then the trolley picks you up basically near there. http://wmata.com/ This lets you plan your trip and see the stations. Vienna-Smithsonian is a half hour trip, $3 per person, one way :tongue_smilie: I've also read that you want to go after rush hour in the morning, and after rush hour in the evening, b/c the trains are crowded...we have young kids and that freaks me out, so that's what we're doing, LOL. The trolley stops running at 5:30, and we aren't leaving the city until 7 or 8, so I think we're going to save the Smithsonians for the end, so the trolley can take us there, and then we can home on the train without much walking.
  2. Old Town Trolley Tours There are a couple of other trolley tours and this one had the best reviews on trip advisor, and the other companies had terrible reviews. And with this one, you get the second day free. We're staying at Bull Run Cabins - small, but it has ac and electricity, and the whole campfire stuff. The metro is 15 min away.
  3. oh reading this has me so excited. We're going at the beginning of May and we're hitting Gettysburg, DC, Chincoteague, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Richmond. We got a cabin in Manassas, VA and will get to visit the battlesite, so that will be fun. We're spending 2 days in DC and my list is so long. We bought a pass from a trolley service so they can drop us off at all the monuments/museums so we don't have to walk all over.
  4. I asked this in my email, but is the website a wordpress.org type of set up? Is it going to be easy to format and add stuff? And I've heard yahoo isn't the best at hosting either...there are some other sites out there that are good hosts for only 6 or 7 bucks a month, if yahoo ends up not working out. I'm sooooo excited about this :D:D:D:D
  5. that's a real mug???? that's awesome. Too bad I don't have any curriculum money until this summer. :glare: But I'm so going to get that mug when I do!
  6. Love this....I know there are a lot of writers on here. I was actually going to start writing a couple of things about educating this week (unrelated to this) so I'll give a crack at writing something.
  7. I don't know. I would think so. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have just cut that out when they were making the movie? I think they're hoping to make more money since they won the Oscars.
  8. This one is a christian one, a hot topic that's been floating around for a few weeks: Donald Miller reviews Love Wins his blog keeps crashing, but if you can get it to work, it's great!
  9. The Text Message: The Bible in Post-Contemporary Language by UGn Ptrsn
  10. oh I just saw your thing about silly activities, lol. Most of the sidebar in this one is decent questions, and only occasionally activities.
  11. I just got The One Year Mother Daughter Devo by Dannah Gresh. We haven't started doing it yet :tongue_smilie: but it looks good, and NORMAL!!! LOL. Here are a couple of examples: There were a couple of days talking about King Saul. In the sidebar it has 'Girl Gab' where Mom and Dd talk....one day: Daughter, are you obedient? Answer that question and tell your mom what's in your heart when - and if - you disobey. Mom, affirm your daughter in the areas where she is obedient. The next day, still about Saul. Mom, tell your daughter about a time in your life when you were worried about what God was doing but now you see what his purpose was. One day is making lemonade together and talking about bad things that God can use for good. Another day is talking about being clay, so you get some clay and sculpt animals together and talk about why it's your favorite. So this one seems really fun and not super heavy spiritually while helping to talk about topics in a normal way. And each day has a devotional to go along with the verses/sidebar activity.
  12. hahaha, that's awesome. We have a triple bunk bed for our boys, so dd went in and changed all their bedding around and moved them all to different levels...ds is ticked about being moved to the bottom, lol. They want to get her back, so the 5 yo is giving her doughnut seeds (cheerios) and I think the 8 yo is going to do something with stinky socks, LOL.
  13. We're not very far into latin yet, so maybe my opinion will change down the road, but for now we do both. We're using Caesar's English, and dd is learning tons of words that she didn't know before, and wasn't absorbing from reading books. It's nice to see the overlap of words from CE to the MCT grammar lessons, and there's been light overlap into Latin, but that just seems to reinforce the words she's already learned.
  14. LOL....i don't know how to fix that but I follow in rss readers. I have one on firefox and google
  15. I really want to do a wordpress.org blog, but don't want to pay the hosting fee, so idk what to do. I've used blogger before and was pretty happy with it, but I hate having .blogspot in the address....and I like the idea of being able to customize so much with wordpress.org. It just depends on what you want to do. I found blogger waaay easier than wordpress.com.
  16. there's also a mouthwash made from/with xylitol that I use. I don't know that I've seen any difference cavity wise, but I haven't been using it that long. I'm also using a gumwash and that has been awesome; my gums have stopped bleeding since I started using it and they look so much healthier. Hoping the xylitol ends up being just as great.
  17. oooh the book is free on Google books! Now I really don't have an excuse not to keep up!
  18. I would love something in the Chicago area!!!!! I'm in SW MI and know of no other classical homeschoolets, boo. But Chicagoland is easily driveable.
